The process has two separate parts: installing the McMyAdmin control panel and installing a compatible Minecraft server runtime. On Unix-like systems, launch McMyAdmin from its own directory as a non-root user. Then use the web panel to select the server, accept Minecraft’s EULA, allocate memory, start the game server, and test locally before opening port 25565 to the internet.

Decide whether McMyAdmin is appropriate
McMyAdmin is a web-based control panel, not the Minecraft server itself. It manages files, settings, worlds, players, console commands and server processes, while the Minecraft server software still needs its own Java runtime and network configuration.
The official McMyAdmin site describes AMP as its successor and says, “Please use AMP for new installations.” That matters because McMyAdmin 2 no longer receives feature updates. A new public server should therefore begin with a current, supported control panel unless you are preserving a legacy installation, matching an old workflow or testing an existing configuration.

McMyAdmin remains documented for Windows, GNU/Linux, macOS and BSD. The installation method depends on the platform:
| Platform | McMyAdmin package | Runtime or prerequisite | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 64-bit Linux | Native 64-bit binary | Use the supplied Linux executable | Launch from the installation directory; normal operation should use a non-root account |
| 32-bit Linux | Mono package | Mono framework | No native build is provided |
| macOS | Mono package | Mono framework | No native build is provided |
| BSD | Mono package | Mono framework | No native build is provided |
| Windows | Installer or core archive | .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 | Windows XP and Server 2003 are unsupported |
The publisher also claims that more than 75,000 Minecraft servers and more than 35 service providers have used McMyAdmin. Those figures are marketing claims, and the page does not state their publication year, so they should not be treated as a current adoption measurement.

Prepare the machine before installing
- Choose the edition. The McMyAdmin workflow described here is for Minecraft Java Edition. Bedrock Dedicated Server follows a separate download and launch process.
- Confirm the operating system. Use a native 64-bit Linux build where possible, Mono on 32-bit Linux, macOS or BSD, or a supported Windows release.
- Plan user permissions. On Linux, macOS and BSD, use root only for system-wide preparation. Create or choose a dedicated account for McMyAdmin and the Minecraft process.
- Check Java separately. Minecraft’s official Java server documentation requires Java to be available from the command line. The Java version must match the Minecraft server release you deploy; do not assume one Java version works for every release.
- Reserve storage and memory. Leave room for world growth, logs, backups and temporary update files. Allocate only the memory the machine can spare after the operating system and panel are accounted for.
- Decide how players will connect. Test on the local network first. Internet players may require a host firewall rule and router port forwarding.
- Back up existing data. If this is a repair or migration, copy worlds, configuration files, permissions data and backups before replacing binaries.
Install McMyAdmin on 64-bit Linux
The official sequence uses a system download directory for shared dependencies, then installs McMyAdmin in the home directory of the account that will run it. The first two commands are run as root. The download, password setup and launch commands must be run as the non-root McMyAdmin user.
-
Open a root shell and download the required support archive into
/usr/local:cd /usr/local wget https://mcmyadmin.com/Downloads/etc.zip unzip etc.zip; rm etc.zip -
Leave the root shell, or switch to the dedicated non-root account. Create the installation directory and download the native package:
mkdir ~/McMyAdmin cd ~/McMyAdmin wget https://mcmyadmin.com/Downloads/MCMA2_glibc26_2.zip unzip MCMA2_glibc26_2.zip rm MCMA2_glibc26_2.zip -
Set the panel password and perform the initial configuration without starting the service:

Start McMyAdmin from its installation directory:
cd ~/McMyAdmin ./MCMA2_Linux_x86_64
McMyAdmin’s Linux instructions impose an unusual but important restriction: it must be launched while the current working directory is the installation directory. Do not start it by supplying a relative or absolute path from another directory. If a service manager or startup script is used later, set its working directory to /home/your-user/McMyAdmin (with the actual account path) before invoking the executable.
Keep ownership consistent. The account that runs McMyAdmin must be able to read and write its own directory, the selected Minecraft server files and the world data. Avoid solving permission errors by running the panel as root; that increases the impact of a compromised web panel or server plug-in.
Install McMyAdmin on 32-bit Linux, macOS or BSD
These platforms use the Mono framework because the official documentation provides no native McMyAdmin build for them. Install a compatible Mono package for the operating system first, then run the following commands as the account that will operate the server:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
mkdir ~/McMyAdmin
cd ~/McMyAdmin

unzip MCMA2-Latest.zip
rm MCMA2-Latest.zip
mono McMyAdmin.exe -setpass [YOURPASSWORD] -configonly
cd ~/McMyAdmin
mono McMyAdmin.exe
As with the native Linux build, the final launch must occur from ~/McMyAdmin. Confirm that the mono command is on the user’s PATH by running mono --version before starting the panel. If the shell reports that the command is missing, finish the Mono installation or correct the account’s environment rather than changing the McMyAdmin command.
Use the same separation of privileges as on Linux: root or an administrator account may install Mono, but the normal McMyAdmin process should use a dedicated, unprivileged account with ownership of the installation and server directories.
Install McMyAdmin on Windows
The legacy Windows installer supports Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 or newer. Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 are unsupported. McMyAdmin requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

Install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. On Windows Server, add the .NET 3.5 feature through Server Manager rather than assuming the desktop installer is present.
-
Run the McMyAdmin installer and choose a dedicated installation location with enough space for the panel, Minecraft server files, worlds, logs and backups.
-
On a normal Windows desktop or full server installation, use the installed launcher to set the panel password and start McMyAdmin. Follow the installer’s prompts for the service account and port.

Keep Windows Firewall enabled. Add narrowly scoped inbound rules only after you know which panel and Minecraft ports the installation is using. Administrative access should be restricted to trusted addresses whenever the environment allows it.
Complete the first McMyAdmin setup
Once the process is running, open the McMyAdmin web interface on the address and panel port shown by the installation. The exact panel port is configurable and is not the same thing as Minecraft’s player port. Sign in with the password created by -setpass or the Windows setup process.
Select or install the Minecraft server
Use the panel’s server-selection or server-installation screen to choose the Java Edition server variant and version you intend to run. Do not select a version solely because it is the newest entry: confirm that its Java requirement, mods or plug-ins and client compatibility match the players you support.

Provide Java to the server
McMyAdmin can manage the process, but Java still has to be installed and callable by the account running the server. On Windows, add the Java installation’s binary directory to the system or service account’s PATH when necessary. On Unix-like systems, verify Java from the same account and environment that launches McMyAdmin. A Java command that works in an interactive shell may fail in a service if the service receives a different PATH.
Accept the Minecraft EULA
The first server start normally creates the server files and stops until the EULA is accepted. Read Minecraft’s EULA, then use the panel’s prompt or edit the generated eula.txt as instructed by the server. Start again only after the file records your acceptance. Accepting the EULA is a legal requirement for running the server, not a McMyAdmin password or network setting.
Allocate memory deliberately
Set the server’s memory limits in McMyAdmin according to the machine’s available RAM, player count, world size and any mods or plug-ins. Leave headroom for the operating system, McMyAdmin, Java’s overhead and file cache. An allocation that consumes nearly all physical memory can cause swapping or an operating-system out-of-memory kill, while an allocation that is too small produces lag and repeated garbage collection. Increase memory in measured steps while watching the server log and system memory instead of selecting the largest possible value.
Start and verify the process
- Start the server from the McMyAdmin control page.
- Wait for the console to report that the world has loaded and the server is ready for connections.
- Connect from a Minecraft Java Edition client on the same machine or local network.
- Join the world, move around, open containers and execute a safe administrative command to confirm that console and player permissions work.
- Stop the server through the panel before changing files or rebooting the host.
Testing locally isolates Minecraft and Java problems from router and firewall problems. Do not expose the server to the public internet until this test succeeds.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Open the server to outside players
Minecraft’s official Java server guidance identifies firewall and port-forwarding as additional setup that may be required for outside players. The Java default game port is 25565, unless you deliberately change it in the server configuration.
- Identify the host’s local address. Give the server a stable local address or a DHCP reservation so a router rule does not break after a reboot.
- Allow the game port through the host firewall. Permit the chosen TCP port, and apply any UDP rule required by the specific server software or deployment. Keep the rule limited to the server process and intended network profile.
- Forward the game port on the router. Forward external port 25565, or your chosen alternative, to the server’s stable local address. Do not forward the McMyAdmin administration port to the whole internet unless there is no safer option.
- Test from outside the local network. Use a player on a different connection, such as a mobile hotspot. Testing from inside the same LAN can give a false result on routers without NAT loopback.
- Protect administration separately. Use a strong panel password, restrict source addresses where possible, and avoid sharing the panel URL and credentials with ordinary players.
Players connect to the Minecraft game port, not the McMyAdmin panel port. Keeping those functions separate makes firewall rules easier to audit and reduces the chance that a player-facing opening exposes the administration interface.
Java Edition and Bedrock are different deployments
The McMyAdmin procedure above concerns a Java Edition server. The Bedrock Dedicated Server is a separate product with its own downloads and configuration. Minecraft’s official Bedrock instructions direct administrators to download a Windows or Ubuntu/Linux ZIP, extract it into an empty folder, launch the supplied executable or command-line file and edit its configuration files.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Do not install a Bedrock ZIP and expect McMyAdmin’s Java server workflow to manage it automatically. Check whether the McMyAdmin version and any available integration explicitly support the Bedrock server you want; otherwise manage Bedrock with its documented executable and configuration process.
Recommended Free Tools
Operate a legacy McMyAdmin server safely
Backups
Back up worlds while the server is stopped or by using a snapshot method that guarantees a consistent world. Include configuration files, permissions, plug-in or mod directories and the McMyAdmin settings needed to recreate the service. Store at least one copy outside the server machine and periodically perform a restore test.
Updates
McMyAdmin 2 no longer receives feature updates, so treat its panel and dependencies as legacy components. Keep the operating system, Java runtime and Minecraft server on versions that are mutually compatible, but test each change on a copy of the world first. A Minecraft server update can require a newer Java release or invalidate plug-ins even when McMyAdmin itself starts normally.
Logs and resource monitoring
Review the McMyAdmin console and Minecraft server logs after every restart. Watch for Java startup errors, failed world conversions, repeated crashes, memory pressure and authentication failures. Record the server version, Java version and configuration whenever you make a change; that information shortens recovery when a legacy binary fails after an operating-system update.
Administrative access
Use a dedicated account, unique credentials and the smallest practical file permissions. Do not expose the panel unnecessarily, and do not reuse its password for the operating-system account, router or Minecraft operator account. If remote administration is required, prefer a private network or VPN and limit firewall sources rather than publishing the panel openly.
Troubleshoot the common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
./MCMA2_Linux_x86_64: No such file or directory or the executable exits immediately |
Wrong architecture, missing support files or launch from the wrong directory | Use the 64-bit package on a 64-bit system, complete the /usr/local preparation, and run the command after cd ~/McMyAdmin. |
| McMyAdmin refuses to start when called from a script | Working directory is not the installation directory | Set the service’s working directory to the McMyAdmin folder before invoking the executable. |
mono: command not found |
Mono is not installed or is absent from the service account’s PATH |
Install Mono for the operating system and verify mono --version as the same user that runs McMyAdmin. |
| Windows installer will not continue | Unsupported Windows release or missing .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 | Use Windows Vista/Server 2008 or newer and install .NET 3.5 SP1; on Server, add the feature through Server Manager. |
| Panel opens but Minecraft will not start | Java is missing, incompatible or unavailable to the service environment | Check the server release’s Java requirement and run Java from the McMyAdmin account or service environment. |
| Server stops immediately after first launch | EULA has not been accepted | Read the EULA and complete the panel’s acceptance step or update eula.txt as directed. |
| Local players can connect but internet players cannot | Firewall or router forwarding is incomplete | Verify the host rule, stable local address, router forwarding target and external test on the configured game port, normally 25565. |
| Players can reach the game but administrators cannot safely manage the panel | Panel and game networking were combined or the panel was exposed broadly | Use separate ports and firewall rules, restrict panel sources and keep administration on a private path where possible. |
McMyAdmin, AMP or managed hosting?
The right choice depends mainly on whether you are maintaining an existing installation or creating a new service.
| Decision factor | Legacy McMyAdmin | AMP | Managed Minecraft hosting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support status | Replaced in 2018; McMyAdmin 2 has no feature updates | Identified by the publisher as the successor for new installations | Provider maintains the control plane; support and versions depend on the provider |
| Operating-system work | You manage Windows/Linux/macOS/BSD prerequisites and permissions | You still manage the host unless purchased as a managed service | Provider normally manages the host operating system |
| Runtime work | You must provide compatible Java for the Minecraft server | You must verify the runtime required by each server | Provider often offers selectable runtimes, but compatibility remains your responsibility |
| Network administration | You configure firewall rules and router forwarding | You configure them on self-hosted deployments | Provider supplies an endpoint; custom firewall and network control may be limited |
| Control and migration | Full local access, but you own backups and recovery | Current platform and migration path from legacy McMyAdmin | Easier initial setup, with portability determined by export and backup policies |
For a new installation, the publisher’s own recommendation is to use AMP rather than McMyAdmin. For an existing McMyAdmin server, migration should be planned as a separate project: back up worlds and configuration, document Java and Minecraft versions, recreate the server in the replacement panel, test the copy, and switch player access only after the new instance is verified.
End-to-end launch checklist
- Confirm that maintaining legacy McMyAdmin is intentional; choose a supported successor for a new deployment.
- Identify Java Edition versus Bedrock and select the corresponding server software.
- Verify the operating system, architecture, .NET or Mono prerequisite and available storage and memory.
- Install McMyAdmin in its own directory and use a non-root account for normal Unix-like operation.
- Set a unique panel password with
-setpassor the Windows setup process. - Launch from the McMyAdmin directory, then open the web interface.
- Install or select the Minecraft server version and confirm its Java requirement.
- Accept the EULA, allocate conservative memory and start the server.
- Connect locally and verify world loading, console commands and operator permissions.
- Back up the working installation and document versions and settings.
- Configure the host firewall and, if required, forward the Minecraft game port (normally 25565) to a stable local address.
- Test from outside the LAN while keeping the administration panel restricted.
This sequence gives a predictable legacy deployment: McMyAdmin controls the process, Java runs the Java Edition server, and the firewall and router determine whether players outside your network can reach it. The software can still fulfill that role, but its discontinued update status should remain part of every maintenance and migration decision.
