To integrate a Telegram bot with Laravel, receive updates at a public HTTPS webhook, verify Telegram’s secret-token header, and dispatch accepted updates to a durable Laravel queue before returning a successful response. Make job side effects safe to repeat: Telegram can retry unsuccessful webhook deliveries, and queues do not provide exactly-once processing.
Choose a Laravel Telegram package that fits your app
A Telegram SDK package can simplify Bot API calls and webhook setup, but there is no universal package choice established for every Laravel release. The Telegram Bot SDK’s webhook guide is specifically for version 3.x; keep its examples paired with that package version. Its Laravel package repository points to vendor documentation for usage.

Before installing either option, check its current PHP and Laravel constraints, maintenance activity, Bot API coverage, security handling, and whether it requires migrations or persistent state. Store the bot token and webhook secret in environment-specific configuration, not in committed source files or public examples. Avoid logging either value. Configuration names differ among packages: use the names documented for the package and version installed in your application. The php-telegram-bot/laravel README, for example, documents its own bot token and username settings, plus optional Bot API URL and admin user IDs.

Choose webhook or polling
Telegram offers two mutually exclusive ways to receive bot updates: outgoing webhooks and getUpdates long polling. While a webhook is configured, getUpdates cannot receive updates. Telegram keeps updates for no longer than 24 hours, so plan for outages and recover promptly.

The php-telegram-bot/laravel package documents telegram:fetch for polling and telegram:set-webhook and telegram:delete-webhook for webhook management; these are package-specific commands, not Laravel-wide commands.

Register an HTTPS webhook and shared secret
Set the webhook through Telegram’s Bot API setWebhook method, using a publicly reachable HTTPS URL. With secret_token configured, Telegram sends its value in the X-Telegram-Bot-Api-Secret-Token request header. Telegram’s current Bot API documentation (accessed 2026; publication year not stated) allows a secret of 1–256 characters, using letters, digits, underscores, and hyphens. Configure the same value in Laravel and compare the header before trusting or parsing the update.
Telegram documents webhook connection limits of 1–100 concurrent connections, with a default of 40. The allowed_updates setting lets you limit update types delivered; changing it does not affect updates that were already created. Telegram also supports drop_pending_updates, which discards pending updates: use it only when intentionally losing that backlog is acceptable. The API lists webhook ports 443, 80, 88, and 8443, while specifying HTTPS for the webhook URL. Self-signed certificates require uploading the public-key certificate in the form Telegram expects.

Route the webhook and exempt only that route from CSRF checks
Create a POST route for the webhook path and use the route style supported by your installed Laravel version and package. The Telegram Bot SDK 3.x guide demonstrates a Laravel POST route and notes that the webhook path must be exempt from Laravel’s CSRF verification. Middleware configuration differs between Laravel versions; follow the documentation for your version and exclude only the webhook endpoint, not an entire route group or the application.
Verify, enqueue, then acknowledge
Telegram sends an HTTPS POST containing a JSON-serialized Update. Verify X-Telegram-Bot-Api-Secret-Token before accepting the request or parsing its payload. Then hand the update to durable application work and return a successful 2xx response only after Laravel has accepted responsibility for that work.

- Authenticate: compare the incoming secret-token header with the configured value; reject a missing or incorrect value.
- Validate: parse the JSON and check that it is a usable Telegram Update for your handler.
- Accept durable work: persist the update or dispatch a queue job using a backend appropriate to your reliability and throughput needs.
- Acknowledge: return a successful 2xx response after the persistence or dispatch succeeds. If acceptance fails, do not acknowledge work that the application has not secured.
- Process asynchronously: let a queue worker perform slower application tasks outside the webhook request.
Telegram retries unsuccessful webhook deliveries for a reasonable number of attempts; its cited API documentation does not specify a fixed retry count. A short handler with enqueue-before-ack is an engineering pattern based on that behavior and Laravel’s queue model, not a promise of exactly-once processing. Duplicate webhook delivery or job retries can repeat effects, so make handlers idempotent or use durable deduplication keyed to the Telegram update identifier where appropriate.
Configure queues for the work, not for Telegram specifically
Laravel supports queue backends including relational databases, Redis, and Amazon SQS. Choose based on existing infrastructure, durability and monitoring needs, expected throughput, operational burden, and cost. Laravel does not prescribe a Telegram-specific retry policy.

Set job attempt limits, backoff, timeouts, and failed-job handling to match the work being performed. Laravel also offers unique-job behavior such as ShouldBeUnique, which uses locks; in a multi-server application, uniqueness requires a shared central cache. Unique jobs can help control duplicate queue work, but they do not by themselves guarantee exactly-once processing or cover every duplicate webhook scenario. Inspect and retry failed jobs using the facilities configured for your Laravel application.
Diagnose webhook delivery separately from job processing
Use Telegram’s getWebhookInfo method to inspect the configured URL, pending update count, and recent delivery error information. If Telegram reports delivery errors, investigate endpoint reachability, HTTPS/TLS, routing, and the webhook response. If delivery is healthy but application work is delayed or failing, check queue-worker health, backend availability, and failed jobs. Telegram’s delivery status and Laravel’s downstream job status are separate parts of the pipeline.
