WorldEdit runs on Minecraft Java Edition servers. Install the build that matches both your Minecraft version and your server platform: Paper, Spigot, or Bukkit uses a plugin in plugins, while NeoForge, Fabric, and Sponge use a mod in mods. After the files load, configure permissions, obtain the selection wand, test a small region, and keep //undo ready.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Minecraft Java servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
It does not run on Realms, Bedrock Edition, Pocket Edition, or the separate Windows 10 Edition. EngineHub describes it as “an easy-to-use in-game Minecraft map editor.”

The project distribution page currently lists WorldEdit 7.4.x builds for the 26.x Minecraft release line. Those listings change as Minecraft releases change, so check the distribution page immediately before downloading. A CurseForge page reviewed on October 14, 2026, displayed 66,180,742 downloads; that number is a page snapshot, not a guarantee of compatibility with your server.

What you need before installation
- A running Minecraft Java Edition server, or a Minecraft Java server-hosting account with access to its files and console.
- The exact Minecraft version shown by the server, including the release line used by its loader.
- The matching WorldEdit build for the server platform.
- A recent server backup before making large edits.
- Console or file access to restart the server and read startup errors.
WorldEdit is not a client-only utility. Players connect with the normal Java Edition client; the server performs the edits. A client-side selection-lines mod can improve visual feedback, but it is optional.
Install WorldEdit on Paper, Spigot, or Bukkit
1. Confirm the server platform and version
Open the server console or startup information and record the Minecraft version and whether the server is Paper, Spigot, or another Bukkit implementation. Paper is the practical default for a mostly vanilla server, but use the platform already required by your plugins rather than changing platforms solely for WorldEdit.
2. Download the matching plugin
Choose the WorldEdit plugin build whose Minecraft version and Bukkit-family platform match your server. A plugin build is not interchangeable with a Fabric, NeoForge, or Sponge mod build.
3. Copy the file to plugins
Stop the server, place the downloaded WorldEdit .jar in the server’s plugins folder, and start the server again. Do not unzip the file or put it in mods.
4. Read the startup log
Look for WorldEdit’s load message and any dependency, version, or Java errors. If the server reports that the plugin could not be enabled, stop and correct that error before giving players access. A successful file copy without a successful load does not complete the installation.
Install WorldEdit on NeoForge
1. Set up NeoForge first
Install and start the NeoForge server that will host the world. Verify that the server’s other mods load correctly before adding WorldEdit.
2. Select the matching NeoForge mod build
Use a WorldEdit mod build that names both your Minecraft version and NeoForge compatibility. A Bukkit plugin will not load as a NeoForge mod.
3. Place the mod in mods and start
Stop the server, copy the WorldEdit mod file into mods, and start NeoForge. Check the log for a successful mod load and resolve any dependency or version mismatch before connecting.
Install WorldEdit on Fabric
1. Set up Fabric and check the Minecraft release
Install the Fabric server for the same Minecraft version as the WorldEdit build. The WorldEdit documentation specifies Fabric API for Minecraft 1.14.x; it says Fabric API is not required for 1.15 and later according to that guide. Follow the dependency information for the exact release you are installing.
2. Copy the Fabric mod to mods
Stop the server, place the matching WorldEdit Fabric mod in mods, then start the server. Never put a Bukkit plugin in this folder.

Fabric will identify missing dependencies or incompatible versions during startup. Fix those messages first; a server that starts without loading WorldEdit will not recognize its commands.
Install WorldEdit on Sponge
Install Sponge for the Minecraft version in use, download the compatible WorldEdit Sponge file, place it in mods, and start the server. Use Sponge’s permission system after the mod loads. Keep Sponge’s loader and WorldEdit versions aligned; a file intended for Bukkit, Fabric, or NeoForge is not a substitute.
Grant permission to use WorldEdit
WorldEdit is permission-gated by default. Installing the file does not automatically make every player an editor.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
/op yourname
Reconnect or retry the command after the operator status is applied. On Bukkit-family servers, this is useful for confirming that WorldEdit itself works before configuring a more selective permission scheme.
For moderators and ordinary players
Use a permissions plugin on Bukkit-family servers and grant only the WorldEdit nodes your staff require. The worldedit.* node grants full WorldEdit access, so reserve it for trusted administrators; it is broader than a normal builder’s needs.
NeoForge and Fabric servers normally allow operators to use WorldEdit, with additional permission integration available on supported versions. Sponge uses Sponge’s permission system. The exact node names and integration capabilities depend on the permission system and WorldEdit version, so configure them from the documentation for those installed versions rather than copying a node list from a different platform.
Make your first safe edit
Test in a small, disposable area before editing a build or terrain. Large selections can change thousands of blocks in one command.

1. Obtain the selection wand
Run:
//wand
WorldEdit gives you a wooden axe. This axe is a selection tool in WorldEdit; it does not need to be used as a normal weapon.
2. Select two corners
- Hold the wooden axe.
- Left-click the block at the first corner.
- Right-click the block at the opposite corner.
You can select without the wand as well:
//pos1sets the first position at your current location.//pos2sets the second position at your current location.//hpos1and//hpos2set positions on the block you are targeting.
For a first test, select a small cuboid that contains only blocks you are willing to replace.
3. Fill or clear the selection
Use one of these small test commands:
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
//set stone |
Fills the selection with stone. |
//set air |
Clears the selection by replacing it with air. |
//set sandstone,glass |
Uses a mixed sandstone-and-glass pattern in the selection. |
//replace sandstone dirt |
Changes matching sandstone blocks to dirt while leaving other block types alone. |
Use the replace form when you want to preserve most of an area. A set command affects the entire selected region.

- Now Minecraft lovers can play a special version of UNO!
- Same as Basic UNO but features Minecraft characters and includes special Creeper rule card. Draw this card and the other players have to draw three more cards from the pile!
- The goal is to get rid of all the cards in your hand.
- First player or team to 500 wins.
- When you're down to one card, don't forget to yell "UNO"!
4. Adjust and repeat a selection
Change the selection with commands such as:
//expand 10 up
//expand 5
Then repeat a structure in the direction you face with:
//stack 4
Inspect the selection after each adjustment. A small mistake in a selection can multiply quickly when stacking.
5. Undo immediately when necessary
If an edit is wrong, run:
//undo
Keep the edit history available and make changes in manageable groups. Do not continue issuing commands after a mistake if you may need to identify the exact operation to reverse.
Useful movement and selection-display commands
| Command or feature | Use |
|---|---|
/jumpto |
Move to the block or location you are targeting. |
/ascend |
Move upward through a space. |
/descend |
Move downward through a space. |
/thru |
Move through an obstruction. |
//drawsel |
Show a limited server-side outline for qualifying cuboid selections in creative mode. |
//drawsel does not provide an outline for every selection or game mode. If you need persistent client-side selection lines, a compatible client-side selection-lines mod is another option.
Configure limits and behavior safely
WorldEdit exposes change-limit settings so administrators can control how much a single operation can modify. The relevant settings include defaultChangeLimit and maxChangeLimit. Set limits appropriate to the server’s hardware, player count, and trust model instead of allowing unrestricted edits by default.
Use the configuration path for your platform
| Platform | Configuration file |
|---|---|
| Bukkit-family server | plugins/WorldEdit/config.yml |
| NeoForge or Fabric | config/worldedit/worldedit.properties |
| Sponge | config/worldedit/worldedit.conf |
Back up the file before editing it and restart the server when the configuration requires a reload. Bukkit YAML is indentation-sensitive: use four spaces as specified by the documentation, and do not use tabs. A tab can make the entire configuration invalid or cause settings to be ignored.
Watch for physics-heavy blocks
WorldEdit warns that some blocks with disallowed physics behavior can lag or crash a server when spawned in large quantities. Treat gravity-affected or otherwise physics-intensive materials as a special case: test a small amount, monitor the server, and avoid mass placement unless you understand the consequences.

Why players still cannot use WorldEdit
The command is unknown
Check the startup log to confirm that the correct file loaded. Then verify that the downloaded build matches the Minecraft version and server platform. A Bukkit plugin in a mods folder, or a Fabric/NeoForge mod in plugins, will not provide the expected commands.
The administrator can use it, but a player cannot
This is usually a permission issue. Confirm the player’s operator status or review the permissions plugin assignment. Grant the smallest appropriate set of WorldEdit permissions; use worldedit.* only when full access is intentional.
The wooden axe does nothing
Run //wand again and check that the player has WorldEdit permission. Alternatively set positions with //pos1 and //pos2, or target blocks with //hpos1 and //hpos2. These commands also help determine whether the problem is the tool interaction or the permission setup.
The server fails during startup
Read the first WorldEdit-related error rather than repeatedly restarting. Replace the file with the build matching the server’s Minecraft version and loader, install any dependency identified for that release, and make sure only the appropriate plugin or mod is present. Do not mix multiple platform builds.
The selection outline is missing
Selection outlines are not guaranteed in every client and mode. Test the selection with //pos1, //pos2, and a small edit; use //drawsel only where its creative-mode and cuboid-selection conditions apply. A compatible client-side selection-lines mod can provide visual assistance.

Stop issuing commands, use //undo if the server remains responsive, and restore a backup if necessary. Reduce the selected area, lower the configured change limits, and avoid mass placement of blocks that trigger physics. Test the same operation on a small region before trying again.
Choosing a server platform for WorldEdit
WorldEdit itself does not determine the best server platform. Choose based on the software already running your world.
| Decision factor | Paper/Spigot/Bukkit | NeoForge/Fabric | Sponge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Packaging | Plugin in plugins |
Mod in mods |
Compatible mod in mods |
| Existing software | Best for Bukkit-family plugins | Best when the server’s mods use the same loader | Best for an existing Sponge server |
| Permissions | Operator status or a permissions plugin | Normally operators; supported integrations may add finer control | Sponge permissions |
| Client requirements | Java Edition client; optional selection-lines utility | Java Edition client; follow any loader-specific client requirements | Java Edition client; follow the server’s Sponge setup |
| Operational complexity | Usually the simplest path for a mostly vanilla server | Requires loader and mod-version coordination | Requires Sponge-compatible files and permissions |
Do not switch a live server’s loader casually. A platform change can affect every installed plugin or mod, not just WorldEdit.
Quick Recap
A repeatable operating checklist
- Confirm that the world is running on Minecraft Java Edition, not Realms or a Bedrock-based edition.
- Record the exact Minecraft version and server platform.
- Download the matching WorldEdit plugin or mod.
- Place it in
pluginsfor Paper/Spigot/Bukkit, ormodsfor NeoForge, Fabric, and Sponge. - Restart and inspect the server log for a successful load.
- Grant operator status for a controlled test, or configure a narrowly scoped permission role.
- Run
//wand, select a small region, and test//set stoneor another reversible edit. - Keep
//undoavailable and create backups before large operations. - Configure
defaultChangeLimitandmaxChangeLimitfor the server’s capacity. - Expand the selection size only after the small test behaves as expected.
