You can try ReSkate on Steam Deck by installing its Windows files beside Skate.exe, adding ReSkateLauncher.exe to Steam as a non-Steam game, and launching it through Proton. ReSkate’s official instructions cover the files and launcher, but not Steam Deck setup; using Proton on Deck is community-reported practice, not a guaranteed or officially supported method.
What you need before installing
- A Steam Deck with access to Desktop Mode and an internet connection.
- Your own Steam copy of skate. ReSkate is a fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Full Circle, and requires the Steam game. See the official ReSkate README.
- A compatible game build. At the time the README was checked for this guide, it listed Steam build
25414733as supported. The launcher checks game files against the supported build, so consult the README before installing in case the requirement has changed.
The ReSkate releases page showed version 1.1.2, released October 6, 2026, when checked October 7, 2026. Download the latest release rather than assuming that version remains current.

Install ReSkate on Steam Deck
Valve says Steam Deck runs SteamOS, includes Proton, and provides access to the desktop. Proton is Valve’s compatibility layer for running games without a developer port, but that does not mean every Windows launcher or game configuration will work. ReSkate’s README does not document a Steam Deck installation method.

- Switch to Desktop Mode. Open the Steam menu, choose Power, then Switch to Desktop.
- Download the current ReSkate ZIP. Use the official ReSkate releases page and download the latest
ReSkate-<version>.zipasset. - Extract the launcher and DLL beside the game executable. In the extracted files, locate
ReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dll. Place both in the folder containingSkate.exe. ReSkate’s official alternative is to extract them into an empty folder; its launcher can install the game there. - Add the launcher to Steam. Open Steam in Desktop Mode, select Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, browse to
ReSkateLauncher.exe, and add it. The exact file picker labels can vary with Steam updates. - Set a compatibility tool if needed. In Steam, open the new launcher shortcut’s Properties > Compatibility, enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, and select Proton Experimental. A community post reports that ReSkate ran on a Steam Deck OLED with Proton Experimental, but that single report does not establish compatibility across Deck models or versions.
- Run the launcher. Select the shortcut and press Play. The official instructions say the launcher checks files and authenticates or downloads through Steam if needed; then press PLAY in the ReSkate launcher.
Valve describes Proton and Steam Deck desktop access on its Steam Deck software page. The Deck-specific Proton approach above is based on an individual community report, not an official ReSkate compatibility statement.

Choose a ReSkate multiplayer connection
ReSkate provides its own multiplayer routes: Steam lobbies and a browser for dedicated servers. These are not connections to EA’s official servers. According to the ReSkate README, offline play does not require EA servers.

After ReSkate launches, open its multiplayer options to host or join a lobby, or use the server browser to select a dedicated server. The README says the Insert key opens ReSkate’s in-game menu; menu and console keys can be changed in launcher settings.

Troubleshoot a failed launch
- The launcher will not start: try Proton Experimental in the non-Steam shortcut’s Compatibility settings. It is a reasonable troubleshooting step based on one Deck OLED report, not a guaranteed fix.
- The launcher rejects or updates the game files: check the current supported build in the README. Build support and release files can change.
- You cannot find the game executable: confirm that
ReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dllare besideSkate.exe, or use ReSkate’s documented empty-folder method so the launcher installs the game there. - You cannot find the server browser: open ReSkate’s in-game menu with Insert or check the key assignments in launcher settings.
Crash reporting and privacy
The ReSkate README says that if the launcher or game crashes, ReSkate uploads a crash minidump and that session’s log to the project’s Backtrace account. The README says the log does not contain your Steam password or login name. To disable crash reporting, use Settings (ADVANCED) in the launcher or set RESKATE_CRASH_REPORTING=0.
