For the quickest runtime boost, turn on Battery Saver; for a lighter-touch fix, reduce screen wakeups, use Bedtime mode overnight, and limit LTE or streamed music when practical. Google’s estimates differ by size: Pixel Watch 5 is rated for up to 30 hours with Always-on Display on (41 mm) or 40 hours (45 mm), and up to 48 or 72 hours respectively in Battery Saver. These are maximum estimates, not promises for a particular routine.
Start with the right expectation for your watch size
Google’s estimates are based on testing in California in 2026 with pre-production hardware and software, default settings, and a median Pixel user battery-use profile across talk, data, standby, and features default in Battery Saver. Actual battery life may be lower and varies with usage, mobile network and signal, enabled features, environment, and other factors. Google’s announcement also notes that battery life varies by model and use.

Battery Saver is the simplest broad adjustment when you need the charge to last longer. On the watch, swipe down, open Settings, tap Battery, choose Battery saver, and confirm. Google says it can also be set to turn on automatically at 15% battery.

The mode turns off Always-on Display and limits background activity; notifications may arrive late. Tilt-to-wake remains enabled. Google says key health and fitness tracking remains available, along with basic tasks such as checking the time, receiving notifications, calls, and GPS workouts without music. Use it when extra runtime matters more than immediate notifications and a continuously visible screen.
Reduce display use without changing every feature
Turn off Always-on Display
On the watch, swipe down and go to Settings > Display, then turn off Always-on Display. The display will not stay visible when you are not actively looking at it, so you will need to wake it to check the time. Google does not quantify how many hours this single change saves.

Stop unnecessary gesture wakeups
If the screen often wakes when you move your wrist, open Settings > Gestures and turn off Tilt-to-wake. You will need another way to wake the display, so this is most useful when accidental or frequent wakeups are a problem rather than a feature you rely on.
Shorten screen timeout
Go to Settings > Display > Screen timeout and select a faster timeout. This reduces how long the watch face stays awake after interaction; treat it as an incremental adjustment, not a guaranteed number of extra hours.

Use Bedtime mode while tracking sleep
Turn on Bedtime mode from quick settings when you wear the watch overnight. It turns off the display, Tilt-to-wake, and Touch-to-wake while active, and limits alerts to alarms, priority notifications, and repeat callers. This cuts overnight interruptions while keeping the watch useful for sleep tracking.
Adjust LTE, GPS, and music to match what you need
Use LTE only when it is useful
On an LTE model, if cellular use is contributing to drain, open Settings > Connectivity > Mobile and set Mobile to Automatic or Off. Automatic uses cellular only when Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is unavailable; Off disables the cellular radio. Turning it off can affect connectivity: if your phone is offline, some features, including making a phone call, may not work.

Make GPS workouts less demanding
Google recommends enabling Google Location Accuracy for power-efficient location information. Google’s general Pixel Watch guidance says continuous GPS use can provide 8–10 hours of battery life, but it does not identify that figure as a Pixel Watch 5-specific test, so do not treat it as a promised workout duration for this model.
Download music instead of streaming
Google says streaming music drains the battery faster than using downloaded music. For a long workout, download tracks to the watch ahead of time if your listening app supports it. Google does not publish a specific runtime gain for this change.

Separate battery health from hours on today’s charge
Adaptive charging is available on Pixel Watch 4 and 5. Turn it on at Settings > Battery to minimize degradation when the watch remains fully charged for a long time. It is intended to protect long-term battery health, not to add runtime to the current charge. Battery Defender may pause charging after the watch has stayed on the charger for four days or longer; removing and replacing it on the charger allows charging beyond 80%.
When you need a quick top-up—or charging seems wrong
Google says the included Pixel Watch Quick Charge Dock can provide up to 15 hours of battery life from a 15-minute charge, and charge from 0% to 80% in 20 minutes. These are charging estimates; results depend on factors such as battery age and temperature. An optional spare dock can be convenient for travel or a second charging location, but it does not increase battery capacity.
If charging fails or seems inconsistent, check that the watch is aligned on the dock, the dock is connected, and both are dry. Google says Pixel Watch 4 and 5 can alert you if the charger is unsupported or misaligned. Pixel phones do not support reverse wireless charging for the watch. If it still will not charge or hold charge, follow Google’s Pixel Watch charging troubleshooting guidance. Use Google’s included charger rather than assuming an unverified third-party charger is compatible.
