Google’s Gemini app for Windows is available from gemini.google/desktop. Download and run GeminiSetup.exe, open Gemini from the Start menu, and sign in. Once it is installed, press Alt + Space to bring it up quickly.
What you need before installing Gemini
- Windows 10 or later
- At least 8 GB of RAM
- At least 200 MB of available disk space
- A stable internet connection
- A personal Google Account, or a work or school account whose administrator has enabled Gemini

How to install the Gemini app on Windows
- On your Windows PC, go to gemini.google/desktop.
- Download and save
GeminiSetup.exe. - Open the downloaded installer and follow its on-screen instructions.
- When setup finishes, open Gemini from the Windows Start menu.
- Sign in with an eligible Google Account.
How to open Gemini with Alt + Space
From the Windows desktop, press Alt + Space to open Gemini quickly. Google documents this shortcut in its Windows app help and its September 10, 2026 launch announcement.

The separate Google app for desktop is a Search app that also uses Alt + Space. What you can do in Gemini for Windows
Everyday help and writing
Google says you can ask questions, brainstorm, develop ideas, and draft outlines or complete content. You can also use the app to summarize articles, documents, and web pages.
Coding and image analysis
The app can assist with coding and analyze images that you upload. These uses are described on Google’s Windows app help page.

Google apps and additional creation features
Google’s launch announcement describes a desktop workspace with access to Google apps such as Gmail and Drive, along with image creation using Nano Banana and video creation using Gemini Omni. The announcement says access to Gemini Spark and Gemini Omni requires a Google AI subscription, and that availability varies. These features should not be treated as included for every account or available in every location.

Gemini for Windows and the Google app for desktop are different
Gemini for Windows is Google’s AI assistant app. The Google app for desktop is a separate Search product. Although both products document Alt + Space, their features are not interchangeable. If you are trying to use a specific capability, verify that you are opening the intended app rather than relying on the shared shortcut.
