There are three different ways to connect Discord to a live stream: show Discord chat, voice, or status in an OBS scene; include Discord call audio in the stream mix; or sync Twitch subscribers or YouTube channel members with roles in a Discord server. These are separate tasks. The steps below cover the official visual-overlay and account-integration workflows, explain privacy checks, and clarify what the available Discord overlay instructions do not establish about call audio.
Choose the Discord integration you need

Official Discord guidance for Streamkit was published in 2021, and interface labels may change. Treat the steps below as the documented workflow; if a label differs, use the current Discord or OBS interface to find the equivalent control.

How to show Discord chat or voice in OBS
Discord’s Streamkit Overlay provides Status, Chat, and Voice widgets. You can customize each one, and each has its own installation link. Discord says the widgets can be used at the same time.
- Open Discord’s OBS Streamkit Overlay instructions and choose the OBS overlay. Authorize the overlay in the Discord client. Discord says authorization lets the overlay perform an action in the client, including generating an invite for the Status widget if you choose that feature. Review or revoke connected applications under User Settings > Connections > Authorized Apps.
- Select a server and widget. Choose Status, Chat, or Voice, configure the available options, and check the preview. Repeat this for each widget you want to display.
- Add each widget to OBS. Copy its separate installation link. In OBS Studio, add a Browser Source, paste the link, and set the source width and height to match the dimensions displayed on the Streamkit page.
- Arrange and preview the source. Position it in your OBS scene and confirm that it is legible and not covering other content before going live.
What the Voice widget does—and does not do
The Voice widget is a visual overlay. It can show voice-channel activity, but the Streamkit instructions do not say how to route the sound of a Discord call into OBS. Do not assume that seeing the widget means viewers can hear the call. Audio capture and mixing require a separate setup whose steps depend on your operating system and production configuration.

How to connect Twitch subscribers to Discord roles
Discord’s Twitch integration lets eligible creators provide subscriber-only access to a server or channels. Discord documents eligibility for Twitch Partners and Affiliates; linking a Twitch account alone does not finish the server integration.
- In Discord, open User Settings > Connections and connect your Twitch account.
- In the Discord server, open Server Settings > Integrations, choose Twitch, and follow the prompts to configure the integration.
- Set server or channel permissions for the managed subscriber roles so the intended areas are available only to subscribers.
Discord says subscriber lists sync automatically and server administrators can start a manual sync. The integration creates managed Twitch Subscriber and tier roles. Administrators can rename those roles and change their permissions, and can set a grace period before a former subscriber loses access or is removed. Because the integration manages the roles, members cannot be manually added to or deleted from them.

How to sync YouTube channel members to Discord
Discord’s YouTube integration requires a YouTube Partner whose channel has memberships enabled.
- In Discord, open User Settings > Connections and connect the YouTube account.
- Open the server’s Server Settings > Integrations, select YouTube, and enable the channel.
- Choose whether the whole server or selected channels should be available only to members, then configure the related permissions.
Discord says memberships normally sync automatically and administrators can initiate a manual sync. The integration creates managed YouTube Member and tier roles. Administrators can change their names, permissions, and colors, but the integration manages membership assignment. Settings also let administrators choose a grace period and whether to remove a role or kick a user after membership ends.

Protect personal information before going live
Before displaying the Discord client or stream-related information, review Streamer Mode. Discord’s documentation describes controls to hide Discord tags, email addresses, stream connections, and server invite links, and to disable desktop notifications and channel-join or notification sounds. It can be enabled manually, assigned a keybind, or set to activate automatically when Discord detects OBS or XSplit. The support article was published in 2021, so check the current client for the available controls and labels.
If you manage server connections, the Server Integrations page centralizes Twitch and YouTube integrations, bots, webhooks, and apps. Discord says administrators can also review the permissions requested by an installed bot or app.

Troubleshoot common Discord stream integration problems
- The widget does not appear in OBS: confirm that the Browser Source contains the installation link for the widget you selected, and that its dimensions match the Streamkit page. Each widget has a separate link.
- The widget appears at the wrong size or is hard to read: adjust the Browser Source width and height to the dimensions shown by Streamkit, then reposition and inspect it in the OBS preview.
- Viewers see voice activity but cannot hear the call: the widget is visual only. The cited Streamkit instructions do not document Discord call audio routing; configure audio capture separately for your operating system and OBS mix.
- Twitch subscribers do not receive the intended server access: verify that the creator is a Partner or Affiliate, the Twitch account is connected in Discord, and Twitch is configured under the server’s Server Settings > Integrations. Check role permissions and, if needed, trigger a manual sync.
- YouTube members do not receive the intended access: verify that the channel is a YouTube Partner with memberships enabled, the account is connected, and the channel is enabled in the server’s YouTube integration. Review the managed role’s permissions or start a manual sync.
- Personal information or notifications appear on stream: review Streamer Mode and the current client’s privacy, invite-link, notification, and sound controls before broadcasting.
