Mozilla Firefox is listed in Microsoft’s Enterprise App Catalog, so you can deploy it to managed Windows devices from the Intune admin center without packaging the installer yourself. You pick a Firefox package, review the settings Intune fills in, and assign the app to device or user groups. Two checks come first: your tenant needs the Enterprise App Management subscription in addition to Intune Plan 1 or Plan 2, and the package list you see in your own admin center is the one that matters.
What your tenant and devices need
- An Intune license: Intune Plan 1 or Plan 2.
- The Enterprise App Management add-on: Microsoft describes it as an additional subscription on top of Intune Plan 1 or Plan 2. Check the tenant’s current entitlement before you plan the rollout, because licensing terms can change.
- Supported devices: managed Windows devices running 64-bit Windows are supported under Microsoft’s Enterprise App Management documentation. Confirm that your target devices meet this before assigning.
- Administrative rights: the account creating the app needs permission to add Windows apps and assign them to groups in your tenant.
Microsoft’s Enterprise App Management documentation lists the prerequisites and the catalog contents. If Firefox does not appear in your catalog, confirm the add-on before anything else; the troubleshooting section below covers that case.

Add Firefox from the Enterprise App Catalog
Microsoft describes the catalog as “a collection of prepackaged Win32 apps that are designed and prepared by Microsoft to support Intune.” Firefox is one of those apps. The steps below follow Microsoft’s guide to adding an Enterprise App Catalog app.
- Sign in to the Intune admin center and go to the Windows app area. Start adding a new Windows app and choose the option for an app from the Enterprise App Catalog.
- Search for Mozilla Firefox and select it.
- Choose the package you want. The choices are the package name, language, architecture, and version offered in your tenant (see the next section).
- Review the populated app information, program settings, requirements, and detection rules. Leave them as Microsoft provides them unless you have a specific operational reason to change them.
- Set the assignment intent and target groups, review the settings, and create the app.
Choose the Firefox package carefully
The package step decides which Firefox build reaches your devices, so match it to your fleet before you assign it:
#1 Best Overall
- STREAMLIMED AND INTUITIVE UI | Intelligent desktop | Personalize your experience for simpler efficiency | Powerful security built-in and enabled.
- JOIN YOUR BUSINESS OR SCHOOL DOMAIN for easy access to network files, servers, and printers.
- OEM IS TO BE INSTALLED ON A NEW PC WITH NO PRIOR VERSION of Windows installed and cannot be transferred to another machine.
- OEM DOES NOT PROVIDE PRODUCT SUPPORT | To acquire product with Microsoft support, obtain the full packaged “Retail” version.
- Name: confirm you have selected the Mozilla Firefox entry, not a similarly named app.
- Language: pick the language build your users need. Firefox ships in many locales, and the catalog offers the set Microsoft has packaged.
- Architecture: match the package to the devices. Mozilla publishes Windows 64-bit and 32-bit EXE and MSI installers as well as ARM64 builds, but the catalog has its own package list. Do not assume every standalone Mozilla installer appears in the catalog.
- Version: select the version that fits your release-channel decision (covered below).
Package rows are not guaranteed to be identical in every tenant at every moment, so read the list in your own admin center rather than relying on a documentation screenshot or an article.
Keep the prepopulated configuration
Microsoft states that the catalog fills in the install and uninstall commands, install timing, uninstall availability, restart behavior, return codes, install context, requirements, and detection information. It recommends keeping this configuration unless there is a clear need to change it.
Replacing the commands or substituting a custom script can cause installation failures and can interfere with how the app installs and updates later. If you must change anything, test the change on a small group of devices first.

- Less chaos, more calm. The refreshed design of Windows 11 enables you to do what you want effortlessly.
- Biometric logins. Encrypted authentication. And, of course, advanced antivirus defenses. Everything you need, plus more, to protect you against the latest cyberthreats.
- Make the most of your screen space with snap layouts, desktops, and seamless redocking.
- Widgets makes staying up-to-date with the content you love and the news you care about, simple.
- Stay in touch with friends and family with Microsoft Teams, which can be seamlessly integrated into your taskbar. (1)
Choose the assignment intent
The assignment determines whether Firefox is pushed, offered, or removed. Microsoft documents three intents:
| Intent | What happens on devices | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Required | Intune installs Firefox on devices in the assigned groups. | For required catalog assignments, Microsoft documents automatic updates when a newer catalog version becomes available. |
| Available for enrolled devices | Users can install Firefox themselves through Company Portal. | Use this when installation should be user-initiated rather than enforced. |
| Uninstall | Intune removes Firefox from devices in the assigned groups. | Use this to retire the app from a group. |
Before you save, review the availability, notification, deadline, and delivery settings for the rollout, since these control how the assignment reaches users.
Standard Firefox or ESR
Mozilla’s enterprise administrator guide separates two release channels. The standard channel is the one most users see. Extended Support Release (ESR) is a long-term support channel for organizations that want fewer changes.
Rank #3
- Instantly productive. Simpler, more intuitive UI and effortless navigation. New features like snap layouts help you manage multiple tasks with ease.
- Smarter collaboration. Have effective online meetings. Share content and mute/unmute right from the taskbar (1) Stay focused with intelligent noise cancelling and background blur.(2)
- Reassuringly consistent. Have confidence that your applications will work. Familiar deployment and update tools. Accelerate adoption with expanded deployment policies.
- Powerful security. Safeguard data and access anywhere with hardware-based isolation, encryption, and malware protection built in.
| Channel | Release rhythm (per Mozilla) | Update model | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Firefox release | Major releases every two weeks | Frequent feature updates | Organizations that want new features sooner and can absorb frequent change |
| Firefox ESR | Branched once per year | Security and stability updates backported during the lifecycle | Organizations that prioritize stability and a slower compatibility cycle |
Choose based on your own update cadence, compatibility testing process, and tolerance for feature changes. Mozilla’s guidance is that the faster channel suits organizations seeking quicker feature delivery, while ESR suits those prioritizing stability. Whichever you pick, the channel is set by the catalog package you select in the workflow above.

Architecture and installer context
Mozilla’s administrator reference lists Windows EXE and MSI installers in 64-bit and 32-bit forms, plus ARM64 builds, and identifies Microsoft Intune as supporting MSI deployment, update management, and policy enforcement on Windows. Those are Mozilla’s installer options. The Intune catalog entry is a separate, Microsoft-maintained package, so its architecture and version options may be narrower than Mozilla’s full list.
If your fleet includes ARM64 devices, check that the catalog package you choose matches them. Mixed fleets may need a planning decision about which architecture to target, because a single catalog package will not necessarily cover every device type you manage.

Manage Firefox policies separately
Installing Firefox and configuring its behavior are two distinct steps. Mozilla documents policy deployment for Firefox, and its guide links to Intune guidance for configuring policies. Plan the policy rollout as its own workstream after the app is installed, so that a configuration error does not get mistaken for a failed installation.
Mozilla’s Firefox Enterprise Help page describes the enterprise support offering if your organization needs help with deployment or configuration.

Firefox does not appear in the catalog
- Confirm the tenant has the Enterprise App Management subscription alongside Intune Plan 1 or Plan 2.
- Search the Enterprise App Catalog directly in the admin center. Catalog contents change over time, so an older screenshot or article may not match what you see.
The package choices do not fit your devices
- Compare the listed language, architecture, and version options against the devices you plan to target.
- Check the target devices’ architecture before assigning. A 64-bit package will not suit a 32-bit device, and an ARM64 package requires ARM64 hardware.
Installation fails or behaves unexpectedly
- Check whether anyone replaced the Microsoft-provided install, uninstall, requirements, or detection settings. Restore the defaults and redeploy to a small test group.
- Check the assignment intent. A Required assignment is enforced, while Available depends on users installing from Company Portal.
Users cannot find Firefox in Company Portal
- Verify that the app was assigned with the Available intent to a group that includes the user’s enrolled device.
- Check the device’s enrollment status before troubleshooting the app itself.
The steps above follow Microsoft’s and Mozilla’s published documentation. They do not represent a tested deployment in any particular tenant, so validate each stage in your own environment before wide rollout.
