The server and clients must agree on the Minecraft version, Fabric loader, Origins build, Fabric API, and every mod included in the pack.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
For the named Origins Adventure setup, start with Origins-serverpack 3.0.zip. Use a manual installation only when you need to choose, remove, or update individual mods yourself. Fabric’s installation guidance recommends Java 17 for Minecraft 1.17 through 1.20.4, which includes 1.18.1.

| Component | Required choice for this guide | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | 1.18.1 | The server, clients, Fabric installation, and Origins files must target the same game release. |
| Java | Java 17 | Fabric recommends Java 17 for Minecraft 1.17–1.20.4. |
| Server loader | Fabric for Minecraft 1.18.1 | Origins 1.3.2 and the Adventure pack are Fabric-based. |
| Origins | Origins 1.3.2 | This is the versioned Origins file listed for Minecraft 1.18.1 and it supports both client and server environments. |
| Pack option | Origins-serverpack 3.0.zip |
The supplied server pack is the quickest way to reproduce the named Origins Adventure configuration. |
| Server directory | A clean folder dedicated to this instance | Separating the instance keeps its world, configuration, logs, mods, and backups manageable. |
| Network access | A reachable host or Minecraft-capable managed host | Friends need a route to the running server; a local machine and a hosted machine have different firewall and administration steps. |
Download the Fabric server launcher or use Fabric’s manual server installer, selecting Minecraft 1.18.1 and a compatible Fabric loader. Keep a copy of every downloaded JAR and ZIP. If the pack author later updates a file, you can still restore the exact combination that created your working world.

Choose between the server-pack and manual routes
There are two valid ways to assemble the server. The pack route is normally the right choice when the goal is to run Origins Adventure as published. The manual route is useful for an administrator who wants direct control over the mod list.
| Decision point | Origins Adventure server pack | Manual installation |
|---|---|---|
| What you install | Extract Origins-serverpack 3.0.zip into the server directory. |
Install Origins 1.3.2, Fabric API, and every dependency required by the chosen configuration. |
| Reproducibility | High: one published ZIP gives everyone a common baseline. | Depends on your version notes and the accuracy of every selected JAR. |
| Initial setup time | Usually shorter after Fabric has generated the server files. | Longer because each mod and dependency must be identified and checked. |
| Control over individual mods | Lower; the pack defines the intended set. | Higher; you can add or remove compatible mods deliberately. |
| Update complexity | Replace or update the pack as a tested unit. | Track compatibility for every changed file and its dependencies. |
| Sharing the client setup | Easier: distribute the same pack contents and versions. | Requires a complete manifest so players do not omit a dependency. |
Use the server pack when
- You want the published Origins Adventure experience rather than a custom mod collection.
- You want the simplest path to an identical server and client installation.
- You would rather update a known pack than diagnose a missing dependency one JAR at a time.
Use manual installation when
- You need to control exactly which mods are present.
- You are maintaining a custom configuration and can test each change before players join.
- The pack is a starting point, but your group has a documented reason to diverge from it.
Install and verify Java 17
Install a Java 17 runtime
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime on the machine that will run the server. A desktop launcher can have its own Java setting, but the dedicated server uses the Java executable available to the operating system or the path configured by your host.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check the version used by the command line
Open a terminal, Command Prompt, or PowerShell window and run:
java -version
The output should identify major version 17. If it reports an older release, install Java 17 and put its bin directory first in the system PATH, or call that installation with its full path. If it reports a newer major release, test the complete mod set before relying on it; the documented recommendation for this Minecraft generation is Java 17.
Check the server’s actual Java, not just your desktop launcher
Run the version check from the same account, shell, container, or hosting control panel that will start the server. A common failure is having Java 17 installed while a service still launches an older Java binary. Record the successful command and Java path with your server files so an update or migration does not silently change the runtime.
Install Fabric for Minecraft 1.18.1
Download the server launcher or installer
Use Fabric’s server installation process and select Minecraft 1.18.1. You can download the executable server launcher, or use the manual server installer to generate the server files. Do not select a different Minecraft release simply because it is the latest option in a launcher.
Create a clean server folder
- Create a new folder dedicated to this instance, such as
origins-adventure-1.18.1. - Place the Fabric server launcher in that folder. A conventional filename is
fabric-server-launch.jar. - Run the launcher once so Fabric can generate the initial server files.
- Read the generated log and confirm that the process is using Java 17 and Minecraft 1.18.1.
- Stop the process before installing the pack or additional mods.
Accept the EULA before the first real start
The first run normally creates eula.txt and stops until the agreement is accepted. Open that file, read the linked Minecraft EULA, and change the agreement entry to eula=true only if you accept it. Start the server again once to let it finish generating its standard folders, then stop it cleanly. Installing mods after this first-generation step makes it easier to see which files belong to Fabric and which came from the pack.
Install the Origins Adventure server pack
Extract the ZIP into the server root
- Stop the Fabric server.
- Open
Origins-serverpack 3.0.zipwith an archive tool. - Extract its contents into the same folder that contains
fabric-server-launch.jar. - Preserve the ZIP’s directory structure, including its
modsfolder and any configuration or resource directories it supplies. - Check that you did not create an extra nesting level such as
origins-adventure-1.18.1/Origins-serverpack 3.0/...when the launcher expects the files directly under the server root. - Compare the resulting files with the pack’s layout before starting the server.
The ZIP is a server pack, not merely a single Origins JAR. Treat all of its supplied files as a coordinated set. If you omit a dependency, move a configuration file, or copy only the visible mods, the server may start with missing content or fail during registry loading.
Inspect the resulting mods folder
Confirm that the server’s mods directory contains the pack’s JAR files and that the Origins build is the 1.18.1 file, Origins 1.3.2. Do not place unrelated client-only performance or visual mods on the dedicated server unless the mod documentation explicitly supports a server installation.
Build the installation manually instead
Install the required base files
For a manual setup, place Origins 1.3.2 in the server’s mods folder along with Fabric API and every dependency required by the selected pack or mod configuration. The Origins project adds selectable origins with special abilities; some abilities help a player and others hinder gameplay, so the complete dependency set is part of the intended game rules rather than an optional cosmetic layer.
Keep a version manifest
Create a plain-text manifest beside the server JAR listing each mod filename and version. Include Fabric, Minecraft 1.18.1, Origins 1.3.2, Fabric API, and the dependencies you installed. When a player reports a connection error, compare this manifest with the client’s files instead of guessing which JAR changed.
Add one change at a time
Start the server with only the known-good base and pack files. If you add another mod, stop the server, copy the JAR into mods, start it, and inspect the log. This isolates dependency and registry failures and gives you a restore point when a new file is incompatible.
Start the server with the Fabric launcher
Use the baseline command
From the server directory, run:
java -Xmx2G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui
-Xmx2G sets a two-gigabyte maximum heap for the Java process. It is a baseline command, not a promise that every pack and player count will perform well with exactly 2 GB. Increase the allocation only when the pack, world size, and number of simultaneous players justify it and the machine has memory available for the operating system.
Use a repeatable start script
Save the command in a Windows batch file or a Linux shell script in the server root. A repeatable script prevents accidental changes to the JAR name, memory setting, or nogui option. Keep the script with the tested pack backup. If your host provides a startup field rather than a shell, enter the equivalent Java command and confirm that the host is launching Fabric rather than a vanilla JAR.

Read the startup log
A successful start should progress past Fabric initialization, load the installed mods, and leave the server ready for console commands. Stop the process with the normal stop command so the world and configuration files are flushed. Do not kill the process while it is writing a region or player file unless you are recovering from a crash.
Give every player a matching client installation
Install the same Minecraft and Fabric versions
Each player must launch Minecraft 1.18.1 with Fabric for 1.18.1. A client running another Minecraft release or another loader is not equivalent even if its menu appears similar.
Match Origins and the pack
Install Origins 1.3.2, Fabric API, and the same modpack versions used by the server. For the pack route, distribute the client files from the same Origins-serverpack 3.0.zip release or an explicitly prepared client pack. For a manual setup, use the server’s manifest and copy the exact versions rather than downloading whatever is newest.
Understand client-only and server-required files
Some mods are intended only for the client, while Origins and its gameplay dependencies must be available where the mod requires them. Follow each mod’s stated environment. Never assume that deleting a JAR from the client is harmless: a required registry, item, block, or origin definition can cause a failed handshake or missing-content error.
Distribute a stable copy
Zip the tested client-side folders or use the pack’s normal distribution method. Tell players to close Minecraft before replacing files, then launch the same Fabric profile. Keep the distribution copy unchanged while the group is playing; prepare a new numbered copy for an update.
Configure and administer the world
Edit server.properties
After the first successful start, stop the server and edit server.properties for the settings your group needs, such as the server name, difficulty, and other world behavior. Make one controlled change at a time and retain a backup of the working file.
Use the console for routine administration
The server console is the authoritative place to grant operator permissions, manage the whitelist, stop the server, and review errors. Give operator status only to trusted administrators. A whitelist is useful when the server should be private; test it with a non-operator account before sharing the address.

Set a backup schedule
Back up the world directory, server.properties, the mods folder, configuration files, the launch script, and your version manifest. Stop the server for a consistent full-world copy, or use a host’s documented snapshot system. Keep at least one backup away from the live machine and label each backup with Minecraft, Fabric, Origins, and pack versions.
Connect to the server
Test locally first
Join from the host machine or the same private network before inviting remote players. A local test distinguishes mod and loader problems from firewall, port-forwarding, DNS, or host-network problems.
Invite one player before the full group
Have one player with the verified client pack connect while you watch the server console. Confirm that an origin can be selected and that normal gameplay works before distributing the address widely. If the first remote connection fails, save the client and server logs before changing files.
Record the working combination
Write down the Minecraft release, Fabric loader, Java version, Origins version, pack filename, memory setting, and configuration changes. This short runbook is more valuable than relying on recollection when the server is moved or restored.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The server will not start or reports an unsupported class version. | The process is using the wrong Java major version. | Run java -version from the server’s actual launch environment and switch it to Java 17. |
| Fabric does not load, or the server behaves like vanilla. | The wrong JAR was launched, or Fabric was installed for another Minecraft release. | Verify the startup script points to the Fabric launcher and that both installer selections and generated files target 1.18.1. |
| A player is rejected during connection or sees a registry mismatch. | The client and server have different Minecraft, Fabric, Origins, dependency, or pack versions. | Compare both mods folders and the version manifest. Correct the mismatch rather than adding random JARs. |
| Origins content is missing. | Origins 1.3.2 or a required dependency is absent, misplaced, or the wrong environment version. | Check the server’s mods folder and confirm that the client has the matching gameplay files. |
| The pack appears installed but Fabric cannot find its files. | The ZIP was extracted inside an extra nested directory. | Move the pack’s contents into the server root beside the Fabric launcher, preserving the supplied folder structure. |
| The server starts, then crashes after adding a mod. | The new mod or one of its dependencies is incompatible with the 1.18.1 configuration. | Stop the server, remove the last change, restore the previous backup, and test the replacement only after checking its required versions. |
| A local player can join but a remote player cannot. | Network reachability, firewall, address, or host configuration rather than a mod mismatch. | Repeat the local test, inspect firewall and host settings, and verify that the chosen host permits custom Fabric files and Java 17. |
Compare logs before changing versions
Save the complete server log and the affected client’s log. Search for the first error in the startup or handshake sequence; later messages are often consequences. Compare filenames and versions first, then investigate dependencies. Replacing several files at once removes the evidence needed to identify the original cause.
Deploy on a managed Minecraft host
Fabric states that its server launcher can act as a drop-in replacement for a vanilla server JAR on Minecraft-specific hosts. That does not mean every host supports every Fabric pack. Confirm the details before buying or migrating a world.
Check Java-version control
The host must let the instance run Java 17 or provide a documented Java 17 runtime. If the control panel silently selects another version, the installation can fail even when the files are correct.
Best Value
Check custom-file support
Look for the ability to upload a custom Fabric launcher, ZIP contents, configuration files, and a startup command. A one-click vanilla-only panel is not sufficient for this setup.
Check modpack and backup tools
Useful features include custom mod or pack upload, scheduled backups, downloadable snapshots, file-manager access, console access, and a restore process that does not overwrite the wrong world. Ask whether the host can preserve the exact 1.18.1 instance rather than automatically upgrading it.
Check capacity and location
Compare available memory, player-slot limits, storage, CPU allocation, and geographic location for your players. Lower network latency improves responsiveness, but it cannot correct a Java, loader, or mod mismatch. Keep an independent backup even when the host advertises snapshots.
Update without breaking the world
Freeze a known-good release
Before updating, stop the server and copy the complete working directory or a verified backup. Record the current Java, Minecraft, Fabric, Origins, pack, and dependency versions.
Test updates separately
Duplicate the server directory and test the new pack or mod set against a copy of the world. Have at least one client use the same test files. Check startup, origin selection, existing player inventories, and a normal connection before promoting the update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUpdate the clients and server together
Do not update only the server or only the clients. Publish a new, clearly named client pack and a matching server backup. Tell players when the old pack will stop being accepted, and keep the previous release available for rollback.
