To import messages in Hostinger Webmail, open Settings → Email Import → Import emails. Choose From a file to upload an EML message or a ZIP of EML files, or choose From another mailbox to copy messages from an account reachable over IMAP. Imports run in the background, and you can check their status under Settings → Email Import.
Before you start
- Make sure the destination Hostinger mailbox exists and has enough available storage. An uploaded file must fit within the mailbox’s remaining storage.
- Choose your route: use a file if you have an EML backup; use another-mailbox import if you can sign in to the source account and it is accessible over IMAP.
- Keep the old mailbox available until the backup and migration are confirmed complete.
Import an EML file or ZIP in Webmail
- Sign in to Hostinger Webmail and open Settings → Email Import → Import emails → From a file.
- Select one
.emlmessage or a.zipfile containing EML messages. Hostinger’s Webmail guidance sets a 50 MB maximum file size and allows up to 100 EML files in a ZIP. - Choose the destination: Inbox, an existing folder, or a new folder.
- Click Import. The import runs in the background; you can continue using the mailbox while it completes.
- Return to Settings → Email Import to review the current or past import status.
Unreadable messages are skipped while the rest of the file is imported. Check the job status and compare the imported messages with the source if anything appears to be missing.

Import directly from another mailbox over IMAP
- In Webmail, open Settings → Email Import → Import emails and choose From another mailbox.
- Enter the source email address, then select the provider. If it is not listed, choose Other and enter the source mailbox’s IMAP server.
- Enter the source account password and review the source and destination account details.
- Start the import, then check its progress under Settings → Email Import.
If the connection fails, verify the source server name and credentials with the source provider. Hostinger notes that DNS changes can affect access to an old provider’s IMAP host; its hPanel guidance identifies the old hosting IP as a possible workaround in that situation.
What transfers—and what may not
Folders
Hostinger’s Email Import tool is designed to recreate the source folder structure, but the result depends on what the source provider exposes over IMAP. If folders are not exposed, the importer cannot recreate them. Do not assume that provider-specific labels or folder arrangements will transfer identically.

Contacts
Contacts do not move with email messages. Import them separately in Webmail from a CSV or XLSX file. Hostinger’s contact importer accepts files up to 5 MB or 5,000 rows; each contact needs a primary email address. Duplicate contacts with matching email addresses are skipped and counted in the import summary.
Mailbox settings
Plan to record and rebuild settings as needed. Hostinger’s migration guidance says forwarders, aliases, autoresponders, signatures, filters, labels, blocked senders, server settings, and app passwords are not all transferred with messages.

Which import route should you use?
| Route | Use it when | Key limit or behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Webmail file import | You already have an EML backup. | Maximum 50 MB per file; one EML or a ZIP containing up to 100 EML files. The file must fit available destination storage; unreadable messages are skipped. |
| Webmail import from another mailbox | The source account is reachable over IMAP. | Requires the source email address, password, and provider selection or manually entered IMAP server. Runs in the background. |
| hPanel Email Import tool | You are migrating a source account into a created Hostinger destination mailbox and prefer the hPanel workflow. | Requires source credentials and an IMAP server. Folder recreation depends on what the source provider exposes over IMAP. |
| IMAP Sync tool | You need another server-to-server transfer option. | Hostinger documents a 3 GB transfer limit per transfer; larger accounts need to be split or handled another way. |
The last two options are alternatives to the Webmail flow described above. Check Hostinger’s guidance for the appropriate tool before starting a larger migration.

Troubleshoot a stalled or incomplete import
- The file is rejected: Check that it is an EML file or a ZIP of EML files, stays within the 50 MB maximum, and fits the destination mailbox’s available storage.
- The destination runs out of space: Check available mailbox storage before retrying.
- Some messages are missing: Unreadable messages may be skipped. Review the import status and source data.
- Folders are absent or different: The source provider may not expose those folders through IMAP.
- The IMAP connection fails: Confirm the source credentials and server with the provider; if DNS changes have affected access to an old IMAP host, Hostinger’s hPanel guidance suggests the old hosting IP as a possible workaround.
- The account is too large for IMAP Sync: Hostinger documents a 3 GB limit per transfer, so split a larger transfer or use another supported method.
- Contacts are missing: Run the separate CSV or XLSX contact import.
