To connect a phone, computer, tablet, or console to an already configured Verizon Fios router, open the device’s Wi-Fi settings, select the network name (SSID) shown on the router’s label, and enter its Wi-Fi password. If the owner changed either credential, use the current one instead of the label’s default.
Connect a device to an existing Fios Wi-Fi network
- Turn on Wi-Fi in the device’s wireless or network settings.
- Find the network name printed on the rear of the Verizon router. If it has been changed, select the current network name.
- Enter the current Wi-Fi password, also called the WPA key. The default is printed on the router label; Verizon says you can also find the credentials in My Verizon. Verizon Router FAQs
- Tap or click Join, Connect, or the equivalent prompt. Menu wording varies by device.
On iPhone or iPad, the usual path is Settings > Wi-Fi. On Android, open Settings > Wi-Fi or the device’s equivalent network menu. On a Mac or PC, choose the network from the Wi-Fi menu, then enter the password. For a game console, open its Network or Connection settings, choose Wi-Fi, and enter the credentials. Verizon’s device connection guide covers these general steps.

If you are setting up a new Verizon Router
Installing and activating a router is separate from joining its Wi-Fi network. For the Verizon Router and Gateway setup documented by Verizon, connect the router’s WAN port to the Internet Gateway with Ethernet, then connect power. Wait for a solid white light before continuing; startup can take up to five minutes, and Verizon says the light may fluctuate red and white during this time. Do not unplug it while it starts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThen connect a device using the Wi-Fi name and password printed on the back of the Gateway, or scan its QR code, and follow the activation prompts. Verizon lists mynetworksettings.com and https://192.168.1.1 as router settings addresses. These directions apply to the documented setup flow; check your model’s instructions if its ports or lights differ. The setup article was updated October 6, 2026.

Other ways to connect
WPS
For a compatible device, WPS can connect without typing the password. It is not available when WPA3 is enabled, SSID broadcast is disabled, or MAC address authentication is enabled with an empty allowlist. If WPS does not work, use the network-name-and-password method instead. Verizon Router FAQs
Ethernet
If the device has an Ethernet port, a cable can provide a direct wired connection instead of Wi-Fi. Verizon specifically recommends a direct connection to a router LAN port for the fastest game-console connection. Ethernet is optional; it is not needed to join Wi-Fi. Fix common connection problems
The password is rejected
- Re-enter it carefully, checking capitalization and similar-looking characters. Use the device’s show-password option if available.
- If the password was changed, the router label still shows only the default. Check My Verizon or the router settings for the current credential.
- Verizon recommends a strong, unique Wi-Fi password. Avoid changing router settings or resetting the router just to test a password.
Check whether the issue is the device or the network
Try another device on the same Wi-Fi, then try the affected device on another Wi-Fi network. If multiple devices cannot connect to the Fios network, suspect the router or network; if one device has trouble on multiple networks, the problem is more likely with that device. Verizon describes this isolation approach in its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.

Verizon’s general troubleshooting advice is to unplug the router and modem for about 60 seconds, reconnect them, and allow the equipment time to come back online. If the device has a stale saved connection, forget or remove that Wi-Fi network on the device and add it again. Resetting the device’s network settings is a later option; Verizon says it refreshes network settings without removing personal information. Verizon Wi-Fi troubleshooting

The network is missing or a device cannot join
A disabled router Wi-Fi radio prevents wireless devices from joining. Check the model-specific router guide or Verizon support page before changing wireless settings. On the router covered by Verizon’s current FAQ, enabling Wi-Fi 6E changes the primary network to WPA3 and may disconnect devices that support only WPA2; Verizon identifies its WPA2 IoT network as a possible option for those devices. A factory reset should not be an early troubleshooting step: it restores defaults and deletes customized network settings. Use it only if you intend to set up the router again and have the needed configuration information. Verizon Router FAQs
Quick Recap
