Start with the largest image or text block near the top of the page, followed by unnecessary apps, scripts, fonts, animations, and embeds. Retest the same pages on mobile and desktop; no single builder setting guarantees a particular score or search ranking.
Measure what is slow before changing the page
Website speed is not just how quickly a page first appears. Google’s Core Web Vitals measure loading, responsiveness, and visual stability. Its current “good” thresholds are evaluated at the 75th percentile separately for mobile and desktop:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
| Metric | What it measures | Good threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | How long it takes the largest visible image or text block to render. | 2.5 seconds or less |
| Interaction to Next Paint (INP) | Responsiveness to user interactions. | 200 milliseconds or less |
| Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | Unexpected movement of page content. | 0.1 or less |
These are guideposts, not a promise that a particular edit will improve a score. Use field data, which reflects real visitors and devices, alongside a lab test such as Google PageSpeed Insights. Field and lab results answer different questions: field data shows what visitors experience over time, while a lab run helps diagnose a page under repeatable conditions. A single lab score is not a substitute for visitor data.

Test the homepage and at least one feature-heavy page on both mobile and desktop. Record the weak metric and the page’s largest visible element. If LCP is the problem, inspect the hero image, banner, or headline first. If the page loads but interactions lag, look for scripts, apps, and widgets doing work in the background. If content shifts, inspect late-loading embeds or elements that may not have reserved space; the cause of a shift is page-specific.
Work through the page in this order
1. Optimize the largest visible image
Check the hero image or other large above-the-fold media. Upload an image sized appropriately for its display rather than a very large source intended for print or a much larger screen. Use an image format supported by your builder and verify the result on the live page. Wix recommends JPG or WebP for image-based LCP and says JPGs can be “up to 10 times lighter than PNGs” in relevant cases; that is Wix’s conditional guidance, not a guarantee for every image or platform. See Wix’s Core Web Vitals guidance.

If a gallery, video, or store widget is not essential to the first screen, consider moving it lower on the page. Keep it near the top if visitors need it to understand or use the page; reducing weight should not come at the cost of the page’s purpose.
2. Simplify the first screen and page effects
Remove decorative animations, slideshows, and effects that do not help visitors. Wix notes that animations and slideshows tend to load more slowly than static elements, and recommends keeping effects below the fold where possible. See Wix’s performance best practices.
Rank #2
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.

For a crowded homepage, another option is to give distinct functions—such as a store, blog, or video collection—their own pages and link to them. This is a design choice, not a universal rule about page length. Wix discusses the trade-offs in its design guidance for performance.
3. Audit apps, embeds, and custom code
List the apps, widgets, analytics, marketing integrations, tracking pixels, and custom snippets used on the slow page. Remove items that are unused or lack a clear visitor or business purpose, then test again. Shopify’s developer documentation puts the cost plainly: “Each third-party script adds main-thread work.” An integration may still be worth keeping if its function matters; the effect depends on the implementation and the page.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Wix recommends reviewing custom code settings, marketing integrations, and scripts associated with third-party apps. Shopify identifies apps, media, themes, and analytics features as possible performance influences. The controls and impact vary by platform. See Wix’s Core Web Vitals guidance, Shopify’s web performance overview, and Shopify’s guidance on third-party scripts.
4. Reduce font overhead without sacrificing readability
Use a small number of font families and weights. Wix recommends no more than three or four fonts in one best-practices article and three or fewer font weights in its text guidance; these are Wix recommendations, not universal technical limits. System fonts can be a lighter option if they suit the design. Use real text rather than baking words into images so visitors can read and use the content as text. See Wix’s performance best practices and its text guidance.

If one metric improves but the page becomes harder to use, restore the necessary feature and look for another bottleneck. Judge each change by whether it addresses an observed problem, whether visitors still get what they need, whether the control is available in your builder, and whether the relevant mobile and desktop results improve.
Where to find the right controls in your builder
Wix points site owners to its Site Speed dashboard and PageSpeed Insights; the available controls vary by editor. Shopify offers Web Performance reports based on Core Web Vitals. In other builders, look in the current documentation for equivalent media, app or integration, font, and performance-report settings. Wix and Shopify’s recommendations describe their own platforms and should not be treated as universal controls.
