OpenMuse on CasaOS is described in a community guide as a three-container deployment: an API server, a web chat interface, and a browser worker. It is not an official OpenMuse or CasaOS installation method, and the exact branch configuration and credential handling should be checked before deployment. The guide assumes you already have a working CasaOS host, SSH access, a model endpoint, and a CopilotKit Intelligence project key.
The walkthrough below distinguishes the guide author’s recipe from CasaOS’s documented platform facts. It does not treat CasaOS support for a device or operating system as proof that this OpenMuse branch will build or run well there.

What the OpenMuse CasaOS setup is intended to run
The October 7, 2026 DEV Community guide describes a CasaOS v0.4.9 installation with three containers. Its author says the assistant can chat, manage CasaOS apps, read logs, and start or stop containers with user approval; those capabilities have not been independently verified against the project source code.
| Container | Role described by the guide | Port |
|---|---|---|
api |
Node API server and agent brain | 8787 |
web |
Static chat interface served through nginx | 8081 |
browser-worker |
Sandboxed browser for web tasks, bound to loopback | 8790 |
These roles and port assignments are reported by the community guide, not an official support matrix. Its full page and the named branch were not available for source-level verification. Read the guide’s accessible DEV Community listing with that limitation in mind.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check prerequisites before building
The guide names these prerequisites:
- A functioning CasaOS host with Docker and Docker Compose.
- SSH access from a separate computer.
- An OpenRouter API key or another OpenAI-compatible model endpoint.
- A CopilotKit Intelligence project key, which the guide says is required in every mode.
Credential names, current CopilotKit requirements, provider options, and the way this branch injects or protects secrets have not been verified. Before entering keys, inspect the live Compose configuration and application files. Keep credentials out of public Compose files and shell history, and check whether logs or browser-delivered code could expose them.
CasaOS lists amd64/x86-64, arm64, and armv7 hardware architectures. Its README identifies Debian 12 as tested and recommended, Ubuntu Server 20.04 as tested, and Raspberry Pi OS as officially supported; it also lists several other systems as community supported, some not fully tested. Those are CasaOS statements, not evidence that this OpenMuse branch builds on every listed platform. See the CasaOS README for its platform information.

Prepare an SSH session and check for port conflicts
The guide author recommends SSH because they report that CasaOS’s browser terminal can mangle keystrokes during a session. That is an experience-based warning, not proof that the UI terminal always fails for app installation. Separately, CasaOS’s README says terminal-based CasaOS updates should be run over SSH or from a directly attached terminal rather than the CasaOS UI terminal.

The guide warns that docker compose down only affects the project being managed: it will not stop an unrelated host process or a container belonging to another Compose project. Identify the owner of any conflict before stopping anything.

Follow the guide’s source-tree approach cautiously
The surfaced recipe creates /DATA/AppData/openmuse, changes ownership to the current user, and clones the project into a repo subdirectory on branch casaos-manager-v3. The author describes /DATA/AppData as a conventional CasaOS app-data location and says the Dockerfiles expect the repo/ source tree. Because the branch and its current requirements were not verified, confirm the branch exists and review its files before using these operations:
sudo mkdir -p /DATA/AppData/openmuse
sudo chown -R "$USER":"$USER" /DATA/AppData/openmuse
cd /DATA/AppData/openmuse
git clone --branch casaos-manager-v3 https://github.com/Magrebi/openmuse.git repo
Do not assume that this path, ownership change, or branch remains appropriate for every CasaOS installation. Check what is already in the target directory before running commands, and read the branch’s Compose file, Dockerfiles, volume mounts, and environment configuration before starting containers.

Build and validate the deployment
The community guide estimates roughly 30 minutes for installation, with most of that time spent waiting for the build. Treat that as the author’s estimate, not a benchmark or a guaranteed duration. Build time and success can vary by host and by the state of the branch.
Before launching the stack, confirm the current configuration provides the values and safeguards the deployment needs:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Which environment-variable names hold the model endpoint and CopilotKit key.
- How secrets are supplied, and whether they appear in logs, generated assets, or browser-visible responses.
- Which host directories are mounted into containers and where persistent data is stored.
- Whether the browser worker is actually bound only to loopback, as the guide describes.
- What health checks, restart policies, and rollback procedure the current Compose file defines.
- Whether the branch has architecture constraints that affect your CasaOS host.
Once the deployment is running, verify the services and intended port bindings on your own host before relying on app-management actions. Give an assistant that can start or stop containers only the access you intend it to have.
Decide whether this is a suitable host
This recipe is most appropriate when you already have a CasaOS machine, can administer it over SSH, can supply the stated service credentials, and are comfortable running a community-maintained branch rather than an official installer. The available information gives no OpenMuse minimum for RAM, storage, or GPU, so do not use CasaOS’s platform list to infer workload capacity or performance.
If you are choosing a system from scratch, CasaOS lists Raspberry Pi OS as supported, but that alone does not establish compatibility or useful performance for this OpenMuse branch on a particular Raspberry Pi. Confirm branch-level build support and size the hardware for your intended workload before committing to a device.

CasaOS installation is separate from OpenMuse installation
If CasaOS is not installed yet, its setup documentation gives these commands for a freshly installed supported system:
wget -qO- https://get.casaos.io | sudo bash
curl -fsSL https://get.casaos.io | sudo bash
They are alternatives, not commands needed for an existing CasaOS host. CasaOS also says command-line updates should be run through SSH or a directly attached terminal. Consult the CasaOS Guides index for its setup documentation.
