On PS4, open Minecraft, sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your console, select Play, and open the Servers tab. Featured servers can be joined directly from that list. You also need an active PlayStation Plus subscription for console online multiplayer.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Minecraft Bedrock servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Joining a privately operated Bedrock server is different: many PS4 builds do not show the usual Add Server form. In that case, the BedrockConnect project documents a DNS-based workaround that adds a server-list screen before connecting you to the destination.

What you need before connecting
Prepare these items before troubleshooting menus or network settings:
- Minecraft Bedrock Edition for PS4: Install the game and update it to the current version available for your console.
- A Microsoft account: Sign in to the account linked to Minecraft. Console multiplayer uses this account even though you launch the game through PlayStation Network.
- PlayStation Plus: An active subscription is required for online console multiplayer.
- For a custom server: Obtain the server’s Bedrock address and port from its owner or administrator. A hostname alone may not be enough if the owner uses a non-default port.
- Bedrock compatibility: The destination must accept Bedrock players. A Java-only server will not accept the PS4 client unless its owner has configured a Bedrock-compatible endpoint or an explicit cross-play bridge.
Have the address and port available in plain text. Check punctuation carefully: a single missing character, an extra space, or a Java address copied from the wrong instructions can produce a connection failure that looks like a console problem.

Join a featured server directly on PS4
Featured servers are the supported, built-in route. Minecraft’s official guidance is straightforward: open Minecraft, choose Play, and use the Servers tab to see the featured list.
- Start Minecraft on the PS4 and wait for the main menu.
- Sign in when prompted, using the Microsoft account associated with your console profile.
- Select Play.
- Move to the Servers tab. The available featured services appear in the list.
- Highlight the server you want and choose Join Server.
- Read the online-play warning. Select Proceed to continue.
- If the server requests a resource pack, allow it to download and install. The world will load after the pack and connection handshake complete.
The first connection can take longer than later visits because the game may download a pack and cache server data. Do not close Minecraft while that process is running unless it has clearly stopped responding.
What “featured” means
A featured server is presented in Minecraft’s own Servers tab rather than entered manually by a player. Its listing, address, and connection method are supplied through the game service. You do not type a port for this route, and you do not need a DNS redirect.
If the server list is empty
An empty or unavailable list usually indicates an account, subscription, network, or service issue rather than a missing custom-server field. Confirm that you are signed in, that PlayStation Plus is active, and that the PS4 can complete an internet connection test before changing DNS settings.
Why the Add Server button is missing
Bedrock documentation for other platforms describes an Add Server workflow: enter a server name, address, and port, save it, and connect. Console editions can expose a different interface. On PS4, the Servers tab may show only featured entries and no field for arbitrary addresses. That is a platform interface limitation, not proof that the destination is offline.
There are three practical consequences:
- You cannot assume that instructions written for Windows, Android, iOS, or another console will match the PS4 menus.
- Repeatedly searching the featured list will not reveal a private server that was never published as a featured entry.
- For an independently operated server, you need either a documented console workaround or an invitation through a supported in-game route such as a friend’s session or a Realm.
The workaround below is documented by BedrockConnect for console editions where a third-party server list is not natively available. It does not add a permanent native button to Minecraft; it redirects a featured-server connection to BedrockConnect’s server-list interface.
Connect to a custom Bedrock server with the PS4 DNS workaround
BedrockConnect documents these DNS values for its PS4 method: primary DNS 45.55.68.52 and secondary DNS 8.8.8.8. The method works by resolving selected featured-server domains to a BedrockConnect screen where you enter the actual destination address and port.

1. Change the PS4 connection to Custom
- From the PS4 home screen, open Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Choose the connection you use, either Use Wi-Fi or Use a LAN Cable.
- Select Custom instead of Easy.
- Leave IP Address Settings on Automatic.
- At DHCP Host Name, choose Do Not Specify.
- Set DNS Settings to Manual.
- Enter 45.55.68.52 for Primary DNS.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for Secondary DNS.
- Keep MTU Settings on Automatic.
- Choose Do Not Use when asked about a proxy server.
- Run Test Internet Connection and wait for the test to finish.
The test confirms whether the PS4 can reach the network with the entered settings; it does not confirm that a particular Minecraft server accepts your account or game version.
2. Open a redirect-compatible featured entry
- Launch Minecraft after the network test completes.
- Choose Play, then open Servers.
- Select a featured entry that BedrockConnect currently supports. Its documentation has listed examples such as Mineville, Lifeboat, Enchanted, Galaxite, and The Hive.
- Wait for the connection to open the BedrockConnect server-list screen instead of the normal featured world.
The list of compatible entries can change. If one entry sends you to its ordinary world or fails to connect, try another entry that the current BedrockConnect documentation identifies as compatible.
3. Enter the destination details
- On the BedrockConnect screen, select the option to add or connect to a server.
- Enter a label you will recognize, the target server’s Bedrock address, and its port.
- Check the address and port against the server owner’s current instructions.
- Submit the entry and choose it from the resulting list to connect.
This process does not convert a Java server into a Bedrock server. The destination still needs to run Bedrock or provide a bridge that accepts Bedrock network traffic.

The custom DNS configuration remains active until you change it. To return to your normal network setup, repeat Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection, select the connection, choose Custom, and set DNS back to Automatic while leaving the other settings appropriate for your network. Run the connection test again. Restoring DNS is useful if ordinary browsing, another game, or a future Minecraft update behaves unexpectedly with the redirect in place.
Featured joining versus the custom-server workaround
| Consideration | Featured server | Custom server through BedrockConnect |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Open Minecraft, choose Play > Servers, select an entry, and proceed. | Change PS4 network settings, test the connection, open a compatible featured entry, then enter the destination details. |
| Address and port required | No; the game supplies the featured connection. | Yes; obtain the Bedrock address and port from the server owner. |
| Third-party dependency | No DNS redirect is needed. | Yes. The redirect and server-list screen depend on BedrockConnect’s service and current compatibility list. |
| Control over destination | Limited to the entries shown by Minecraft. | You can enter a compatible private or community Bedrock endpoint. |
| Change risk | Menu labels can change with a Minecraft update, but the route is built in. | Menu labels, supported featured entries, and DNS endpoints can change; current BedrockConnect documentation is the authority for its method. |
Use the featured route when the server you want is listed there. Use the workaround only when you need a custom Bedrock address and accept the extra setup and dependency.
Check compatibility before blaming the PS4
Edition
PS4 Minecraft uses Bedrock networking. Ask the administrator specifically for the Bedrock address and port. A Java address copied from a Java-only guide will not work on its own.
Cross-play configuration
Some communities operate separate Java and Bedrock endpoints. Others use a cross-play bridge. The owner must tell you which endpoint is intended for Bedrock players and whether a special port is required.

- Plug and Play: Simple to use; just insert the card into the memory card slot above the controller port to instantly access your saved data.
Game version
The client and server may need compatible versions. If the owner says the server is temporarily restricted to a particular release, update or wait according to those instructions rather than repeatedly reconnecting.
Resource packs and permissions
A server can require a resource pack or account permission after the network connection succeeds. Accept a required pack only when you trust the server operator, and read any warning displayed by Minecraft before proceeding.

“Multiplayer is disabled” or online play is unavailable
Verify that the Microsoft account is signed in and that PlayStation Plus is active. Then run the PS4 internet connection test. If the account belongs to a family group or has platform restrictions, the account owner may need to adjust those settings before Minecraft can use online services.
There is no Add Server button
On PS4, that can be expected. The general Bedrock workflow is not exposed identically on every platform. Use the featured list, the documented DNS workaround, or a friend/Realm invitation instead of looking for a control that your build does not provide.

- Repeat the PS4 connection test and confirm the primary and secondary DNS values were entered exactly.
- Close and restart Minecraft after changing network settings.
- Try a different featured entry identified as redirect-compatible by the current BedrockConnect documentation.
- Check whether the project has changed its DNS values or supported entries.
Do not assume that a successful internet test proves the redirect service is available; the test checks network access, not BedrockConnect’s current routing.
The custom server rejects the connection
Recheck the address, port, edition, and game-version requirements with the owner. A typo or Java-only endpoint produces the same broad symptom as an outage. Ask whether the server is online, whether new players need approval, and whether Bedrock connections are temporarily disabled.
The server works once and then disappears
Featured redirects and third-party endpoints can change. Confirm that the DNS values and compatible featured entries are still current. If you no longer need the workaround, restore DNS to Automatic and use the normal featured-server path.

A resource pack download stalls
Wait briefly for the download to complete, then restart Minecraft if it remains frozen. Verify that the PS4 has stable internet access and sufficient storage. If the server owner recently replaced the pack, ask whether the pack is currently available for PS4 Bedrock.
You receive a Java-server error
Contact the administrator and ask for a Bedrock endpoint or a configured cross-play bridge. Changing PS4 DNS cannot make a Java-only listener understand Bedrock traffic.
Using a friend or Realm instead
If the server owner can invite you to a friend’s Bedrock world or a Realm, that route avoids manual address entry. It is suitable when your goal is simply to play with a particular group rather than reach a standalone public server. You still need the Microsoft-account sign-in and online console access described above, and the host must send the invitation through Minecraft’s supported account system.
This option does not replace a custom server when you need an independently managed world, a persistent community address, or server-specific software. It is an alternative for private play when the PS4 interface cannot add an address directly.
Security and maintenance notes for the DNS method
BedrockConnect describes its project as free and open source and warns that similarly named mobile applications are not affiliated with it. Use the project’s current documentation rather than downloading an unrelated application or copying DNS values from an old post.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The DNS address, redirect behavior, and compatible featured-server list are operational details that can change. Keep a note of your original network configuration, avoid changing unrelated router settings, and return DNS to Automatic when you are done. If the workaround stops working, consult the current BedrockConnect project information before making further changes.
Only enter server details supplied by an operator you trust. A server can request a resource pack or display its own rules after connection; those requests are separate from the PS4 network setup.
Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
- The server is visible in Play > Servers: select it, proceed past the warning, and allow any required resource pack.
- You have an address and port but no Add Server field: confirm it is a Bedrock endpoint, then use the BedrockConnect DNS procedure if you accept the third-party dependency.
- You only need to join a friend’s private world: ask for a Bedrock friend or Realm invitation.
- The connection fails after all details are correct: ask the owner to verify the server status, Bedrock support, port, version, and any approval requirement.
- You want to stop using the workaround: change DNS back to Automatic and retest the PS4 connection.
