To play with a friend in AION 2, first find them through Friends management or select them nearby, send a friend request if needed, and wait for them to accept. Then select the friend and choose Invite to Party; they must accept that invitation separately. Being friends or being in a party does not guarantee that you are in the same world instance or sharing story progress.
The most reliable approach is to treat social connection, party formation, and shared activity entry as three separate steps. Add the correct character, confirm the friend request, send the party invitation, and then use the relevant instance or activity option if you still cannot see one another.

Choose how to find the player
| Option | Best when | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Search by character name | Your friend is not nearby, is in another area, or you cannot target them | Open Friends management, search for their character name, and send a request. |
| Select a nearby character | You can see the player in the world | Select their character and use the social action to add them or invite them. |
| Use an activity or group interface | You want to enter a supported dungeon or Expedition together | Form the party, then register or queue through that activity’s own group-entry flow. |
These options are described in third-party AION 2 guides. Exact labels and controls may change with updates, so use the equivalent social, Friends, Party, registration, or activity option shown in your current client if a label differs.

Character-name search is usually the better choice when the other player is offline, far away, or in a different area. Nearby selection is faster when both of you are standing together, but it is easier to click the wrong target in a crowded town or battlefield. The activity interface is different again: it is designed to place a group into supported content, not simply to save a contact or create an open-world party.

Add a friend by character name
- Open the main menu. The dated AION 2 Wiki guide says to press Esc or select the menu icon.
- Open Manage Friends. Look for the add-player search field in Friends management. If the client uses slightly different wording, choose the option that manages contacts or adds a player.
- Search for the character. Enter the character name carefully and confirm the request. Character names can be easy to mistype, especially when they contain repeated letters, unusual capitalization, or similar-looking characters.
- Check the request status. Open the requests panel if you want to verify that the request is pending rather than assuming it was sent.
- Wait for acceptance. The recipient needs to accept before the connection appears as an accepted entry in your Friends List.
A request is not the same as a party invitation. If you send a request while your friend is away from the keyboard, you can wait for acceptance and invite them later. If you only need to group immediately and can select the character nearby, the nearby social action may let you invite them directly; if you want a saved contact for future sessions, complete the friend request first.
How the recipient accepts
The other player must open their incoming requests or notification and accept the friend request. Until that happens, you should expect the player to remain in a pending state rather than in your normal Friends List. If the request disappears, ask the player to check whether it was declined, expired, or accepted on a different character.
Ask your friend to confirm the exact character name they are currently using. A player may have several characters, and searching for one name will not necessarily find another. If the search returns no result, verify spelling, region or client selection, and whether both players are currently using characters that the game’s social tools can connect. Do not assume that a missing result proves the player is offline.

Find and interact with someone nearby
- Reveal the cursor on PC. A third-party guide reports that holding Alt reveals the cursor for selecting a nearby character.
- Select the player character. Confirm that the target is the person you intend to interact with, not an enemy, NPC, summoned object, or the ground.
- Choose the appropriate social action. Send a friend request to save the contact, or choose the party invitation action if your immediate goal is to group.
- Confirm the target before sending. In a crowded area, move slightly or ask the friend to reposition so the interaction panel clearly identifies the correct character.
- Have the other player accept. A party forms only after the invitation is accepted.
The Alt instruction is specifically reported for PC. The available guidance does not establish the equivalent control on other platforms. If Alt does not reveal a cursor in your current build, use the platform’s normal targeting or social-control prompt and look for the same nearby-player action.
Nearby interaction is useful for a quick, one-time group, but it does not automatically create a lasting contact. Choose the friend-request action if you expect to play together again. Choose the party action when the immediate goal is to travel or fight together and you do not need to save the player.
Invite an accepted friend to your party
- Open Friends management and find the accepted friend in your Friends List.
- Select their entry and choose Invite to Party.
- Tell the friend to watch for the party notification and accept the invitation.
- Open the Party interface and check that both character names appear.
- Communicate where you will meet or which activity you will enter next; being listed in the party does not necessarily teleport either character.
Being on someone’s Friends List does not automatically place either player in a party. A friend request and a party invite are two separate actions, and each requested action requires the other player’s acceptance. If the friend is already in another group, the invitation may need to wait until that group is left or changed; follow the message shown by the live client rather than repeatedly sending requests.
What the party confirmation tells you
The Party interface confirms that the invitation was accepted and identifies the characters currently grouped. It does not by itself confirm that both players occupy the same map instance, story phase, or dungeon run. Use the party list together with the world view and the activity interface: names in the same party are a social connection, while a shared location or run is a separate state.

Open-world play
Third-party co-op guidance describes parties traveling and fighting ordinary open-world enemies together. This depends on both characters being in a shared world instance; party membership alone may not put them in the same one. If you can see your friend and enemies react to both characters, you are generally in the practical situation a party is meant to support. If the friend appears in the list but not in the world, troubleshoot the instance instead of sending another invitation.

Story missions and individual instances
Some story instances or objectives may separate party members, and completing an objective on one character may not advance it for the other. A party marker is not a promise that every cutscene, quest trigger, or boss encounter is synchronized. When the game places one player into an individual story segment, the safest plan is to complete that segment separately and regroup afterward.
Before entering a story objective, agree on whether both players are starting the same step. If one player is several objectives ahead, the game may load different instances even though the party remains intact. Avoid abandoning progress simply because your friend is not visible; first check whether the current mission intentionally uses a personal instance. Once both players return to a shared area, confirm visibility and continue with open-world tasks or a supported activity.
Dungeons and supported group activities
For supported group content, use the activity’s group interface to enter the same run where that option is available. The official AION 2 site describes five-player Expedition content and identifies Krao Cave as a dungeon for up to five players. The official Steam listing also describes five-player and ten-player dungeon formats. These are activity formats, not confirmation of a universal party-size limit or a particular menu workflow.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
In practice, form the party first, open the activity or dungeon menu, and look for a group registration, queue, or entry option. Make sure the activity accepts a premade party before confirming. If the interface asks for registration by the party leader, have the leader perform that step and wait for every member to load into the same run. Do not infer that an open-world party automatically registers everyone for a dungeon.
Party Finder and filling missing roles
A separate third-party social guide reports that Party Finder can help fill a group for supported activities. The current official materials establish multiplayer formats but do not confirm the current Party Finder labels, eligibility, or role rules. If your client shows Party Finder, check the activity menu for its requirements, open slots, and whether it accepts an existing party. Treat it as an optional reported tool, not as a guaranteed route for every activity or region.
If a party member is missing or in another instance
- Confirm party membership. Check the Party interface to make sure the invitation was accepted and both names are present.
- Check whether you share an instance. If the friend is grayed out, absent from your view, or otherwise unavailable, party status may not have moved the characters into the same world instance.
- Move to a common area. If one player is in a private story segment, finish or exit that segment as the game allows, then meet in an ordinary shared area.
- Look for an instance-joining or registration option. A third-party instance guide recommends forming the party first and then using the relevant option on the party member. The exact label can vary, so follow the live client’s wording.
- For group content, enter through its activity interface. If the activity supports a party, use its group entry or registration flow rather than relying on open-world proximity.
- Recheck after loading. Once the activity or instance loads, verify that both names remain in the party and that each player can see the expected objective or encounter.
- For a story segment that separates you, finish separately and regroup. Party membership does not ensure shared story-instance access or synchronized objective completion.
A grayed-out character can indicate an instance mismatch rather than a failed friend connection. The same applies when a party list shows a player who cannot be selected for a local interaction. Do not keep removing and re-adding the friend unless the client explicitly reports a social error; first use the instance or activity controls.
What to check if an invite does not work
- The friend is not in your list: check the request panel and make sure the recipient accepted the friend request. A pending request is not yet an accepted contact.
- The search finds no character: recheck the character name, confirm that your friend is using the intended character, and verify the region or client context. A failed search alone does not establish that cross-server play is impossible.
- The friend is listed but no party forms: send a party invite from the friend entry and have them accept that invite as well. Friends List status and party status are separate.
- You cannot select a nearby player: on PC, try the Alt cursor method described by the third-party guide; verify that the selected target is the player character rather than an enemy, NPC, or ground location.
- The nearby menu shows the wrong person: move apart, face the intended character, or use character-name search instead. Crowded hubs can make direct selection unreliable.
- You are grouped but cannot see each other: check for an instance mismatch and use an available instance-joining option, or enter supported group content through its activity interface.
- You expect both characters to advance a quest: story objectives may be individual or take place in separate instances. Complete the affected segment separately if the game does not keep you together.
- The activity will not accept the party: check whether the activity supports a premade group, whether the party size fits its format, and whether the party leader must register. The official materials describe five-player and ten-player formats for some content, but not one universal rule for every activity.
- You are trying to invite across servers or factions: do not assume it is supported. Guides and community reports do not settle the current rules for every region or client.
- The controls differ from this guide: use the equivalent current-client option. Social labels and instance behavior can change after updates.
Server and faction rules are not settled by the available guidance
A third-party friend guide asserts that friend connections can work across servers, but community posts describe confusion and conflicting experiences. The available official materials do not establish the current cross-server or cross-faction rules for every region. Try the in-game character search or activity tools, and check the rules presented in your own regional client rather than relying on a broad guarantee.

Practical workflow for a first co-op session
- Agree on the character names and region. Have both players log in to the characters they intend to use.
- Send the friend request. Use Manage Friends and character-name search, or select the visible player nearby.
- Accept the request. The recipient should confirm the incoming request so the contact appears in the accepted Friends List.
- Send the party invitation. Select the accepted friend and choose Invite to Party.
- Confirm the party. Both names should appear in the Party interface after the recipient accepts.
- Meet in a shared area. If one player is in an individual story instance, finish that segment or use the available joining option.
- Choose the right play mode. Travel and fight ordinary open-world enemies together when you share an instance; use an activity interface for a dungeon, Expedition, or other supported group run.
- Regroup after solo content. Story objectives may need to be completed separately even while the party remains active.
This sequence prevents the most common misunderstanding: a successful friend request proves only that the social connection was accepted, and a successful party invite proves only that the group was formed. Shared location, shared story progress, and shared dungeon entry each require their own in-game conditions.

How do I invite a friend to my party in AION 2?
Open Friends management, select the accepted friend, choose Invite to Party, and wait for the friend to accept the party invitation. A friend request alone does not create a party.
Can I invite someone I have not added as a friend?
If the player is nearby, the reported social interaction can let you select the character and use a party invitation directly. If you want a saved contact, send a friend request as well and wait for acceptance.
How do I add a player by name?
Press Esc or open the menu icon, choose Manage Friends, enter the character name in the add-player search field, and confirm the request. The other player must accept before the contact appears as an accepted friend.
What key selects a nearby player on PC?
A dated third-party guide reports that holding Alt reveals the cursor for nearby-character selection on PC. The equivalent control on other platforms is not established by that guide, and controls may change in later clients.
Why can I see my friend in the party but not in the world?
Party membership does not necessarily place both characters in the same world instance. Check for an instance-joining or registration option, move to a shared area, or enter supported content through its activity interface.
Will my friend receive my story progress?
Not always. Some story instances and objectives are individual, so one character may not advance when the other completes the step. Complete separated story segments individually and regroup afterward.

Supported group content is designed for parties, but entry should be made through the dungeon or activity interface. Official AION 2 materials describe five-player Expedition content, Krao Cave for up to five players, and five-player and ten-player dungeon formats on Steam. The exact registration workflow can vary.

Does AION 2 Party Finder always work for friends?
A third-party social guide reports Party Finder for supported activities, but current official materials do not confirm its exact interface or eligibility. If it appears in your activity menu, check its requirements and whether it accepts an existing party.
Can I play with someone on another server or faction?
Do not assume that every server and faction combination is supported. A third-party guide and community experiences conflict, while official materials do not settle every regional rule. Test the in-game search and activity options in your own client.
Why did my friend request succeed but my party invite fail?
Those are separate actions. The friend may not have accepted the party invitation, may already be grouped, or may be in a mode or instance that prevents the invitation. Check the Party interface and follow the message shown by the client.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Should I remove and re-add a friend who is missing?
Usually not as a first step. Confirm acceptance, check the party list, verify the character and region, and troubleshoot the instance or activity entry. Re-adding the player will not automatically place both characters in the same story or world instance.
Keep the three statuses separate
There are three useful checks whenever you play with a friend: friend status, party status, and shared-instance status. Friend status means the contact was found and accepted. Party status means the invitation was accepted and both names appear in the Party interface. Shared-instance status means both characters are actually in the same world, story phase, or supported activity run.
Checking all three explains most apparent invite problems. Search and accept the character first, invite and confirm the party second, then use the world or activity tools to join the same playable space. When a story segment is intentionally individual, finish it separately instead of expecting party membership to synchronize it.
The social-menu steps above come from third-party guides, while official AION 2 materials establish multiplayer activity formats rather than the exact friend and party controls. Menu names and instance behavior can change, so the options visible in your current client take precedence.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I invite a friend to my party in AION 2?
Open Friends management, select the accepted friend, choose Invite to Party, and have the friend accept the party invitation.
Best Value
Can I invite a nearby player without adding them first?
The reported nearby-player social action can let you invite a visible character directly. Send a friend request too if you want to save the contact.
Why is my friend not appearing in Friends List?
The request may still be pending. The recipient must accept it before the player appears as an accepted friend.
Why can party members not see each other?
Party membership does not guarantee the same world or story instance. Use an instance-joining option, meet in a shared area, or enter supported content through its activity interface.
Does party membership synchronize story quests?
No. Some story instances and objectives are individual, so players may need to complete those segments separately.
How do I select a nearby player on PC?
A dated third-party guide reports holding Alt to reveal the cursor. Controls may differ by platform or client version.
Can I invite across servers or factions?
Rules are not settled for every region and client. Test the in-game search and activity tools instead of assuming cross-server or cross-faction play works.
Can friends enter AION 2 dungeons together?
Use the dungeon or activity group interface. Official materials describe five-player and ten-player formats for some content, but each activity can have its own requirements.
The Bottom Line
Search for the character or select them nearby, send and accept the friend request if needed, then send a separate Invite to Party and have the player accept it. After both names appear in the Party interface, verify that you share an instance. Open-world and story content can separate players, while supported dungeons and Expeditions should be entered through their activity group interface. Cross-server and cross-faction behavior depends on the current regional client, so verify it in game.
