On most Galaxy Z Fold models, open Settings > Software update > Download and install, then follow the prompts if an update is offered. To check the security patch separately, use Settings > Security and privacy > Updates > Security update when that menu is available. Prepare your Galaxy Z Fold
Before starting, Samsung recommends preparing the phone so it can complete the installation safely:

- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it.
Depending on the device, the menu may instead show options such as Download now, Install now, Check for system updates, or Check for software updates. Some phones download an offered update automatically. Samsung notes that menu labels and prompts vary by provider and software version; its general guide is for devices sold in Canada. How do I check for security updates on a Galaxy Z Fold?
On supported software versions, open Settings > Security and privacy > Updates > Security update. The phone should indicate whether it is up to date; if it offers an update, follow the prompts. The separate security-update menu may not appear on every Fold model or software version. See Samsung’s security update instructions.
How can I verify which software is installed?
Open Settings > About phone > Software information to view the One UI version, Android version, and build information. The Software update menu may also contain Last update details. These details help identify the software on the phone when checking release availability or asking for support. Why does my Galaxy Z Fold say it’s up to date?
A missing update does not by itself mean the phone is unsupported. Samsung says it can be normal for no update to be available: releases may depend on the exact model, region, and carrier. Unlocked devices typically receive updates sooner, while a carrier may review or customize an update before distributing it to carrier-locked phones. Timing is not guaranteed. Check the phone’s model and software information, then ask the carrier whether that model has a release available in your market. Samsung’s rollout guidance explains why an update may not appear.

If the download or installation fails, use Samsung’s software-update troubleshooting and support guidance. If the update does not appear after checking the model and software details, contact the carrier to confirm release availability. Samsung’s general guidance does not establish a single update schedule or support end date for every Z Fold model, carrier, and region, so check the exact device and market rather than relying on a schedule for another Fold variant.
Do all Galaxy Z Fold models use the same update process?
The main manual check is generally under Settings > Software update, but labels and available options can vary. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 manual documents manual download and installation, Wi-Fi auto-download, and Last update details; it also notes that emergency security updates may be installed automatically. Treat those details as specific to the Fold6 manual, not as proof that every generation has identical menus. Samsung’s broader statement that Galaxy products launched from 2019 receive security updates for at least four years, with monthly, quarterly, or twice-yearly frequency, is not a model-specific guarantee for every Z Fold variant or market.
