Check the PC requirements first
Steam lists these minimum and recommended specifications for Blair Witch. They are the store’s published requirements, not a guarantee of performance on a particular computer.

Steam’s Blair Witch listing also displays this Steam Client note: “Starting January 1st, 2024, the Steam Client will only support Windows 10 and later versions.” That is separate from the game’s listed Windows 7 minimum: the game requirement does not mean the current Steam Client supports Windows 7.

Install the game through Steam
- Open Steam and sign in to the account that will play the game.
- Find Blair Witch in the Library. If it is not in your Library, use the Steam store listing to access the game and add or purchase it as applicable to your account.
- Select Install. When prompted, choose a Steam library drive with at least 16 GB free.
- Let Steam download and install the game. Wait until the Library shows that installation is complete.
Blair Witch was released on Steam on August 30, 2019; the listing names Bloober Team SA as developer and Bloober Team NA as publisher.

Launch Blair Witch
In Steam, open Library, select Blair Witch, and click Play. If the game does not open or remains stuck at “Preparing to Launch,” try the troubleshooting steps below.
If installation or an update fails
Keep the full error text visible when troubleshooting. Steam notes that the parenthetical details in an installation or update error can help identify its cause.
- Restart Steam, then restart the computer and try again.
- Clear the download cache: open Steam > Settings > Downloads and select the option to clear the download cache.
- Repair the library folder: open Steam > Settings > Storage, select the relevant library, and use its repair option.
- Verify the game files using the steps in the next section.
- Temporarily change the download region in Steam > Settings > Downloads, then retry the download or update.
- If you have another library drive with enough free space, try installing or moving the game there.
These are Steam’s first-line suggestions for installation and update problems; the right fix depends on the error and setup.

Verify the installed game files
File verification checks the local installation against Steam’s files and can replace damaged or missing game data. Steam says it may take several minutes.
- Restart the computer, then open Steam.
- In Library, right-click Blair Witch, or open the game’s gear menu.
- Select Properties, then Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and let the check finish.
Steam may report that one or more files failed verification because local configuration files are not replaced; Steam says this can be normal. Avoid running verification while other system-intensive work is underway, and do not verify several games at once. See Steam’s file verification instructions.

Steam’s launch guidance recommends checking several possible causes. No single step is guaranteed to solve every launch failure, which can depend on the PC’s hardware and software configuration.

- Install available Windows updates, then restart the computer.
- Update the graphics and other device drivers, especially if they are outdated.
- Verify the game files using the procedure above.
- Temporarily disable non-essential background software and try launching again. Steam warns that “Games may not launch if you’re running software which interferes with Steam.”
- Compare the computer with the game’s listed processor, memory, graphics, DirectX, and operating-system requirements.
