Keep an untouched copy of the export, try a small representative batch, then check the imported files, structure, and task details before moving everything. There is no universal transfer format: the result depends on the app pair, device, account, and features you use.
Before you export, inventory what needs to move
Write down the source app, destination app, device or operating system, account type, and approximate number of notes and tasks. Then list the details you rely on, since the destination may not support them in the same way.

- For notes: notebooks or folders, tags, attachments, embedded images, comments, dates, and complex formatting.
- For tasks: project and section structure, subtasks, assignees, due dates, reminders, recurring rules, priority, and duration.
Plan around how the destination maps data, not just whether it accepts a file. For example, Notion maps Evernote notebooks to pages and notes to database items; Apple Notes converts imported files into new notes; and Todoist’s CSV format represents task fields such as dates and indentation. Those mappings do not guarantee that every source feature has an equivalent.

Check the destination’s current import instructions and the source’s export options for your specific device and account. Prefer a documented direct importer when it suits your data; otherwise, choose an interchange format the destination explicitly accepts. Compare what each route preserves, what it omits, its batch or file-size limits, and how much cleanup it may require.

Evernote to Notion
Notion documents a direct Evernote import that connects to an Evernote account. Notion says complex tables, styling, and app-specific features may need cleanup. Its mapping turns notebooks into pages and notes into database items, so inspect the resulting organization rather than assuming the original notebook structure will remain intact. Evernote to Apple Notes
Apple’s Mac instructions support importing ENEX files into Notes. Apple warns that unsupported attachments or features may not be imported. If you are considering another format, Apple lists TXT, RTF, RTFD, HTML, ENEX, and Markdown (MD) for Mac file imports; Markdown-to-rich-text conversion requires macOS Tahoe 26 or iOS/iPadOS 26 or later. Evernote to OneNote
Do not follow old tutorials that rely on Microsoft’s legacy Evernote-to-OneNote Importer: Microsoft says it was retired in September 2022. OneNote’s web notebook export has a separate restriction: it applies to personal OneDrive notebooks, not work or school OneDrive notebooks or notebooks in SharePoint. Check Microsoft’s current documentation for the route that applies to your account before exporting. Task managers using CSV
Todoist supports CSV import and export for project data. Its documented fields cover task content and descriptions, priorities, indentation, responsible people, dates, time zones, durations, deadlines, and section state. A CSV transfer still depends on compatible columns and value conventions in the destination, and does not prove that every app-specific rule is represented. See Todoist’s CSV import and export guide.

Export a copy and understand the format
Keep the original export separate from the destination app and leave it unmodified until you have checked the migration. Evernote says its desktop apps for Mac and Windows can export selected notes or entire notebooks as ENEX or HTML. Its export guide allows up to 100 notes at a time or a whole notebook, and selectable ENEX file-size settings from 300 MB to 2 GB. These limits apply to Evernote’s documented export, not to imports in every app. See Evernote’s export instructions.

For Evernote, ENEX and HTML export is documented as a desktop-app feature. Evernote’s separate Settings import can convert PDF, TXT, HTML, MD, and DOCX into editable notes; dragging other files into the note list may attach them rather than convert them. Test a small batch before moving everything
- Export a representative sample. Include ordinary items and examples with the features you depend on: attachments, images, tags, dates, nested tasks, recurring tasks, or complex formatting, as applicable.
- Import the sample using the documented route. Follow the destination’s instructions for the correct device and account type.
- Inspect the results in the destination. Check a range of imported items rather than relying on a success message alone.
- Adjust the route or your expectations before the full move. If a key field is missing or mapped differently, find out whether another documented format works better or whether that detail needs manual handling.
For the specific Evernote-to-Notion route, Notion says imports are reliable up to about 5,000 notes, while larger imports may fail. It also warns that Evernote rate limits can cause long backoffs and that images may not render correctly. Treat this as guidance for that importer, not as a general migration threshold. Audit notes, attachments, and task fields
After the test—and again after the full import—compare source and destination item counts where possible, then inspect important items in the destination. Use the checks relevant to your apps and data:

- Notes: Are titles, text, tags, and folder or notebook relationships present? Open attachments and images, and check notes with tables or unusual formatting.
- Tasks: Check project or section placement, parent-and-subtask relationships, assignees, due dates, deadlines, time zones, priorities, durations, and recurring behavior where relevant.
- Files: Open a sample of imported attachments rather than assuming that a listed filename means its contents transferred correctly.
Keep the untouched export until you are satisfied with the destination. If a batch is incomplete or mapped incorrectly, it gives you a separate copy to work from while you decide whether to retry, split the migration, or handle specific items manually.
Why the exact app pair matters
Import and export support changes across apps, versions, devices, and account types. Apple’s guidance is for Mac file imports; Evernote describes desktop exports and separate import options; and Microsoft’s OneNote web-export rule distinguishes personal OneDrive notebooks from work or school and SharePoint notebooks. Confirm the current route for your setup before starting, especially if older migration instructions point to a retired importer.
There is no guarantee that a successful import preserves every feature. The most reliable plan is to confirm the mapping, test the content that matters, and verify the destination before treating the move as complete.
