Install LineageOS 24 only by following the current guide for your phone’s exact model and variant. LineageOS 24 is the project’s Android 17 release line. The project maintains a lineage-24.0 branch, and supported devices receive builds weekly or as changes are committed. That does not mean every Android phone can run it. The official device index states that phones not listed there are unsupported.

How to check whether your phone is supported
- In Android, open the device-information screen and record the manufacturer, marketed model and model number. Also check the label, retail box or manufacturer documentation if the number is unclear.
- Open the official LineageOS device list and search for that exact model and variant.
- Open the matching device page and verify that its current installation guide is for LineageOS 24.0. The page, rather than a search snippet or an older tutorial, controls every file and command.
- Read the page’s notes for required stock firmware, bootloader restrictions, supported regions, known quirks and any special upgrade route.
If the exact model is absent from the official list, do not substitute an unofficial build or another model’s files while treating it as a supported LineageOS installation. The official project does not establish support for unlisted phones.
Do you need to unlock the bootloader?
Most clean installations require an unlocked bootloader, but the unlock method and whether it is possible depend on the manufacturer and exact variant. Some carrier or region-specific models cannot be unlocked through the normal process. Your device page should identify the required unlock step, waiting period, authorization or warning screen.
Unlocking normally triggers a security wipe. Even if a particular phone allows another sequence, plan as though unlocking will erase user data and remove encryption keys. Do not begin until your backup is complete and you can restore essential accounts, photos, messages, authenticator codes and other irreplaceable files.

The official installation instructions tell you to read all steps first and not continue after a failure. This is especially important because the general workflow is not a universal recipe. Recovery image names, partition targets, controls, firmware baselines and hardware-key sequences vary by device.
An installation page for one supported phone can illustrate the project’s overall process, but its filenames, partitions and button combinations must not be copied to another model. Keep your own device page open and use only its downloads and instructions. If the page has separate sections for first-time installation, upgrades or returning from another operating system, choose the section that matches your situation.

Preparation checklist
Computer and connection
- Use a computer with working ADB and Fastboot tools, installed according to the operating system’s current instructions.
- Use a known-good, data-capable USB cable and a reliable computer port. A charge-only cable cannot transfer the required files.
- Keep a second cable or port available. If Fastboot hangs or produces no output, the official guidance suggests trying another cable or USB port and, on some devices, a USB hub.
- Allow enough local disk space for the LineageOS package, any optional package and your backup. Do not rename files unless the device guide explicitly permits it.
Phone preparation
- Charge the phone adequately and remove any case that could obstruct the buttons or cable.
- Boot the stock operating system and test core functions, including calls and SMS. Some devices need VoLTE or VoWiFi provisioned once while still on stock software.
- Record the exact model number, current software version and region. The device page may require a particular stock-firmware level before installation.
- Remove Google accounts as directed by the relevant installation guide. This helps prevent Factory Reset Protection from blocking setup after the wipe.
- Make and verify a complete backup before unlocking or formatting. Copy important files off the phone and confirm that the copies open on another device.
What a format can erase
A factory reset or “format data” operation removes encryption metadata and deletes files stored in internal storage. That includes photos, downloads, recordings and local app data that were not backed up. A microSD card, if present, should not be assumed safe: follow the device page’s warning about whether it is formatted or left untouched.
LineageOS is supplied as-is without warranty; installation is at your own risk. An incorrect image, incompatible firmware or interrupted flashing process can leave the phone unable to boot until it is recovered with the manufacturer’s tools.
The high-level installation workflow
The sequence below describes the common shape of an official installation, not a set of commands for every phone. Use your exact device page for the command text, filenames, partition names and key combinations.
1. Unlock using the device’s documented method
Enable the settings and developer options required by your device page, then enter the manufacturer’s bootloader or unlock mode. Confirm every warning before proceeding. The phone may reboot and wipe itself. If the unlock command fails, stop and resolve the model, account, authorization or firmware issue rather than trying random commands.
2. Enter the prescribed bootloader or recovery mode
Use the button sequence or ADB instruction listed for your model. Connect the phone to the computer and verify that the prescribed tool detects it. Detection in one mode does not prove that recovery or Fastboot will detect it; check again after each mode change.

3. Install or boot the specified Lineage Recovery
The device page will say whether to temporarily boot a recovery image or permanently flash it, and which partition receives it. Follow that distinction exactly. Recovery images are device-specific; never select a file merely because its name resembles your phone’s name.
4. Perform the required format or factory reset
For a clean installation, use the recovery menu and option named by the guide, commonly a format-data or factory-reset action. Read the confirmation carefully. This is the point at which remaining internal files can be deleted, so verify your backup before confirming.
5. Sideload the exact LineageOS package
In recovery, choose the documented “Apply Update” or “Apply from ADB” route. Start the computer-side sideload with the exact LineageOS 24.0 package for your model. Do not use a build for another variant, an older Android base or a package downloaded from an unverified mirror.
Some recovery screens and computer tools appear to stop near 47% while benign transfer messages are displayed. The official guidance notes that this can still represent a successful sideload on certain devices. Do not cancel solely because of that percentage; inspect the recovery result and follow your device page’s next step. A genuine failure message, checksum error or missing package is different—stop and investigate.
6. Install optional packages before the first boot
If you want Google Apps, install the compatible package from recovery immediately after the ROM and before the first boot into LineageOS. The order matters. Do not reboot into the new system between the ROM and the add-on steps.

7. Reboot only when the guide says the sequence is complete
Use the recovery’s reboot option specified by the device page. The first boot can take longer than a normal restart; one device guide says its first boot usually takes no more than 15 minutes, but that timing is device-specific and is not a guarantee for every phone. If the phone remains on the boot animation beyond the period stated on your page, return to the documented troubleshooting steps instead of repeatedly forcing restarts.
Clean install versus an upgrade
Do not assume that an existing LineageOS installation can be upgraded with the clean-install steps, or that a phone running another operating system can preserve data. The device page should identify the supported upgrade path, required firmware and whether a wipe is necessary.

Can you install Google Apps with LineageOS 24?
Yes, Google Apps are optional. LineageOS works without them, and the project’s Google Apps documentation says those packages are not supported by LineageOS. If you choose to install them, the LineageOS Wiki lists MindTheGapps packages for LineageOS 24 (Android 17) in ARM and ARM64 variants.
Architecture is not interchangeable. Use the architecture and download identified on your exact device page; do not infer it from the phone’s brand or from a package intended for another Android release. Install the package in recovery after the LineageOS package and before the first system boot.

If you skip Google Apps and boot LineageOS first, the Wiki warns that installing them later requires a factory reset. That reset deletes internal data, so decide before the initial reboot and keep the selected package on the computer.

What to expect after the first boot
The setup wizard will ask you to configure the phone as a new installation or restore whatever backups your chosen services support. Test mobile calls, SMS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cameras, biometric unlock, charging and any other functions important to you. A device page’s listed quirks may explain behavior that is normal for that model.
App compatibility is not guaranteed. Individual banking, streaming and other integrity-sensitive apps can exclude a device or require conditions outside LineageOS’s control. Installing the operating system does not promise that every app will pass its own security or certification checks.
LineageOS’s support requirements include enforcing SELinux, and supported devices must not ship with su included. Official support therefore should not be interpreted as a promise of bundled root access or compatibility with every root-dependent modification.

The official installation guidance says not to continue after a failed step. Preserve the exact error text, recovery screen and model number before seeking help; those details determine whether the issue is a cable problem, an unsupported variant, missing firmware or a damaged installation.

- Your exact manufacturer model, regional variant and model number appear on the official supported-device list.
- The device page is current for LineageOS 24.0 and identifies the required firmware, recovery and installation path.
- ADB and Fastboot work on your computer, and you have a reliable data cable and port.
- Your backup is complete and verified, and you understand that unlocking or format-data can erase internal storage.
- Google accounts have been removed if the guide directs you to do so, reducing Factory Reset Protection risk.
- You have decided whether to use Google Apps and selected only the architecture and package named for your device.
- You will stop at the first failure instead of substituting commands, images or firmware from another model.

There is no universal LineageOS 24 installation command set.
