If your devotional stream is encoded at home, the practical way to keep it sending video during a broadband outage is to give the encoder a second internet route—typically cellular data through a SIM-capable router with WAN failover. That helps only if mobile service can sustain the stream at your location and the local equipment still has power. For a prerecorded video or playlist, a cloud service can send the stream without relying on your home internet; it cannot replace a live camera or microphone feed that exists only at home.
First identify what has failed
An ISP outage, a power cut, a wider mobile-network outage and a YouTube-side interruption are different problems. A cellular backup can help when the fixed broadband route fails but a nearby mobile network remains available. It cannot restore a failed cell network, keep unpowered equipment running, or guarantee that YouTube playback will remain uninterrupted.

- Broadband failure only: use a genuinely separate internet route, such as cellular WAN. A second wired service is useful only if it does not share the same vulnerable last-mile route.
- Power failure: keep every required local device powered, including the modem or ONT, router and encoder. A UPS or inverter addresses power, not an ISP outage.
- Mobile service or platform failure: neither local cellular failover nor a powered router guarantees continuity. Test and plan for recovery rather than assuming the player will never break.
Choose the backup around the stream’s source
Live camera, microphone or locally produced mix
Keep the encoder at the source and provide it with a second WAN route. A SIM-capable 4G router can switch from wired broadband to cellular data, but the SIM network must be reachable and have enough sustained upload at the exact installation location. There is no universally best Indian carrier for every address; measure service at the place and time the stream will run.
As one hardware example, TP-Link India lists its Omada ER706W-4G with a gigabit WAN port, two Nano SIM slots for 4G/LTE failover and load balancing between 4G and Ethernet WAN. D-Link India’s G403C page also lists SIM-based LTE and WAN failover. These specifications describe product capabilities, not local coverage, performance or current stock. Before buying, confirm supported LTE bands, carrier or SIM provisioning requirements, the precise failover mode, warranty and return terms. TP-Link India: ER706W-4G; D-Link India: G403C.

Prerecorded devotional video or playlist
A cloud encoder can be a better fit when the video and audio are prerecorded and available to that service. The cloud can send the stream without depending on your home upload connection. It does not solve a live feed that originates only at your home unless that feed can reach the cloud by another route. Check any service’s current YouTube workflow, continuous-run behavior, rights requirements, cost and recovery controls before relying on it.
Enterprise or multi-site operation
Airtel Business describes SD-WAN Lite with two WAN ports and two SIM slots for wired and 4G/5G connectivity, aimed at enterprises and remote branches. That is a business-service example, not a default recommendation for an individual channel. Airtel Business SD-WAN.
Size the cellular link for sustained upload
Choose an encoder setting the backup connection can sustain with room for variation—not one based on an advertised download rate. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing before going live. Its H.264 recommendations include the following values:

| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are encoder recommendations, not a promise that a cellular plan or a particular location will support them continuously. Mobile throughput can vary; test the actual SIM, router placement and encoder together. If the link cannot reliably sustain your chosen setting, lower resolution, frame rate or bitrate and test again. A mostly static devotional visual may not need the same resolution or frame rate as fast-moving video, but do not assume a particular bitrate without testing.
YouTube’s encoder guidance includes RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Configure these in the encoder you use, then verify the live preview and stream health. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Set up and test failover before relying on it
- Check the site: confirm the router supports the intended SIM and carrier, place it where cellular reception is usable, and measure sustained upload there. Test at the hours your channel normally streams.
- Connect and configure the WANs: connect fixed broadband to the router’s primary WAN and configure its supported cellular failover mode. Follow the router’s current instructions for SIM activation, APN settings if required, and failover detection; labels and steps vary by model and carrier.
- Check the encoder: use the YouTube stream key for the intended channel and configure an upload setting that the backup link can sustain. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to that stream.
- Test the primary-link failure: with a test broadcast or planned maintenance window, stop the primary encoder or unplug its Ethernet cable, as YouTube advises for testing encoder failover. Confirm the router moves to cellular, then check whether the encoder reconnects and what viewers see in the YouTube player.
- Test return to broadband: restore the primary link and observe whether the router switches back cleanly. Check for encoder disconnection, duplicate sessions or a player interruption rather than assuming recovery is seamless.
- Inspect the whole broadcast: check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, audio and video, watch page and mobile playback. If you use a local archive, confirm it is growing. Decide who will respond to an alert during an unattended run.
YouTube specifically recommends testing encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then checking that the player rolls over to the backup encoder. That guidance is about encoder failover; a router’s WAN switch, encoder reconnection and viewer playback are separate links in the chain. YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips.

Keep power and internet continuity separate
For a local encoder to continue through a power cut, the modem or ONT, failover router, encoder and any essential network gear all need power. A UPS or inverter may help, but size it against the equipment’s actual draw and the runtime you need; a battery does not restore a failed broadband route. Conversely, cellular failover does not help if the router or encoder loses power.

The National Informatics Centre lists dedicated bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream for its webcast service, but states that the service is for Central and State Government institutions only. That figure is not a general YouTube requirement for an individual devotional channel. Use YouTube’s encoder guidance and a site-specific upload test for your own setup. Common outage problems and fixes
- The router changes WAN, but the stream still stops: WAN failover does not guarantee the encoder will reconnect or that the player will continue seamlessly. Test the full chain and confirm the encoder’s reconnect behavior.
- The cellular connection is online, but the stream buffers or drops: the available upload may be below the encoder’s sustained bitrate or may vary. Test at the installation site, reduce output settings and repeat the drill.
- The stream goes offline during a power cut: check whether the ONT/modem, router, encoder and other essential devices all remain powered. A backup battery on only one device may not keep the chain alive.
- Failover never starts: verify the SIM is provisioned, the router recognizes it, the mobile network is reachable and the WAN health-check settings detect the broadband failure. Consult the router’s model-specific instructions.
- The backup works but return to broadband disrupts playback: test restoration as well as failure. Observe router switching, encoder reconnection and the player; adjust supported failback behavior if the router allows it.
- The stream key does not work or the wrong broadcast appears: check that the encoder uses the key for the intended YouTube channel and that the key has not been exposed. Reset it in YouTube’s live-stream setup if necessary, then update the encoder.
Protect the devotional content and channel
A 24/7 schedule does not grant rights to music, recordings, artwork or video in a devotional program. Use material you own, have permission to stream, or that is otherwise licensed for the intended use, and keep records of permissions. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream requirements before starting; automated claims or restrictions can interrupt a broadcast. A loop should also provide genuine value rather than simply rebroadcasting material without rights or meaningful context.
