Before you install: check your edition and entitlement
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement lists PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. It describes a free upgrade for eligible existing owners and also lists Battle.net and Microsoft Store purchase options. The Remastered FAQ covers additional platforms, but the steps here are for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

A free upgrade is not a universal new license. Use the account or product page for the platform where you intend to play to confirm that you own, or can access, the Remastered version. A cross-progression account does not replace the platform license needed to install and play the game.

How do I install The Witcher 3 on PC?
CD PROJEKT RED lists GOG, Steam, and Epic Games Store for eligible existing-owner upgrades, and Battle.net and Microsoft Store as purchase options for Remastered. There is no single official click-by-click sequence covering every launcher, so the general process is to use the storefront tied to your entitlement:
- Sign in to the storefront account that owns the game or is eligible for the upgrade.
- Find The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered in your library or the storefront, and verify the edition shown is the one you intend to install.
- Choose install, select a drive with enough free space, and let the storefront complete the download and any update.
- Launch the game from that storefront.
Before downloading, check the current PC requirements. CD PROJEKT RED says Windows 10 is no longer officially supported and an SSD is required for the current technical enhancements. Performance depends on hardware, resolution, and graphics settings; do not use older requirements as a guide to the Remastered edition without checking their version and date.
If the PC install is broken
A clean reinstall is a troubleshooting step, not the normal first-install procedure. CD PROJEKT RED’s PC clean-install instructions call for backing up saves, disabling cloud saves, uninstalling the game, removing the specified client and Documents folders, restarting, reinstalling without mods, and restoring saves afterward if needed. Follow that support guide for the exact folders and sequence; deleting the wrong files can remove data you meant to keep.

- Sign in to the PlayStation account associated with your game or eligible upgrade.
- Open the PlayStation Store or your library, locate the game, and check that the product page identifies the PS5 version and the entitlement available to your account.
- Download it, then launch it from the console library when installation finishes.
CD PROJEKT RED confirms PS5 support, but its reviewed official materials do not provide a current screen-by-screen PS5 install walkthrough or settle every disc-owner upgrade case. Confirm the edition and entitlement shown for your own account or disc before downloading; do not assume every PS4 disc or digital purchase grants the same upgrade.
Move a PS4 save to PS5
CD PROJEKT RED’s save-transfer guide describes linking the PS4 game to a CD PROJEKT RED account through My Rewards, creating a save that uploads to the cloud, then launching the PS5 version, linking the same account, and loading the uploaded save. The Remastered FAQ is newer than that guide, so check current in-game labels and patch requirements rather than treating older numbered instructions as guaranteed to be unchanged.

How do I install The Witcher 3 on Xbox Series X|S?
- Sign in to the Microsoft account holding your game license or eligible upgrade.
- Open the Microsoft Store or console library, locate the game, and verify that the product page shows the Series X|S version and the entitlement available to you.
- Install the game and launch it from your library after the download completes.
The release announcement identifies Xbox Series X|S as supported and lists the game through Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. However, the reviewed official pages do not resolve every Xbox One, Series X|S, disc, and digital-license combination. Check the product page on your console for the version and entitlement attached to your account or disc.

Yes. CD PROJEKT RED says existing saves are compatible with Remastered, but the skill-system overhaul resets skills. For moving a save between platforms, the publisher’s cross-progression instructions require an updated game, account linking, and a newly created save for cloud upload:
- Update the game to the latest patch on the source platform.
- Open Load Game and select Cross Progression.
- Connect the game to a CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Create a new save so it uploads to the cloud.
- On the destination platform, open My Rewards, connect the same account, and load the uploaded save.
CD PROJEKT RED says, “Your latest saves will be automatically uploaded to the cloud so you can easily pick up where you left off on other platforms.” Cross-progression carries save data; it does not grant a license for the destination platform.
Is The Witcher 3 Remastered a free upgrade?
It is free for eligible existing owners, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement. The announcement also lists purchase availability through Battle.net and Microsoft Store. Whether you receive the upgrade depends on your original license, storefront or platform, and the entitlement displayed on the account you use. Check that platform’s product page before installing rather than assuming ownership on one platform unlocks another.
