Install Bjarnheim through ARK: Survival Ascended’s CurseForge mod system. Use CurseForge Project ID 1376189, set the startup map to Bjarnheim_WP, and restart the server. On a managed host, enter the ID in the panel’s Mods or Mod ID field. On a self-managed server, add it to the comma-separated -mods= launch option, keeping Bjarnheim first when other mods are installed.

Before you install
Confirm that you are configuring an ARK: Survival Ascended server. ASA and ARK: Survival Evolved use different mod delivery systems, identifiers, and installation instructions. Bjarnheim is an ASA CurseForge project; an ASE Steam Workshop ID will not install it.
Plan a maintenance window for the first start. The server may spend additional time downloading and validating the package, and players cannot use the instance while you are changing the map. Record the current map, active mod IDs, and launch settings before editing them. A saved copy gives you a straightforward rollback if a new ID or an update causes a crash.
Also verify that you can see the server console or log. A panel’s saved mod list only proves that the setting was stored; the startup log is what confirms that the server actually downloaded and initialized Bjarnheim.
Check the map’s dependencies before installing
Bjarnheim uses assets from several other official maps. The project page says these maps must be installed on the server:
- Ragnarok
- Valguero
- Scorched Earth
- Extinction
- Aberration
- Lost Colony
- Genesis 1
Install or enable those dependencies through the same server-management system you use for your ASA maps. If a host reports missing content, verify every dependency rather than repeatedly reinstalling Bjarnheim. A dependency can be present in your game library yet unavailable to the server instance, so check the server’s own installed-content or map list.
Do not treat the dependency list as a request to run one of those maps instead. You can still launch Bjarnheim; the additional maps supply assets that the project references. If you later remove one of the seven required maps, an otherwise unchanged Bjarnheim configuration may stop loading.

Install Bjarnheim on a managed server
Panel names differ between providers, but the sequence is generally the same. The panel downloads the CurseForge package when the server starts.
- Stop the server. Use the panel’s Stop, Shutdown, or power control before changing the mod list. This prevents the running process from retaining the old configuration while you edit it.
- Open the mod configuration. Look for a page or field named Mods, Mod IDs, CurseForge Mods, or Startup Parameters. The exact label is provider-specific.
- Add the project. Search for Bjarnheim or enter
1376189. Select the result that identifies Bjarnheim as an ARK: Survival Ascended map. - Save the list. Confirm that
1376189remains in the saved configuration after leaving the page. Some panels require an Apply, Save, or Install button in addition to adding the ID. - Set the map. In the map or startup-map control, enter
Bjarnheim_WP. Adding the mod without changing the map will leave the server running its previous map. - Verify dependencies. Confirm that Ragnarok, Valguero, Scorched Earth, Extinction, Aberration, Lost Colony, and Genesis 1 are installed or available to the server.
- Start or restart. Start the server and allow the first launch to finish. The initial start after an install or update can take longer while the server downloads and validates the package.
- Read the console or log. Look for a completed mod download and a normal map initialization. A panel showing the ID in a list is not proof that the server has loaded it; the restart is what applies the change.
If the panel has separate “active mods” and “available mods” lists, move Bjarnheim into the active list before saving. If it offers a map picker and a custom-map text field, use the custom value Bjarnheim_WP rather than the display name alone.

After the first successful boot, note how the panel handles scheduled restarts and updates. Because ASA fetches mod updates during startup, a schedule that never restarts the instance will leave the running server on its previous package even if the panel displays a newer version.
Install Bjarnheim on a self-managed server
Self-managed installation requires access to the server’s launch script or service definition. ASA uses CurseForge IDs, not the Steam Workshop IDs used by ARK: Survival Evolved.
Add the project ID to the launch options
Find the existing comma-separated -mods= argument and add 1376189. For a server with no other mods, the relevant option is:
-mods=1376189
When other mods are present, keep Bjarnheim first because ASA reads mod order as load order and maps or total conversions belong at the beginning. For example:
-mods=1376189,246801,975310
The other numbers in that example are only placeholders for your already-selected CurseForge projects; replace them with your real IDs. Do not add spaces inside the comma-separated value unless your server wrapper specifically documents that syntax. Preserve the IDs you already use, remove accidental duplicates, and make sure the option is passed to the process that actually starts ASA.

Use the map field supplied by your service, batch file, container definition, or command-line wrapper. Do not use “Bjarnheim,” the CurseForge project ID, or an ARK: Survival Evolved workshop map name as the map value.
Restart and watch the first boot
- Save the launch configuration.
- Stop any running server process cleanly.
- Start it with
Bjarnheim_WPas the map and-mods=1376189(with Bjarnheim first if the list is longer). - Wait for the server to download and validate the mod before judging the result. The first restart after an install or update is normally the slowest.
- Keep the console output and server log available in case the process exits or stalls during initialization.
If you run the server as a Windows service, scheduled task, container, or wrapper, edit the configuration that actually launches the process. Changing a text file that the service does not read will have no effect. When troubleshooting, copy the complete effective command line from the service or wrapper rather than relying on a separate script you assume is active.
What players need to do
Players should connect using the normal ARK: Survival Ascended server browser or direct connection flow. When the server requires Bjarnheim or another missing server mod, ASA prompts the player to download it. Players do not need a Steam Workshop subscription, and they should not copy the Windows server ZIP into their local game folder.
- Allow the download to finish before reconnecting.
- Keep the game updated to a build compatible with the server.
- If a player previously has a damaged or incomplete client mod download, retry after restarting the game and accepting the server’s download prompt.
- Console users must also pass the crossplay check described below; a PC-only mod elsewhere in the list can block them even when Bjarnheim itself is installed correctly.
Give players the exact map name and server restart window when you announce the change. They do not need to install the server package manually, but they may have to wait for the client-side download before the join button becomes usable.

Load order, updates, and first-start timing
Why Bjarnheim goes first
ASA interprets the order in -mods= as load order. The documented guidance is to put maps and total conversions first. Place 1376189 before item, creature, building, or quality-of-life mods unless a specific mod author documents a different requirement.
What happens during an update
The server downloads new mods and mod updates when it starts, so a restart is what brings an update into the running instance. A panel may show a new version before the active process has loaded it; restart after every install or update. Allow extra time on that boot and avoid killing the process while the download or validation is still progressing.
Do not confuse the server ZIP with a manual client install
The project currently lists bjarnheim-windowsserver 228.zip, released September 26, 2026. On a managed host, the panel normally handles the package download. On a self-managed installation, follow the server platform’s documented CurseForge download process rather than unpacking a server archive into an arbitrary client directory. The filename is a project release artifact, not a replacement for the 1376189 mod entry and Bjarnheim_WP map setting.
Fix the most common installation failures
The mod is listed, but the server is still on the old map
Adding an ID does not switch maps. Confirm that the startup map is exactly Bjarnheim_WP, save the setting, and restart. If the server returns to its previous map, inspect the actual launch command or service definition rather than only the panel’s display page. A stale startup profile, an unsaved custom-map field, or a wrapper that overwrites the panel value can all leave the old map in effect.

The server crashes after Bjarnheim is added
- Stop the server.
- Remove the last mod you added and restart.
- If you added several IDs, restore them one at a time, restarting between changes.
- Check the log for the first failing package or a missing dependency.
- Confirm that all seven required maps are installed or enabled.
This isolation method distinguishes a Bjarnheim problem from an incompatible mod-order or dependency problem without permanently discarding the rest of your configuration. Keep a copy of the known-good ID list so that each test changes only one variable.
The download or update fails
Use the host’s clean-mods-folder or equivalent cache-reset option. If you manage the server yourself, stop the process, remove the cached copy of the affected mod according to your server’s directory layout, and start again so CurseForge content is fetched afresh. Do not delete unrelated save data while clearing a mod cache. If the second download fails in the same place, preserve the log and compare the reported project ID and version rather than repeatedly clearing the same files.
The failure began after an ARK patch
A game update can require an author update before a mod works with the new server build. Record the ARK build, Bjarnheim version, and the first relevant log error, then check the project’s current status. Reinstalling the same cached package will not solve a compatibility break that needs an author release. Avoid rolling out the update to a populated server until you have tested the new combination or confirmed that the author has addressed it.
Console players cannot join
Check every mod in the server’s list for crossplay approval. One PC-only mod can prevent console players from joining, even if the map itself appears to load for PC clients. Temporarily test with Bjarnheim and the required content only, then add other mods back in a controlled order. This also helps identify which additional mod changed the crossplay result.

Bjarnheim’s current scope and limitations
The project describes Bjarnheim as a Nordic-inspired fantasy map with a 144 km² landscape and a random Fimbulwinter weather event. The current project-page completion figures are Surface: 50% and Artifact Caves: 3/9 artifacts available. Treat those figures as the project’s stated status, not as a guarantee that every area or artifact will remain unchanged in later releases.
| Feature or status | Current project information | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Landscape | 144 km² | Expect a large exploration area; this figure does not establish a hardware requirement. |
| Weather | Random Fimbulwinter event | Weather events can occur unpredictably during play. |
| Surface completion | 50% | Some surface content is still listed as incomplete. |
| Artifact caves | 3 of 9 artifacts available | Only three artifacts are currently listed as available. |
| Cave cryopods | Not functional | Plan cave expeditions without relying on cryopod use. |
| Minimap | Not available | Players need other navigation methods. |
| TEK Armor | Not functional | Do not plan progression around working TEK Armor on this map. |
| Drakeling Chests and Treasure Maps | Not functional | These systems cannot currently be used as intended. |
Managed hosting versus self-hosting
Both approaches use the same project ID and map name. The difference is who operates the launch configuration, downloads, backups, and recovery process.
| Decision point | Managed panel | Self-managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Startup parameters and files | Usually abstracted behind fields and controls; less direct file access | Full control over launch scripts, services, and files |
| Adding or reordering CurseForge IDs | Search or paste IDs, then save the list | Edit the comma-separated -mods= option manually |
| Downloads and updates | Panel downloads on restart | You operate the download, cache, and restart routine |
| Backups and rollback | May be built into the provider; verify retention and restore controls | You must design and test your own backup and rollback process |
| Console crossplay controls | May expose compatibility settings or support checks | You must inspect every mod and test the full list |
| Logs | Usually available in a web console or log viewer | Available directly, but you are responsible for retention and access |
| Restart scheduling | Often provided as a panel feature | Requires your own scheduler or service configuration |
| Support | Provider support can help with panel and host issues | You troubleshoot the operating system, server process, network, and mods |
A managed panel is the simpler route for most server owners who want searchable CurseForge IDs, repeatable restarts, and a central log viewer. Self-hosting is appropriate when you need direct control of startup parameters and files and are prepared to maintain updates, backups, and compatibility testing yourself.
An optional managed-hosting route
If you do not want to administer the operating system, compare ARK: Survival Ascended hosts that provide a CurseForge search or numeric mod-ID field, restart controls, backups, and accessible logs. Survival Servers, Nitrado, GPORTAL, and comparable providers are examples of categories to evaluate, not endorsements. Prices, slot plans, storage, support response, and crossplay features vary by provider and can change; there is no Bjarnheim-specific fee established here. Verify current pricing, refund terms, backup retention, and any affiliate terms before purchasing or publishing a tracked link. Bjarnheim itself should not be presented as having an affiliate program.
A verification checklist before inviting players
- The server is ARK: Survival Ascended, not ARK: Survival Evolved.
- CurseForge Project ID
1376189is in the active mod list. - The startup map is exactly
Bjarnheim_WP. - Ragnarok, Valguero, Scorched Earth, Extinction, Aberration, Lost Colony, and Genesis 1 are installed or enabled.
- Bjarnheim is first in the mod order when other mods are present.
- The server has been restarted after adding or updating the mod.
- The first-start log shows the download and map initialization completing.
- Every additional mod is approved for the crossplay audience you intend to support.
- Players know that ASA will prompt them to download missing server mods.
- You have recorded the current mod list and saved a backup before making further changes.
Bottom line
For a managed server, add CurseForge ID 1376189, set the map to Bjarnheim_WP, verify the seven required map dependencies, save, and restart. For a self-managed server, use the same map name and add 1376189 first in -mods=. If it does not appear, check the map field and restart before attempting a reinstall.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Bjarnheim mod ID for ARK: Survival Ascended?
The CurseForge Project ID is 1376189. Enter that number in a host panel or in the server’s comma-separated -mods= launch option.
What map name should I use to launch Bjarnheim?
Use Bjarnheim_WP in the server’s map or startup-map field. The display name Bjarnheim and the numeric project ID are not valid substitutes.
Do I install Bjarnheim from Steam Workshop?
No. Bjarnheim is an ARK: Survival Ascended CurseForge mod. Steam Workshop instructions apply to ARK: Survival Evolved and do not install this map.
Why is Bjarnheim in my mod list but the old map still loads?
Adding the mod does not change the map. Set the startup map to Bjarnheim_WP, save the setting, and restart. Check the effective service or launch command if the old map returns.
Which maps must be installed for Bjarnheim?
The project lists Ragnarok, Valguero, Scorched Earth, Extinction, Aberration, Lost Colony, and Genesis 1 as required installed content.
How long does the first Bjarnheim startup take?
The first start after installation or an update can take longer while the server downloads and validates the package. Wait for the console or log to finish before treating the delay as a failure.
What should I do if the server crashes after adding Bjarnheim?
Remove the last mod added, restart, and then restore multiple IDs one at a time. Check the first log error and verify all seven required maps are installed.
How do I repair a failed mod download?
Use the host’s clean-mods-folder or cache-reset option, or remove the affected cached mod on a self-managed server after stopping the process. Start again so CurseForge fetches a fresh copy, without deleting save data.

They can only join when every mod in the active list is approved for crossplay. A separate PC-only mod can block console users even when Bjarnheim itself loads.
Are there Bjarnheim gameplay limitations I should announce?
Yes. The project currently notes that cryopods do not function in caves, there is no minimap, TEK Armor is not functional, and Drakeling Chests and Treasure Maps are not functional.
Does the 144 km² map size specify RAM or CPU needs?
No. The project’s area figure does not establish hardware, storage, port, or native-Linux requirements. Obtain those values from your chosen host or current ARK server documentation.
The Bottom Line
Use CurseForge Project ID 1376189 and launch map Bjarnheim_WP. Install the seven listed map dependencies, put Bjarnheim first in -mods= when applicable, and restart so ASA can download and validate it. If the map does not load, verify the effective startup command and dependencies before clearing the mod cache.
