How to Install the iOS 27.2 Public Beta and Leave the Beta Program

Install the iOS 27.2 public beta through Software Update, then choose whether to stop future betas or restore to an earlier public iOS version.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To install the iOS 27.2 public beta, enroll your iPhone in Apple’s Beta Software Program, enable public beta updates in Settings, then install the offered update. To stop future betas, set Beta Updates to Off. That setting does not remove the beta already installed; to downgrade immediately, you need Apple’s separate restore process.

What iOS 27.2 beta is currently listed?

Apple’s release feed lists iOS 27.2 beta 3 (build 24B5099f), dated October 5, 2026. Apple’s Beta Software Program includes iOS 27, but the build offered to your iPhone may depend on enrollment and availability. Check Software Update on the device and install the version shown there rather than assuming every enrolled iPhone will receive the same build at the same time.

Before installing the public beta

  • Back up your iPhone. Apple recommends a backup before installing beta software.
  • Expect possible problems. Apple warns beta software may contain errors or inaccuracies and may not work as well as commercially released software.
  • Consider which device to use. Apple advises installing beta software only on a non-production device that is not business critical, and recommends a secondary device where practical.

These cautions and Apple’s enrollment guidance are in its Beta Software Program FAQ.

How to enroll and install the iOS public beta

  1. Sign in to the Apple Beta Software Program with the Apple Account used on your iPhone, then enroll the device by following Apple’s on-screen instructions.
  2. On the iPhone, open Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select the iOS public beta option offered for your account and device.
  3. Return to Settings > General > Software Update. If iOS 27.2 public beta is offered, review the displayed update and tap Download and Install.
  4. Let the iPhone complete the update and restart. The time required and the build displayed can vary; use the update shown on your own device.

Apple says enrolled devices receive beta releases through Software Update. The iOS 27 public beta is part of Apple’s program, but enrollment does not guarantee that a particular build will immediately appear on every device.

How to turn off beta updates

On iOS 16.4 or later, open Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates, then select Off. Apple documents this route in its instructions for uninstalling iOS or iPadOS beta software.

Turning Beta Updates off stops future beta updates; it does not uninstall or roll back the beta already on your iPhone. You can wait for the next commercial iOS release and install it through Software Update. Apple’s FAQ says an unenrolled device can install the next commercial version when it is released.

How to leave the Apple Beta Software Program

Turning off beta updates on one iPhone and leaving the program are separate actions. To leave the program account-wide, sign in to Apple’s Unenroll Your Devices page and follow its instructions. Apple says leaving ends program emails and access to submitting feedback through Feedback Assistant.

How to downgrade immediately instead of waiting

If you want to return to a previously released iOS version now, turning Beta Updates off is not enough. Apple describes this as a separate restore process and says a previously released iOS version can be restored from a backup made before beta installation. Follow Apple’s current beta removal instructions and restore guidance; do not assume a backup made after installing the beta can restore the earlier system state.

If your iPhone does not show the beta option

  • Check that you enrolled the device using the Apple Account associated with the iPhone.
  • Reopen Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and check whether a public beta option is available.
  • Return to Software Update and check the version actually offered. Availability can change, and a listed release is not a promise that every enrolled device will see it at once.

Apple’s current support path applies to iOS 16.4 and later. Apple also documents a legacy beta-profile method for iOS 16.3.1 or earlier; iOS 27 users should use the Beta Updates setting instead.
