To check whether a particular kit uses it, match the kit’s exact part number and revision to reliable IC information. Samsung branding, DDR4 labeling, or a kit’s advertised speed alone does not prove it is B-die.
What Samsung B-die means
In this context, B-die refers to Samsung’s 8Gb DDR4 SDRAM die family. Samsung’s February 2017 datasheet identifies the component ordering families K4A8G045WB (2G ×4) and K4A8G085WB (1G ×8) as B-die parts: Samsung 8Gb DDR4 B-die datasheet, Rev. 2.1.

Those K4A8G… identifiers describe DRAM components, not necessarily the model number printed on a consumer memory kit. A kit has its own module or kit part number, and the IC family should be confirmed for that exact product and revision.
Why “Samsung DDR4” does not confirm B-die
Samsung made more than one DDR4 die family. Its May 2018 DDR4 product guide lists 8Gb B-die, C-die, and D-die parts, as well as a 16Gb A-die entry: Samsung DDR4 product guide, May 2018. The guide is component-level documentation, not a current list of retail kits. A Samsung-branded module—or a kit using Samsung chips—therefore is not automatically B-die.

- Disclaimer: Maximum Speed requires overclocking/PC BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depend on system components, including motherboard and CPU
- Hand-sorted memory chips ensure high performance with generous overclocking headroom
- VENGEANCE LPX is optimized for wide compatibility with the latest Intel and AMD DDR4 motherboards
- A low-profile height of just 34mm ensures that VENGEANCE LPX even fits in most small-form-factor builds
- A solid aluminum heatspreader efficiently dissipates heat from each module so that they consistently run at high clock speeds
Nor do the cited sources establish a speed-only rule for identifying B-die. Do not treat a kit’s advertised data rate or appearance as proof of its ICs.
How to check a specific kit
- Find the exact kit identifier. Read the full part number and revision on the module label or in the seller’s product information. Keep capacity and speed variants distinct; similar product names do not establish that the kits use the same ICs.
- Use a kit reference as a shortlist, not final proof. The B-Die Finder describes itself as a lookup for DDR4 kits sold through retailers including Amazon and Newegg. A database match is a useful lead, but may not establish which revision a seller currently has.
- Look for revision-specific confirmation. When possible, ask the seller or manufacturer whether the exact part number and revision uses Samsung B-die. Confirm that the information applies to the stock currently being sold.
- Keep component and kit numbers separate. K4A8G045WB and K4A8G085WB are Samsung B-die component families. They are useful clues if IC information is available, but a retail kit listing will not necessarily display either component number.
- Check platform compatibility before choosing the kit. The motherboard and CPU must support DDR4. Samsung explains that DDR generations differ in notch position, electrical characteristics, and signaling, and that DDR4 requires a motherboard and CPU specifically supporting DDR4: Samsung: PC RAM and DDR4 compatibility.
What Samsung’s speed figures do—and do not—tell you
The 2017 B-die datasheet lists component speed bins of DDR4-2133, DDR4-2400, and DDR4-2666, with timings of 15-15-15, 17-17-17, and 19-19-19 respectively. Samsung notes backward compatibility to lower frequencies. These are component datasheet specifications; they do not guarantee a particular retail kit’s overclock, validated profile, or timings. Check the kit’s own specifications for its advertised speed and timings.

- G.SKILL RipjawsV Series DDR4 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F4-3200C16D-16GVKB
- Non-ECC, DDR4 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
- Includes JEDEC default profile, and Intel XMP memory overclock profile
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
Compare candidate kits using kit-specific evidence
If you are weighing two candidates, compare the details that apply to the actual products rather than assuming B-die alone settles the choice.
Recommended Free Tools
- Exact part number and revision: Does the reference or seller identify the same full identifier and revision?
- IC evidence: Is B-die explicitly documented, or only inferred from brand, speed, or a database entry?
- Capacity and module configuration: Do the kit’s capacity and number of modules suit your system? The cited sources do not establish one universally best configuration.
- Platform support: Do the CPU and motherboard support DDR4 and the module type?
- Kit specifications: Compare the kit’s own advertised speed and timings; do not substitute component-level datasheet bins for a retail kit’s specifications.
- Seller details: Does the listing identify the revision being offered? A product name alone may not establish which revision is in stock.
Samsung’s 2018 guide labels its 8Gb B-die entry as EOL availability in 2019 Q2. That is historical information in the guide, not confirmation of current retail availability.
