That helps you use the runtime the earbuds already have; it cannot restore capacity lost through battery aging. Also distinguish runtime per earbud charge from total listening time with case recharges and from long-term battery health—they are different things, and the right settings depend on your earbud model and phone.
What does “battery life” mean for earbuds?
Per-charge runtime is how long the earbuds play before they need to go back in the case. Total listening time includes the additional charges the case can provide. Long-term battery health is how well the small rechargeable cells retain capacity over time. A charging habit that protects long-term health does not necessarily add minutes to a single listening session.

Manufacturers publish maximum figures, not guaranteed results for every listener. For example, Samsung lists up to 7 hours per charge and up to 26 hours with a fully charged case for Galaxy Buds FE; up to 8 hours per charge and up to 30 hours with a fully charged case for Galaxy Buds2 Pro; and up to 7.5 hours per charge plus up to 29 additional hours with a fully charged case for Galaxy Buds2. These are Samsung’s 2026 specifications, not independent comparative test results. Samsung says runtime and charging time may vary with model and use. How to get the most from each charge
Put the earbuds back in a charged case
When you finish listening, place both earbuds in their case and close it. Apple advises, “To keep your AirPods charged, put them in the case when you’re not using them.” Samsung similarly advises Galaxy Buds+ users to store unused earbuds in a charged case with its cover closed. These instructions apply to the manufacturers’ covered products; a depleted case or earbuds that are not seated correctly may not charge them. Keep the buds and charging contacts clean and dry
Before putting earbuds away, check that they are dry and that the charging contacts are free of visible debris. Samsung warns that sweat or liquid on Galaxy Buds+ contacts can cause corrosion, and that dust, earwax, or other debris can prevent Galaxy earbuds from charging correctly. Follow the cleaning method for your exact model; do not put wet earbuds in the case. Samsung’s care guidance and charging troubleshooting steps describe the applicable precautions.
Check the case before assuming the earbuds are at fault
The earbuds can only recharge from a case that has power. Confirm the case is charging, the cable or wireless charger is compatible, and the buds sit in their charging positions. Charging options and connectors vary by case: Samsung provides wired or wireless charging depending on the applicable model, while AirPods cases may use Lightning or USB-C and some support wireless charging. Check the model-specific instructions before choosing a cable or charger. Charging the case replenishes its available charge; it does not increase the earbuds’ battery capacity. Which settings and features can help?
Use battery-health features for battery longevity, not extra playback time
On supported AirPods—AirPods Pro and AirPods 3 or later—Apple’s Optimised Battery Charging learns charging routines and delays a full charge until shortly before the earbuds are expected to be used. Its purpose is to reduce time spent fully charged and help reduce wear over the long term. It is not a switch that extends listening time on one charge, and it is not available on every earbud model. Check Apple’s instructions for supported models and details.
Do not assume a universal “battery saver” setting
Controls and power use vary across earbud models, companion phones, and software. The available manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal runtime gain from turning off noise cancellation, spatial audio, microphone features, a particular codec, or voice assistants. If your model offers power-related options, consult its own documentation and compare runtime under your usual settings rather than assuming a feature will save a fixed amount.

Why do my wireless earbuds die so fast?
Start by checking whether the earbuds are actually reaching a full charge and whether the case has enough charge to refill them between sessions. Then inspect seating and contacts: debris, moisture, or poor contact can interfere with charging. If charging appears normal, compare your experience with the manufacturer’s claim for your exact model and remember that “up to” figures are maximum claims, not a promise under every configuration or use pattern.
If the runtime remains far below what you expect after checking charging and model-specific settings, follow the manufacturer’s troubleshooting process and contact its service channel. Samsung recommends checking battery level and escalating for service when troubleshooting does not resolve an abnormal result. Cleaning may address a charging problem, but it cannot be relied on to restore capacity in an aged battery. How do I compare battery-life claims before choosing earbuds?
Compare like with like. Look separately at claimed playback time per charge and total time with a fully charged case, and note any stated conditions. Also check how the case charges, which connector it uses, whether battery-health controls work with your phone, and what service or case-replacement support is available. The Samsung figures above are useful examples of variation between models, but they are manufacturer claims rather than a controlled comparison across brands.
