Streamlabs’ documented script-import workflow is for Streamlabs Chatbot, not a confirmed built-in feature of the current Streamlabs Desktop editor. In Streamlabs Chatbot, configure the legacy Python path, then import a script ZIP from the Scripts tab. The instructions rely on Python 2.7.13 and are dated guidance, so check that the separate Chatbot application and workflow are still available before installing anything.
Streamlabs’ Chatbot Scripts guide was published August 5, 2020 and last updated April 25, 2025. Its Chatbot product page distinguishes Chatbot from Streamlabs Desktop; the reviewed sources do not establish that Desktop’s current editor supports this Scripts-tab workflow.

Before you begin: identify the right Streamlabs app
These instructions apply to the Scripts tab in Streamlabs Chatbot (also called Desktop Chatbot in its help pages). They should not be read as instructions for importing Python scripts into the current Streamlabs Desktop editor. If you only have Streamlabs Desktop open and cannot find a Scripts tab, confirm that you have the separate Chatbot application rather than assuming a setting is missing.

What you need
- Streamlabs Chatbot with the bot and streamer accounts connected.
- A script supplied as a ZIP file. Streamlabs suggests its Chatbot Discord or someone you know well as sources; that is a sourcing recommendation, not a safety certification.
- The legacy Python version specified by Streamlabs: Python 2.7.13, 32-bit (x86). Streamlabs’ FAQ warns that Python 3 and x64 are not appropriate for this setup.
Those runtime requirements come from Streamlabs’ script guide and Chatbot FAQ and troubleshooting page. Because the guidance is for a legacy workflow, do not use it as a reason to downgrade or alter Python installations used by other applications.
How to import a script ZIP
- Install the required legacy runtime only if you have confirmed this workflow is necessary. The Streamlabs instructions specify Python 2.7.13 in the 32-bit/x86 edition. Do not substitute Python 3 or 64-bit Python for this documented setup.
- Open Streamlabs Chatbot and go to the Scripts tab. Use the gear or settings control in that tab to open its script settings.
- Set the Python directory. In the field named Python 2.7.13 Directory, select the Python
Libfolder. Streamlabs givesC:Python27Libas a default example; your installation may be in another location. SelectLib, notLibs. - Import the ZIP. In the Scripts tab, choose Import, then select the script ZIP file. Follow any prompts shown by Chatbot and check the Scripts tab for the imported script and any error messages.
Streamlabs does not describe a security-audit process for third-party scripts. Avoid running unfamiliar scripts with elevated permissions or bypassing security warnings. If you cannot establish who supplied a script or what it does, do not import it.

If the Scripts tab or import does not work
| Symptom | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Scripts tab is missing | Whether you are in Streamlabs Chatbot rather than the Streamlabs Desktop editor, and whether bot and streamer accounts are connected. | Open the Chatbot application and check its account connections. Streamlabs’ FAQ lists missing connections as a possible reason the tab does not appear. |
| Import reports an error | The Scripts tab’s error view, Python version, and configured directory. | Confirm the legacy configuration is Python 2.7.13 x86 and that the directory points to its Lib folder, not Libs. Use the error details to identify what failed. |
| Script ZIP comes from an unknown source | Whether you trust the person or community that supplied it and understand what the script will do. | Streamlabs recommends its Chatbot Discord or a trusted person, but does not certify arbitrary downloads as safe. Do not elevate permissions or disable security protections to force an import. |
| Documentation does not match the app you have | Whether the separate legacy Chatbot workflow is available for your setup. | The reviewed Streamlabs pages do not resolve whether current releases continue to expose or support this workflow. Check Streamlabs’ current product and help information rather than assuming the old instructions apply to Streamlabs Desktop. |
Chatbot scripts versus Cloudbot
If you want ordinary chat commands or bot functions rather than an imported Python script, Cloudbot is a different option. Streamlabs’ Cloudbot setup guide, published May 19, 2026 and updated July 7, 2026, describes enabling Cloudbot online, assigning platform permissions, and creating commands from its dashboard. It does not say that Cloudbot imports or runs Python scripts.

|---|---|---|---|
| Streamlabs Chatbot Scripts | In the separate Chatbot desktop application | Yes, via the Scripts tab’s Import control | The legacy guide specifies Python 2.7.13 x86 and a Lib-folder path. Its current support status is not established by the reviewed pages. |
| Streamlabs Cloudbot | Online dashboard | Not stated in the Cloudbot guide | The guide covers dashboard setup, permissions, and commands; it does not claim Python-script import. |
Streamlabs’ FAQ, last updated April 10, 2025, describes desktop Chatbot as Windows-only and says it must remain open and connected to stay in chat. Treat those as statements about that legacy desktop Chatbot workflow, not as universal limitations of every Streamlabs product.
