A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11First check the platform and redemption instructions on the individual game’s Humble page: a Humble Choice title is not necessarily a Steam key. If it is a Steam key, redeem it in the Steam client, then install the game from your Steam library on the Deck. For a game installed outside Steam, Desktop Mode lets you add a shortcut, but that alone does not make the app or game compatible with SteamOS.
Check how the Humble Choice game is supplied
Open the game’s page in your Humble account and follow its current platform and claim instructions. The redemption option can differ by title, so check whether the game is offered as a Steam key or through another storefront or launcher before trying to install it. The available Humble instructions and platform options should be verified on that game’s page; do not assume every Choice title comes with a Steam key.

Redeem a Steam key and install the game
Activate the key
- Open the Steam client on a computer and sign in to the Steam account you use on your Steam Deck.
- Select + Add a Game in the lower-left corner of the client, then choose Activate a Product on Steam….
- Follow the prompts and enter the key when asked. Valve’s Retail CD Keys instructions describe this activation route.
Install it on the Deck
After activation, the game is in that Steam account’s library. Open the Deck’s library, select the game, and install it. An installed game can generally be played offline unless the game itself requires an internet connection, as Valve explains in its Steam Deck FAQ.

Steam Deck compatibility is assessed title by title. Valve uses four categories: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown. Ratings and the review process can change, so check the current listing and Valve’s Deck Verified information rather than treating a category as permanent.
#1 Best Overall
- International (UK) Version
- 7.4” diagonal, HDR OLED, 1280 x 800 x RGB, up to 90Hz Refresh rate, High performance touch, <0.1 ms Response time, 1,000 nits peak brightness (HDR), 600 nits (SDR)
- SteamOS 3.0 (Arch-based)
- 512GB NVMe SSD, 16GB LPDDR5 on-board RAM (5500 MT/s quad 32-bit channels), microSD UHS-I supports SD, SDXC and SDHC
- 6 nm AMD APU, CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32
- Verified: Valve’s review indicates the game meets its Deck compatibility criteria.
- Playable: The game works, but may need some adjustment, such as choosing controls or navigating a launcher.
- Unsupported: Valve’s current assessment indicates it does not work on Deck.
- Unknown: There is no current compatibility rating to rely on.
If a Steam library game needs troubleshooting, Valve’s Steam Deck Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide gives this route: select the game, open Properties > Compatibility, and choose a Steam Play compatibility tool. In the troubleshooting context described there, Valve recommends trying the latest Proton version. Proton lets SteamOS run many Windows games, but it does not guarantee that every title will work.
Add an installed non-Steam game from Desktop Mode
This route is for an application already installed on the Deck, such as a game installed through another launcher. Adding it to Steam creates a shortcut; it does not install the game or confirm that its installer, launcher, or game will run under SteamOS. Valve’s Desktop FAQ also notes that Discover Software Center can be used to install additional applications and that a physical keyboard and mouse may be needed in some situations.

- Press the Steam button, choose Power, then select Switch to Desktop.
- Open the desktop Steam client and choose Add a Game > Add a Non-Steam Game.
- Select the application that is already installed, then add it to Steam.
- Return to Gaming Mode and try the new library shortcut. If the app does not launch or behave as expected, check title-specific compatibility and configuration guidance; the shortcut itself is not a compatibility fix.
Valve’s FAQ says, “Yes, you can run non-Steam games through Proton.” That confirms general support for running non-Steam games through Proton, not that a particular Humble title or launcher will work without extra setup.

Choose the next step based on the title
| What the Humble page offers | Installation route | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Steam key | Activate the key in Steam, then install from the Deck library. | Check the game’s current Deck rating and any controls or compatibility-tool needs. |
| Another storefront or launcher | Follow that title’s claim and installation instructions. If the app is installed on the Deck, add it as a non-Steam game in Desktop Mode. | Confirm the launcher and game work on SteamOS; adding a shortcut does not establish compatibility. |
