Whether a Xiaomi device can connect to SmartThings depends on its exact model, region and protocol. The clearest documented route is for a Xiaomi device that is Matter-certified: add it in the SmartThings app using its Matter QR code or setup code. Xiaomi’s documentation describes its Zigbee and Bluetooth child devices being paired through Mi Home, but does not establish that a Xiaomi hub exposes those devices to SmartThings.
First identify the device and its protocol
“Xiaomi device” covers products that use different protocols and ecosystems. Check the exact model number and regional version on the device label, packaging or product information, then look for its Matter certification and connection protocol. A product that uses Zigbee, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is not automatically compatible with SmartThings just because both systems support that technology.

- Matter: Check for the Matter badge and the product’s setup code or QR code. SmartThings documents onboarding for certified Matter devices; confirm the specific product and supported controller requirements before proceeding. SmartThings Matter integration guide.
- Thread: If the Matter device uses Thread, you need a supported Matter controller that also includes a Thread Border Router. The Matter badge alone does not supply that network function. SmartThings Matter integration guide.
- Zigbee or Bluetooth child device: Xiaomi’s hub pages describe pairing these devices through Mi Home. They do not establish that the hub bridges them into SmartThings. Xiaomi Smart Home Hub 2; Mi Smart Home Hub.
- Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi by itself does not establish SmartThings compatibility. Check whether the exact product supports Matter or has a documented SmartThings integration.
Compatibility can also differ by model and region. Xiaomi’s official pages for its Smart Home Hub 2 and Mi Smart Home Hub describe Xiaomi ecosystem setup; consult the product’s own official support information for details that apply to your version. The available official documentation does not provide a comprehensive Xiaomi-to-SmartThings compatibility list.

SmartThings says a device with the Matter badge can connect through a supported Matter controller in the SmartThings app. Check its Matter integration requirements for supported controllers, app and firmware requirements before troubleshooting a device-specific setup.
What Xiaomi hub support does—and does not—establish
Xiaomi describes Mi Home as the place to add and configure its products and create automations. Its hubs use Xiaomi’s ecosystem for connected devices, including Zigbee and Bluetooth child devices. Xiaomi lists the Smart Home Hub 2 as supporting up to 100 Bluetooth and Zigbee child devices, and the Mi Smart Home Hub as supporting up to 32; those figures are Xiaomi’s stated capacities, not SmartThings device limits. Smart Home Hub 2 details; Mi Smart Home Hub details.

- Long battery life Soft ambient glow Smart dual sensor detection Effortless switching between two modes
Those Xiaomi pages explain pairing child devices through Mi Home, but do not say that either hub bridges its Zigbee or Bluetooth devices into SmartThings. That integration is therefore not established in the available official documentation. This is not proof that no third-party workaround exists; it means you should not assume the Xiaomi hub will make those devices appear in SmartThings.
Could an Aqara bridge help?
Aqara documents Matter bridging to Samsung SmartThings for compatible Aqara hubs and supported Aqara functionality. Its documentation is relevant if you are trying to connect Aqara devices through an eligible Aqara hub, but it does not confirm that Xiaomi-branded sensors or other Xiaomi child devices will work through that bridge. Check Aqara’s own compatibility and setup guidance for the exact Aqara hub and devices: Aqara’s SmartThings bridging guide, Aqara Matter bridge information and FP300 product information.

Choose the route that matches your device
| What you have | Practical next step | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| A Xiaomi product confirmed to be Matter-certified | Use SmartThings’ Matter QR-code or setup-code flow; confirm controller and firmware requirements. | SmartThings documents onboarding for certified Matter devices. Thread-based devices also require a Thread Border Router. |
| A Xiaomi Zigbee or Bluetooth child device paired to a Xiaomi hub | Set it up in Mi Home; do not assume it will appear in SmartThings. | Xiaomi documents child-device pairing through Mi Home, not a SmartThings bridge for those devices. |
| An Aqara device and compatible Aqara hub | Check Aqara’s Matter bridge requirements and supported features for the exact model. | Aqara documents a route to SmartThings for supported Aqara functionality; this does not establish Xiaomi-device support. |
| A Xiaomi device whose protocol or certification is unclear | Find the exact regional model and check its official product or support information before buying a controller or attempting setup. | The available official sources do not provide a comprehensive Xiaomi-to-SmartThings compatibility matrix. |
If SmartThings does not find the device
- Verify the exact model and regional version, then confirm that it is Matter-certified rather than relying on a general claim that it uses Wi-Fi, Zigbee or Bluetooth.
- For Matter setup, use the device’s QR code or setup code and check the SmartThings requirements for your controller, app and firmware.
- If it uses Thread, confirm that the controller includes a Thread Border Router.
- If it is a Xiaomi Zigbee or Bluetooth child device, pair it through Mi Home as Xiaomi documents; the cited Xiaomi hub information does not establish a path for adding it to SmartThings.
