What performance can you expect on PS5?
Rockstar’s documented PS5 path for Red Dead Redemption 2 is backward compatibility with the PS4 version, not a native PS5 edition. Rockstar announced this on November 6, 2020: Rockstar’s backward-compatibility announcement.

This is third-party analysis, not an official Rockstar specification; the cited material does not establish whether a change arrived after that update. Sony says Game Boost may make select PS4 games run at a higher or smoother frame rate, but does not promise a benefit in every game or specifically for Red Dead Redemption 2. That general feature is not a game-specific performance mode. Sony’s backward-compatibility guidance describes the qualification.

What you can do to check and improve the experience
Install available updates
Check that the game and PS5 system software are up to date. Updates can address bugs or compatibility, but there is no verified update in the cited sources that unlocks 60 fps. Rockstar’s support hub links to Title Update 1.32 notes for PS4, Xbox One and PC; those notes do not establish later PS5 performance status. Rockstar Support.
Check the display path if motion looks uneven
- Enable your television or monitor’s Game Mode if available; this can affect display responsiveness, not the game’s internal frame-rate cap.
- Check that the HDMI cable is connected securely and that the display input is configured as expected.
- Compare the PS5’s video output settings with the resolutions and refresh rates your screen accepts. A 120 Hz display or console output setting does not make this game render at 60 fps.
These are connection and display checks, not an FPS unlock. No verified accessory or console-level setting in the cited sources removes the game’s reported cap.

Don’t confuse RDR2 with the original Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 are separate games. A PS5 edition or 60 fps update for the original does not mean the sequel has the same feature. Rockstar’s backward-compatibility announcement identifies Red Dead Redemption 2 as the PS4 version playable on PS5; the original’s separate update information is not evidence of an RDR2 upgrade. - A 120 Hz television, a different HDMI cable or a cooling stand.
- An SSD or a change to PS5 video-output settings.
- PS5 system Game Presets mistaken for a game-specific performance mode.
These may serve other setup needs, but the cited sources do not support presenting them as ways to remove Red Dead Redemption 2’s frame-rate cap. Sony recommends trying backward-compatible PS4 games before buying add-ons to confirm you are satisfied with the play experience.
