Google documents a QR-code joining flow on supported Android devices and a separate broadcast-discovery menu for Samsung LE Audio accessories. The official sources covered here do not establish an iPhone joining procedure or supported iPhone models, so do not assume an iPhone can join just because it supports Bluetooth.
How Auracast joining works
Auracast is Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast audio: a transmitter advertises a broadcast’s name and configuration, then sends one or more audio streams. To listen, a receiver must tune in. An Auracast assistant scans for broadcasts and helps you choose one, then supplies the receiver with the information it needs to join. The assistant may be part of a phone’s operating system or an app; some receivers can scan and select broadcasts themselves, so a phone is not required in every setup. Bluetooth SIG likens choosing a broadcast to selecting a Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth SIG’s Auracast overview explains the roles.

Check that your phone and headphones are compatible
Having Bluetooth, or even a Bluetooth version number of 5.2 or later, does not by itself confirm Auracast reception. Bluetooth SIG says products need specified features introduced in Bluetooth Core Specification 5.2 and the Public Broadcast Profile within LE Audio. Whether an existing product can gain support through an update depends on its underlying capabilities and the manufacturer’s product plans. Check the exact phone and receiver model specifications for Auracast receiving support, rather than relying on generic Bluetooth or LE Audio wording. Bluetooth SIG’s FAQ describes the requirements and upgrade caveat.
The receiver can be compatible LE Audio headphones, earbuds, hearing aids, or another listening device. Bluetooth SIG’s Find an Auracast Product directory lists products and roles, but it is informational and availability can change. Confirm the exact model with its manufacturer and check regional availability.

Join a broadcast on Android
Use the QR-code flow documented by Google
Google’s Android and Pixel help pages describe joining by scanning a QR code displayed by the device sharing audio. The Android phone must support LE Audio, and LE Audio headphones must be connected. The documented steps are:
- Connect the Android phone to LE Audio headphones.
- Open the Camera app and scan the QR code shown by the device sharing its audio.
- When the Playlist button appears, tap it.
- Tap Listen to join the broadcast.
Google documents these steps for supported Android devices in Android Help and gives the corresponding guidance for Pixel in Pixel Help. This is a documented route, not a guarantee that every Android phone has the same menus or supports the feature. On Pixel, audio-sharing settings are also described under Connected devices → Connection preferences → Audio sharing, or through Quick Settings; labels and availability can vary by model and software version.

What iPhone owners can confirm
The official sources cited here do not establish which iPhone models or iOS releases can scan for and join Auracast broadcasts, nor do they provide an iPhone menu path. Bluetooth SIG says an assistant can be implemented in an operating system or a third-party app, but that general description does not confirm support on a particular iPhone. Look for current Apple or accessory-manufacturer documentation for the exact iPhone, software release, and receiver combination; do not apply the Android instructions to iPhone by assumption.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where broadcasts may be available
Potential public uses include hearing audio from otherwise silent televisions in places such as airports, gyms, and waiting rooms, or listening to tour audio at museums and attractions. These are examples, not confirmation that a particular venue has deployed a transmitter. A venue must provide a broadcast for listeners to join. Bluetooth SIG recommends Standard Quality Public Broadcast Audio for public transmissions to broaden receiver compatibility. See its guidance for Auracast in public locations.
