To join an Abiotic Factor server, get the host’s exact server name and search for it in the in-game server browser. On PC, you can also use Direct Connect with the server’s current IP address and game port. A password-protected server requires its join password. Players on different platforms must also confirm that crossplay is enabled and that the server permits those platforms.
The menu labels vary between game builds and guides. Look for the function named Enter The Facility, Join A Server or Join Game, then open the server-browser screen.

What you need before trying to join
Ask the person running the server for the details that match your route. Request the exact server name, including spaces, punctuation and capitalization if the host says those matter. If you are playing on PC and the host can provide an address, also request the server’s current IP address and game port. Do not substitute a familiar sample port: hosted servers can be assigned different ports.

A quick route by platform
Use the route that matches both your platform and the information the host gave you. A PC player with only a server name should start in the browser. A PC player with a current IP address and port has a second option if the listing is delayed. Console players should generally begin with the in-game browser described by the current provider guidance.
- PC and server name: open the multiplayer area, search the exact name, select the matching listing and enter the player password if prompted.
- PC and IP plus port: open the equivalent Direct Connect screen, enter both values exactly, then provide the join password.
- Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5: use the server browser available in your build and confirm that the server accepts console players.
- Mixed PC, Xbox and PlayStation group: verify crossplay on the server and on each client before troubleshooting the listing.
These are access routes rather than different kinds of worlds. The browser identifies a listing by name, while Direct Connect identifies a PC endpoint by address and port.
Join through the server browser
The browser is the normal route when you know the server’s name and the listing is visible.
- Launch Abiotic Factor and open the multiplayer option from the main menu. Depending on your build, this may be labeled Enter The Facility, Join A Server or Join Game.
- Choose the server-browser function rather than creating a new world.
- Use the search field and enter the exact server name supplied by the host. If the full name is difficult to type, search a distinctive part of it that is unlikely to match many other listings.
- Review the results and select the listing that matches the host’s name. Check carefully for similarly named servers before connecting.
- Choose the command to join. Enter the server’s current join password if the game prompts for one.
- Wait for the connection and world to load. If the listing is absent, follow the troubleshooting order below instead of repeatedly searching at random.
Why an exact name matters
Server browsers can contain several worlds with similar names. The host’s exact spelling is the quickest way to avoid joining the wrong one. A distinctive fragment is useful when the search box is case-sensitive or when punctuation is hard to reproduce, but verify the selected listing with the host before entering a password or loading into the world.
Confirm the listing before joining
Do not assume that the first result is your friend’s world. Compare the displayed name with the message from the host and, if several results remain, ask the host to identify a unique part of the name. This prevents a failed password attempt on an unrelated server and avoids wasting time loading the wrong listing.
Use Direct Connect on PC
Direct Connect is an alternative for PC players who have the server address. It is particularly useful when a server has restarted and its browser listing has not appeared yet.
- Open the multiplayer area from the main menu using the equivalent of Join A Server, Join Game or Enter The Facility.
- Select Direct Connect (or the equivalent address-entry command) rather than browsing the public list.
- Enter the IP address provided by the host or server panel.
- Enter the game port paired with that address. Keep the address and port exactly as supplied; do not assume a default value.
- Submit the connection details and enter the current player password if prompted.
- If the connection fails, confirm the server is running and re-check both fields with the host before changing unrelated settings.
The IP and port belong together. An accurate IP with the wrong port still reaches the wrong endpoint, so ask the operator to copy both values from the current server panel rather than relying on an old message.

Use it when the host has just restarted the server, when the browser is not advertising the listing yet, or when the host specifically supplied a current address and port. Direct Connect is not a substitute for a missing password or a stopped server: the endpoint still has to be online and configured for your platform.

Console and cross-platform joining
Provider documentation describes crossplay among PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, but platform behavior can change with game updates, server settings and the edition you are running. Treat crossplay as a compatibility check, not an automatic guarantee.
Console route
Current provider guidance describes console players using the in-game server browser instead of PC-style Direct Connect. Open the multiplayer menu on the console, choose the browser function, and search the host’s exact server name. If your version offers a different address-entry option, follow the labels shown in that build and confirm with the host that the server accepts console clients.
Mixed PC, Xbox and PlayStation groups
- Have the host confirm that the server is configured for cross-platform play and is not limited to a single platform.
- Check the crossplay setting on each player’s own game client. A local setting can prevent a compatible server from appearing.
- Use the browser and the exact server name first, since Direct Connect availability is not established for every console route.
- Make sure every player and the server are on compatible game versions. A platform can be supported in principle while a version mismatch still blocks entry.
If one platform can see the listing and another cannot, compare the missing player’s crossplay setting and the server’s platform restriction before assuming that the server is offline.

Both routes reach the same kind of hosted world, but they require different information and fail in different ways.

For a PC player who has both sets of details, try the browser first and keep Direct Connect as the fallback. For console or mixed-platform groups, confirm the available route in your current game build and server setup before promising that address entry will work.
Keep the host’s message unambiguous
Many failed joins begin with an incomplete or stale message. Ask the operator to label each value clearly: server name, PC IP, game port, player join password, crossplay status and any platform restriction. If the server was recently restarted, ask whether the address or port changed and whether the browser listing is expected to be delayed.
Do not combine credentials in one unlabeled line. In particular, “admin password” and “join password” describe different purposes. Copy the player password exactly as sent, and ask for a new value if the host has changed it since the last session.
Troubleshoot a missing or failed connection
Work through these checks in order. Each one rules out a common cause without changing settings that are unrelated to joining.

1. Confirm that the server is running
Ask the host to verify the server status in its control panel or hosting interface. A stopped server cannot appear reliably and will reject a correct address. If the operator has just restarted it, allow time for the world to finish starting before searching again.
2. Search the exact name again
Copy the name from the host rather than relying on memory. Remove accidental leading or trailing spaces, and try a distinctive fragment if the complete name produces no result. Check that you are looking at the intended region or filter, if your build presents such controls.
3. Allow for browser advertising delay
A provider guide notes that browser advertising can lag after a restart. If the server is confirmed online but absent from the list, wait briefly and refresh the browser. On PC, use Direct Connect with the freshly confirmed IP and port instead of waiting indefinitely for the listing.

When a cross-platform player cannot see the server, check that player’s own crossplay option first. Then ask the host whether the server is restricted to a single platform. Community-maintained launch-parameter documentation lists options that can limit platforms, but those parameters are configuration references rather than a guarantee that every version exposes the same behavior.
5. Reconfirm the join password
Password failures usually mean the value has changed, was copied incorrectly, or belongs to a different credential. Ask the host to send the current player password again. Do not enter the administrative password unless the operator explicitly confirms that the server is configured to use the same value for joining.
6. Verify the IP and game port on PC
If Direct Connect finds the server but cannot establish a session, compare both fields with the host’s current panel. A server restart or hosting change can alter the assigned port. There is no single universal port that should be substituted for the value supplied by the operator.
7. Match client and server versions
Check that every player has updated to a version compatible with the server. If one person can join while another cannot, compare their game versions and platform settings with the successful player rather than changing network settings first.

- The current IP address and game port for PC players.
- The player join password, clearly labeled as such.
- Whether crossplay is enabled.
- Any platform restriction that would exclude PC, Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5.
- A note if the server has just restarted and the browser listing may be delayed.
This information lets a PC player choose between browser search and Direct Connect, while console players can follow the browser route appropriate to their build.

Joining a friend’s world does not require buying extra hardware or a peripheral. The required inputs are the game client, a server name or PC address and port, and sometimes a password. If you later decide to run a persistent dedicated server, treat hosting as a separate project: confirm that the service supports your intended PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 combination, then share the resulting name, address, port and join password with players. Hosting is optional for joining an existing world.

When to stop changing settings
If the server is running, the name or address is correct, the password is current, crossplay and platform restrictions are compatible, and versions match, further client-side changes are unlikely to solve the problem. At that point, ask the host to check the server log or hosting panel and confirm that the port is open for the game service. Keep a record of the exact error message and which platform produced it; that narrows the issue without guessing at unrelated network settings.
Source and version caveats
The detailed join procedures currently circulating were updated by hosting providers in September 2026, including guides dated September 17 and September 22. Their menu names and platform notes describe the versions and server setups they documented, not a permanent promise about every future build. Launch-parameter information is maintained by the community and is useful for identifying possible platform restrictions, but it should be checked against the options available in your own server version.
Because menu wording and crossplay behavior can change, use the function rather than the exact label: open multiplayer, reach the server browser, search by name, or enter the supplied address and port on PC. If an update changes those labels, the underlying join requirements remain the same: a running compatible server, the correct identifying details and, when enabled, the current player password.

Why can my friend see the server but I cannot?
Compare your crossplay setting, platform and game version with the player who joined successfully. The server may also be restricted to one platform, or your client may be searching before a restarted server is advertised again.
Is the admin password the same as the password for joining?
Not necessarily. The admin password is an operator credential, while the join password is the value players enter when connecting. Ask the host to identify the current player password explicitly.
Can Xbox and PlayStation players use Direct Connect?
Current provider guidance describes console players using the in-game server browser rather than the PC Direct Connect route. Check the labels and connection options in your own build, and confirm that the server accepts your platform.
What should I do if the server is missing after a restart?

Is there one universal Abiotic Factor server port?
