To host Avatar: The Next Generation reliably, build the server around the pack’s fixed target: Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge, and release 1.0.9.4 Reworked (May 7, 2022). Download the matching server files from the pack’s official CurseForge release, install them in a clean directory, accept the Minecraft EULA, start the server once, then align every client’s pack, Forge loader, Java runtime, and configuration before opening network access.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What version of Avatar: The Next Generation should the server use?
CurseForge identifies Avatar: The Next Generation as an Avatar-themed modpack by FiveNights2161. Its named release is 1.0.9.4 Reworked, published May 7, 2022, for Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. That is a legacy Forge pack, not a current NeoForge pack. Modpack Index’s cross-check lists Avatar Mod 2: Out of the Iceberg, Better Questing, and other adventure, magic, and utility components.

What you need before installing the server
- A computer or managed host that can run a dedicated Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server continuously.
- The exact 1.0.9.4 Reworked release and its server package, if one is supplied.
- A Java runtime supported by the selected Forge 1.12.2 build and by the pack’s instructions. Check the runtime in the host panel or your operating system rather than assuming that a runtime used for a modern Minecraft server is suitable.
- Storage for the world, mods, configuration files, logs, and backups. Leave additional free space so a backup or world conversion cannot fill the disk.
- Permission to run Java, create files, and open the server’s listening port.
- For a home server, control of the operating-system firewall and router. For a managed host, a panel that supports custom Forge files or an uploaded server pack.
Keep the server in its own directory instead of placing it in a client installation. A dedicated directory makes it possible to back up the world, replace a damaged configuration, and roll back a mod change without touching anyone’s launcher profile.
Where are the Avatar server files?
Start at the official CurseForge project page, open Files, select release 1.0.9.4 Reworked, and inspect Additional Files. CurseForge’s multiplayer guidance directs operators to that area when a project provides a server download.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not treat the client archive as a complete dedicated-server distribution. Some client profiles include rendering, shader, menu, or other client-only content that a server cannot load. Verify what the selected release actually provides before copying files.
If an official server package is listed
- Download the server package attached to the exact 1.0.9.4 Reworked release.
- Compare its readme or included instructions with the release page. Follow any stated install order or required generated files.
- Extract it into the empty server directory, preserving the folder structure. Do not merge it into an unrelated Forge world.
- Install the matching Forge server build for Minecraft 1.12.2 when the package does not already include it.
If no server package is listed
Install the Forge server for Minecraft 1.12.2 that matches the release, then copy the pack’s server-safe files into the new directory. Treat the absence of a package as a reason to verify every file, not as permission to upload the client profile unchanged. If the project author provides no server instructions, compare the server directory with the client profile and remove only content clearly identified as client-only; this release does not have a tested removal list in the available documentation.
How do I install the server on a PC?
The following workflow works for a self-hosted Windows or Linux machine; file names and service-management commands vary by operating system.

1. Create and document a clean directory
Create a directory used only for this server, such as an application folder dedicated to the pack. Avoid cloud-synchronized folders and locations where desktop launchers routinely rewrite files. Add a text file recording the pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, Java executable path, and the date of each change.
2. Install the matching Forge server
Use the Forge installer for Minecraft 1.12.2 that corresponds to the pack’s release requirements. Choose the server-install option and point it at the dedicated directory. If the installer creates a launcher jar or a generated startup script, keep those files together; do not rename them until the server is working.
3. Add the pack’s server files
Copy the contents of the verified server package into the Forge directory. When the package contains mods, config, scripts, or custom libraries, preserve their paths. If a file already exists, stop and compare the two versions rather than blindly overwriting it. A clean installation is easier to troubleshoot than a directory assembled by repeatedly copying different client profiles.
4. Start once, then stop cleanly
Run the generated Forge server launcher from the server directory with the host’s chosen memory settings and without a graphical interface. The first run normally creates files such as the world directory, server properties, logs, and an EULA file. Wait for startup output or a clear error, then stop the process using the server console rather than closing the terminal window.
Open latest.log and read the first meaningful error, not just the final “server stopped” line. Save that log if startup fails; it records the mod, class, or path that usually identifies the cause.

- Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!
5. Accept the Minecraft EULA
Running a server requires compliance with the Minecraft EULA. Open the generated EULA file, read the linked terms, and change the acceptance value only if you agree. Start the server again after saving the file. A server that stops immediately while reporting that the EULA has not been accepted is behaving as designed.
6. Set memory and startup behavior
Put the Java memory flags in the startup script used by the host, rather than typing different values manually each time. Choose an initial and maximum allocation appropriate to the number of players, the pack’s mod count, and the machine’s available memory; leave enough RAM for the operating system and other services. Watch the log and operating-system memory usage after several sessions. Excessive allocation can starve the host, while too little causes long pauses or an out-of-memory shutdown.
7. Confirm a clean stop and backup
Start the server until it reaches its ready state, join locally if possible, then issue the console stop command and wait for the save to finish. Back up the world, config, mods, scripts, server properties, and startup script before inviting friends. A backup made while files are being written may be unusable, so stop the server first or use a host’s documented live-backup method.
How should friends install the client?
- Have each player install the same launcher profile for Avatar: The Next Generation release 1.0.9.4 Reworked.
- Verify that the profile says Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge, not a newer game version or a different loader.
- Do not add optional mods, shaders, or configuration edits until a clean profile can connect. Change one item at a time and keep a copy of the working profile.
- Launch once to let the client create its files, then close it before replacing or comparing configuration files.
- Use the server’s address only after the server has reached its ready state and the local handshake succeeds.
The client and server do not need identical graphical settings, but they do need a compatible mod set and the same pack release, Minecraft version, and Forge loader. A client-only rendering component should stay on the client; a server-only component should not be copied into a client profile unless the pack’s instructions require it.
How do I make the server reachable from outside my home?
Home-hosted PC
- Choose the listening port in the server configuration and record it. The official pack material does not publish a pack-specific port.
- Allow Java or the server process through the operating-system firewall for that port.
- Create a router port-forwarding rule to the host computer’s local address. The exact screens and fields differ by router model and internet provider.
- Start the server and test from another network, such as a friend’s connection or a phone hotspot. Testing only from the same home network can hide forwarding errors.
- Give friends the public address and port only after the test succeeds. Never publish your private home address or router administration credentials.
Some internet connections use carrier-grade NAT or block inbound connections. In that case, ordinary port forwarding may not work; use a hosting service that supplies reachable networking or a private networking solution you trust. The pack itself does not change those ISP limitations.

Managed host
Use the provider’s Forge or custom-modpack workflow, upload the verified server package, select the matching Java runtime, and configure the panel’s allocated port. Confirm that the panel permits Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge rather than automatically installing a modern server type. Test the console and file manager before uploading a world, and enable scheduled backups before opening the server to friends.
Self-hosted PC or managed host: which is better?
| Decision factor | Self-hosted PC | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront and recurring cost | Uses hardware and electricity you already own; ongoing costs depend on power and internet service. | Requires a recurring hosting fee; the price and resource limits vary by provider. |
| File and Java/Forge control | Full control over directories, Java executable, Forge build, scripts, and logs. | Control depends on the panel; verify that custom jars, uploads, and the required Java runtime are allowed. |
| Legacy 1.12.2 upload support | You can install the matching Forge build directly. | Ask specifically whether Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge and custom server-pack uploads are supported; a generic “modded” plan is not proof. |
| Upload bandwidth and uptime | Limited by your home upload speed, power, router, and ISP reliability. | Datacenter connectivity and monitoring usually reduce home-network work, but availability depends on the provider and plan. |
| Firewall and port forwarding | You must configure both the operating-system firewall and router. | The provider normally supplies a reachable port, although panel or DNS setup may still be required. |
| Backups | You must schedule and test your own copies. | Some plans include automated backups; confirm retention, restore access, and whether world, configs, and scripts are included. |
| Version pinning | You decide exactly when to change Forge, mods, or pack files. | Verify that the provider lets you pin release 1.0.9.4 Reworked instead of forcing an update. |
Choose managed hosting for convenience only after confirming these legacy-pack requirements. A host advertising one-click modpacks may support a different Minecraft version, loader, or release. Ask support whether you can upload the exact server files, select the matching Forge build, retain custom configs, and restore a complete backup.
Recommended Free Tools
Why can’t my client join the server?
Check compatibility before changing network settings. Record the exact client profile, server directory version, Forge build, Java runtime, and the first relevant line in each side’s latest.log.
“Incompatible mod set” or a Forge handshake error
Compare the client’s mods directory with the server’s installed mod list and confirm that both came from release 1.0.9.4 Reworked. Remove an unapproved client addition or restore a missing server mod. Also check that the client did not silently update to another pack release.
The server reports a client-only mod or rendering class
A dedicated server cannot load client-rendering or shader-only content. Use the official server package if available. If you assembled the directory yourself, compare the pack instructions and logs, then remove only files confirmed to be client-only. Do not delete arbitrary mods to make the error disappear; a required gameplay mod can create a different failure.
The server stops during startup
- Confirm that the EULA file has the accepted value.
- Read the first stack trace in
latest.log, especially the named mod, missing class, or file path. - Verify the Java runtime and Forge build against the pack’s requirements.
- Restore the last known-good
modsandconfigbackup, then reapply one change at a time.
Friends time out, but local joining works
Check the server’s listening port, operating-system firewall rule, router forwarding target, and public address. Make sure the server is running while the external test is performed. If the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT, forwarding may be impossible without an alternative hosting or networking arrangement.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Local players can join, but the world rolls back
Stop the server cleanly, restore the most recent verified world backup, and inspect storage capacity and shutdown logs. Avoid copying a backup over an active world. If the rollback followed a mod or config change, return to the prior files before testing again.
Only one player fails to connect
Have that player create a clean client profile for the exact release and compare its Forge and mod files with a working player’s profile. A single-player failure usually points to local version drift, an extra mod, a damaged download, or a client configuration difference rather than router forwarding.
How do I update or change the server safely?
Treat every mod, config, Forge, or pack change as a migration.
- Announce downtime and stop the server cleanly.
- Copy the world,
mods, config, scripts, server properties, and logs to a dated backup location. - Write down the current working release and the intended change.
- Test the change on a duplicate server directory with a copy of the world. Never use the only production world as the test environment.
- Start the test server, review
latest.log, and connect with a client profile that has the same proposed files. - Only after a successful test, apply the change to production and keep the previous backup for rollback.
Do not combine a pack update, Forge update, Java change, and several new mods in one step. If the server fails, changing one variable at a time leaves you with a recoverable diagnosis.
Operational checklist for a stable server
- Pack release, Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge build, and Java runtime are documented and pinned.
- Server files came from the exact CurseForge release and, when available, its Additional Files server package.
- The server starts cleanly, reaches its ready state, and shuts down through the console.
- EULA acceptance is recorded and the server directory is not mixed with a client profile.
- Memory flags are stored in one startup script and leave resources for the host operating system.
- World, configs, mods, scripts, and server properties are backed up on a schedule and a restore has been tested.
- Home hosts have firewall and router rules tested from outside the local network; managed hosts have custom Forge support confirmed.
- Players use a clean 1.0.9.4 Reworked client profile before adding optional changes.
- Every error report includes the first relevant line from
latest.log, not only a screenshot of the final disconnect message.
Bottom line
Build around Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge and release 1.0.9.4 Reworked, obtain the server files from that exact CurseForge release, and keep the client and server profiles aligned. The difficult parts are not the initial file copy; they are verifying a real server package, excluding client-only content, accepting the EULA, allocating memory sensibly, exposing the correct port, and preserving backups. Once those controls are in place, you can run the pack from a home PC or a managed host without losing the ability to diagnose and roll back changes.
