You can often improve a OnePlus phone’s day-to-day battery life without switching off everything you rely on. Start by checking which apps and processes used power recently, then make targeted changes only where the tradeoff is acceptable. Menu names and available controls vary by OnePlus model and OxygenOS version, so use the closest matching options on your phone.
Find out what used your battery
Open Settings > Battery, then look for battery usage or usage details. The exact label and screen layout vary. Depending on the phone and software, the page may show use since the last full charge or over the previous 24 hours.

Look for apps with unexpectedly high activity compared with how much you used them. A high entry is not automatically a problem: navigation, video, games, and long periods with the screen on can use substantial power as expected. OnePlus does not publish a universal percentage or threshold that identifies a faulty or wasteful app, so judge the result against your own use.

Limit background activity selectively
If an app you rarely use is active in the background, review its battery management or optimization settings. Restricting background activity may reduce its power use, but can also delay updates or alerts. Keep less restrictive settings for apps that need to respond promptly, such as important messaging apps or navigation services.
On OxygenOS 14.0, the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite manual warns that turning off “Allow foreground activity” may keep an app from running properly and delay notifications. That control and its effects are specific to supported software and apps; do not assume every OnePlus phone presents the same setting. Avoid applying the strictest optimization to every app without checking what each one does.

Choose power-saving suggestions you can live with
Some OnePlus versions offer a one-tap Save power feature that detects power-consumption issues and suggests changes. Review each suggestion rather than accepting every possible reduction automatically. Examples in OnePlus’s older Android 12 system guide include turning off power-draining apps or GPS, changing the refresh rate to 60 Hz, and shortening the auto screen-off time. These are examples, not a list of controls guaranteed to appear on current phones.

- Screen timeout: A shorter timeout may help if the display often stays on after you stop using the phone.
- Refresh rate: A lower setting can reduce smoothness. Keep your preferred setting if the difference matters more than the possible saving.
- Location: Restrict location only for apps that do not need it; turning it off globally can interfere with navigation and other useful services.
- Battery Saver: Use it when the charge is low or you need the phone to last through a long day. OnePlus says it can extend battery life by restricting apps and device features, which may affect how the phone behaves.
Protect long-term battery health separately
Optimized charging is intended to slow battery aging, not to fix high power use during the current charge. On supported devices, the feature may learn your charging routine and delay charging beyond 80% until closer to the time it expects you to use the phone. Its name, behavior, and availability depend on the device; the OnePlus Open manual describes this approach for that model.

OnePlus support advises keeping the surrounding temperature between 5°C and 35°C while charging. For long-term storage, OnePlus advises keeping the battery above 60%, storing the phone in a cool, dry place, and recharging it every four or five months. These are manufacturer recommendations for charging and storage conditions, not settings that promise more hours from today’s charge. See OnePlus Support for its battery-care guidance.

On the OnePlus Open, the manual describes maximum capacity as an estimate of current battery capacity compared with when the phone was new: “A lower percentage means less usage time between charges.” The metric indicates battery aging; it does not identify which app is using power. Availability and wording may differ on other models.

If you want to keep your usual features on and need extra power while away from a charger, a compatible USB-C power bank is an optional workaround.
