Check the front of the box for its manufacturer name and complete model number. Optimum’s legacy digital-TV guide says the model number is printed on the front; on Scientific Atlanta SA 1800 and SA 1850 boxes, it is to the left of the display. Record the full model string so you can find the right guide or ask support about the exact hardware.
Where to find the model number
Start with the front panel. Look for both the manufacturer name and the complete model number, then copy the characters exactly. Optimum’s legacy digital-TV guide says a front-panel model number containing “HD” indicates an HD digital cable box.
If the front is difficult to see, check the visible sides and rear equipment label as a practical fallback. Label locations can differ by model, so the front-panel location described in Optimum’s guide should not be assumed to apply to every box.
Scientific Atlanta SA 1800 and SA 1850
For these specific models, Optimum says “Scientific Atlanta” and the model number are printed to the left of the display. Its SA 1800/1850 FAQ describes them as older boxes and recommends arranging a replacement through Optimum.

How to record and use the number
- Read the front panel. Note the manufacturer and model number; if necessary, inspect the sides and rear label as well.
- Copy the entire model string. Keep it distinct from the serial number, FCC ID, remote-control model, and service or account plan name.
- Use the model number when looking for help. Search for a matching equipment guide or give the number to Optimum support. “Suddenlink,” “Altice,” and “Optimum” alone may identify a provider or product family, not the specific hardware.
- For a Scientific Atlanta SA 1800 or SA 1850, contact Optimum about the replacement recommendation in its FAQ.
- If the label is missing or unreadable, use Optimum’s TV support or account and equipment resources to ask about your box. A universal on-screen menu route for finding the model number is not established in Optimum’s published guidance.
What the branding does—and does not—tell you
Suddenlink became Optimum, and product-family names have changed. Optimum maps Altice One Box to Optimum One and Altice One Mini to Optimum TV Box. Those names can help identify a family, but they are not necessarily the complete hardware model number. See Optimum’s product-name information.
Optimum’s older equipment guide illustrates Samsung and Scientific Atlanta hardware; its current guide index includes Samsung Cable Box HD and Optimum TV Box guides. These examples are not a complete catalog of every Suddenlink-era box.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare two boxes
Compare the manufacturer, the complete model number, and the provider guide that matches the hardware. If you only need to check whether the guide classifies a box as HD, Optimum’s older guide uses “HD” in the front-panel model number as its indicator. Do not infer DVR, recording, channel, or network features from the box’s shape or branding; verify those details in a matching guide or with Optimum.
