First identify the exact game and check which of your devices it supports in its current Xbox listing. A “shadow drop” announcement alone does not confirm that a game is available on your console, PC, or through cloud gaming—or that it is available for your account and region. Once you confirm the game and device, choose the listed route: install it locally or, if supported, play it through the cloud.
Identify the game and check where it is available
Find the game’s exact title in the announcement, then open its current listing in Xbox. Check whether it offers a download for your device, cloud play, or both. Do not assume a surprise release supports every Game Pass platform just because it is part of Game Pass.

If the listing offers a local download for your device, follow the current Xbox installation guidance for that device. Xbox Support’s Install games page covers game installation. Can you play it without downloading?
