On Windows 11, you can install Firefox from Mozilla’s website or through Microsoft Store. For the standard Mozilla route, download the installer, open it, approve the Windows prompts, then complete the Firefox welcome screen. If your PC is in S mode, you must switch out of S mode before either route will work.
Install Firefox from Mozilla’s website
This is the standard route. Mozilla’s installer downloads the best available version for your computer. The steps below follow Mozilla Support’s Windows installation guide, updated October 7, 2026.

Open Mozilla’s Firefox installation guide and select Get Firefox or Download Firefox to download the installer.

In Microsoft Edge, select Open file in the Downloads notification. In another browser, save the installer and open it from your downloads.

If Windows shows an Open File – Security Warning, choose Open or Run. If User Account Control asks whether the app can make changes to your device, select Yes.

Wait for installation to finish. On Firefox’s welcome page, review the Terms of Use and Privacy Notice, choose your diagnostic and interaction data preferences, then select Continue. Complete or skip the remaining setup steps.

If Firefox was installed on the computer before, the welcome page may show a Refresh Firefox… notice. It is not a required step for a new installation.
Install Firefox from Microsoft Store

Open Start, search for Microsoft Store, and launch it.

Search for Firefox, select Mozilla Firefox, then choose Get.

After installation, launch Firefox from the Store page or Start menu.

Mozilla says its Store installation route is available on Windows 10 and Windows 11. The Store version receives updates through Microsoft Store. See Mozilla’s Microsoft Store installation guidance for details.

Choose the route that fits your setup

The separate-profile detail matters if you already use Firefox: the Store installation will not simply share the profile from a Mozilla-installed copy. Mozilla explains the distinction in its Store download guide.
If Windows 11 is in S mode
Firefox cannot be installed from Mozilla’s website or Microsoft Store while Windows is in S mode. Downloading the installer again will not bypass the restriction. First follow Microsoft’s instructions for switching out of S mode, linked from Mozilla Support, then try one of the installation routes above.
When to use the offline or custom installer
Most beginners do not need this option. Mozilla’s custom installation guide covers the full offline installer, which is useful if you need to download Firefox for offline setup or choose where it is installed and which shortcuts are created. The simplified online installer does not offer those folder and shortcut choices. Mozilla recommends 64-bit Firefox on 64-bit Windows.
