Check compatibility and choose the right driver
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition supports compatible Radeon graphics on Windows 11 version 21H2 and later. Support depends on the particular GPU and driver release, so confirm that your exact product appears in AMD’s driver options and check the package’s release notes. AMD’s installation guide and release notes provide version- and product-specific details.

Use Auto-Detect for the guided route
AMD’s Drivers and Support page offers Auto-Detect and Install. The tool checks supported Radeon graphics or Ryzen chipset hardware and your Windows version, then presents compatible driver packages when available. AMD’s Auto-Detect instructions describe how to use it.

Use Product Selector for manual selection
If Auto-Detect does not support your product, or you need to choose a particular operating system or driver, use AMD’s Product Selector. Select your exact Radeon product and Windows version, then review the compatible downloads and any previous-driver options. AMD says its reference drivers offer broad OEM compatibility, but some manufacturer-specific features may require a custom driver from the computer maker; see AMD’s graphics driver selection guidance.

Choose Recommended or Optional when both are offered
AMD characterizes Recommended drivers as stability-oriented and Microsoft-certified. Optional drivers offer newer features and bug fixes. These are AMD’s descriptions of its package categories, not an independent comparative test. If you prefer the stability-focused option, choose Recommended; if you need a newer feature or fix, consider Optional.
Install the driver

Open AMD’s Drivers and Support page. Run Auto-Detect or select your product manually, then download the offered installer.

Open the saved installer and allow it to unpack. AMD recommends keeping the default installation location.

Let the installer check hardware and software compatibility. Review the license terms, then select Accept & Express Install for the default setup.

To choose a different setup, open Additional Options. Select Default for AMD Software features and controls, Minimal for basic controls, or Driver Only to install without the AMD Software user interface. Custom choices depend on available components and your system configuration.

If the installer offers Recommended and Optional packages, select the one that suits your needs. Allow installation to complete, then select Close.

A brief display flicker while the driver changes are applied is normal. Labels and available components can differ by software version and system configuration. AMD’s illustrated installation flow is based on Adrenalin 26.1.1 and an RX 9070; its screenshots are examples, not a guarantee that every computer will show the same choices.
Decide whether to use Factory Reset
Factory Reset is optional; it is not required for an ordinary first-time installation or update. AMD says it removes previous AMD Software package versions, temporarily pauses Windows Updates, restarts the computer, and then resumes installation. After a Factory Reset, you cannot roll back to the previous driver through the installer. Use it only if you understand that consequence and have a reason to remove earlier package versions.

Use the computer maker’s driver for device-specific problems
For a laptop or all-in-one PC, check the computer manufacturer’s support page, particularly if AMD’s reference driver causes compatibility problems. Manufacturers may customize and validate drivers for device-specific features and optimizations. AMD notes that its notebook reference package has limited support for vendor-specific features; see its release notes and notebook guidance. If a reference driver causes trouble, install the driver listed for your exact computer model by its manufacturer.
Troubleshoot an installer error
AMD documents several possible causes, including pending Windows updates or restarts, network or download-resource failures, unsupported hardware or operating systems, insufficient disk space, third-party graphics drivers, and Windows Update replacing a driver. Match the installer’s error number to AMD’s installation troubleshooting guidance rather than applying one cleanup procedure to every failure. Administrator-rights requirements can be package-specific: for example, AMD’s 26.1.1 release notes state that administrator rights are required for that release, so check the notes for the package you are installing.
