To host an Attack of the B-Team server, download the pack’s Server Download from its page on the Technic Platform, extract it into a dedicated folder, and run the included launch file. The server must start the modded BTeam.jar, not the vanilla minecraft_server.1.6.4.jar. Use 64-bit Java, begin with roughly 3–4 GB allocated if the computer has enough memory, accept the EULA when prompted, and configure network access for the people joining.

Attack of the B-Team is a legacy Minecraft 1.6.4 modpack. Every player and the server need compatible versions of the pack and its mods. The setup below covers a server on your own computer, joining over your home network, and allowing friends to connect from outside it.

Before you begin: get the server files for the right pack
Use the official Attack of the B-Team page on the Technic Platform and choose its Server Download entry. Do not substitute a standard Minecraft server jar: the server download contains the modded files and configuration needed to run the pack. The Technic page also provides instructions for installing the client through the Technic Launcher.
Make a new, dedicated folder for the server, such as AttackOfTheBTeamServer, and extract the downloaded server package into it. Keep this folder separate from your client installation and from the client’s .technic directory. A separate server folder makes it easier to identify which files are running, preserve the package’s configuration, and back up the world without mixing server and client files.

Check the extracted files before starting
Look for the launch files included in the package and use those first. Technic’s general server guide describes a Windows batch file and a Linux or macOS shell script; its example command is shaped like java -Xmx4G forge.jar nogui. That is a general example, not a reason to replace the Attack of the B-Team package’s own launcher or jar name.
For this pack, the modded server jar is identified as BTeam.jar. The separate minecraft_server.1.6.4.jar is vanilla. If a launch file runs that vanilla jar, the server will not load the pack’s mods. Avoid deleting or replacing files just because their names look unfamiliar; the server package’s mod, configuration, and launch files work together.
Install Java and choose a starting memory allocation
Use 64-bit Java and check legacy compatibility
Use a 64-bit Java installation so the server can address the memory it needs. Technic’s general guidance says Java 8 works for Minecraft versions below 1.17, which includes this pack’s Minecraft 1.6.4 base. However, old Forge-based packs can be sensitive to the runtime they were built around. Start with the Java version or runtime documented by the downloaded server files. If the server fails on a newer Java build, test a legacy-compatible runtime rather than changing mods at random.

Make sure the launch script can find the intended Java installation. If multiple Java versions are installed, a script that simply calls java may use a different runtime than expected, depending on the computer’s path configuration. When diagnosing a launch failure, verify which Java is being invoked before assuming the modpack itself is broken.
Start with 3–4 GB for the server, if the computer can spare it
A historical Attack of the B-Team recommendation is 3 GB of server memory. Technic’s current general guide uses 4 GB in its example command. Treat 3–4 GB as a starting range, not a guaranteed requirement or a promise of performance: the right allocation depends on the world, number of players, other software running, and the host computer.
The allocated amount is not the computer’s total memory requirement. The operating system needs memory too, and the host needs additional headroom if someone is playing Minecraft on the same machine that runs the server. Do not allocate all available RAM to the server. If the machine begins paging heavily or becomes unresponsive, lower the allocation or run the server on a machine with more available memory.

Start the server and accept the EULA
- Open the dedicated server folder. Confirm that the extracted package and its launch files are there, rather than in the client’s Technic installation.
- Run the included launch file. On Windows, this is typically a
.batfile; on Linux or macOS, use the supplied.shfile. If the package’s launcher fails, inspect it to confirm that it points to the modded server files, especiallyBTeam.jar. - Let the first launch finish or stop. The initial run creates files, including
eula.txt. The server will not complete startup until the EULA is accepted. - Open
eula.txtin the server folder. Changeeula=falsetoeula=true, save the file, and close it. Make this change only if you agree to the Minecraft EULA. - Run the same launch file again. Keep the server window open while the server runs. Wait for startup to complete before trying to connect.
If the server repeats the EULA prompt, check that you edited eula.txt in the actual server directory used by the launch file. It is easy to change a similarly named file in a different folder and then rerun the server without affecting the active installation.
Make sure the server is actually running the modpack
Before inviting players, confirm that the launch script calls BTeam.jar and that startup proceeds as a modded Forge server. If the world starts but the game appears vanilla, check the jar name in the launch file. Running minecraft_server.1.6.4.jar starts a vanilla server and does not load the B-Team mod set.
Keep the complete mods and config content from the server download. Removing or replacing files can leave the server with an incomplete or incompatible mod set. Every player should select the same Attack of the B-Team build as the server package. A different build or missing mod can cause Forge connection errors even when the server is reachable over the network.

Let players connect
Test on the host computer first
On the computer running the server, connect to localhost. This tests whether the server is running and accepting local connections without involving the router or an external network. If this fails, resolve the server startup or local firewall issue before troubleshooting port forwarding.

Players on the host’s home network should connect using the host computer’s private LAN address. This address is different from the public address used by people outside the home. The host’s LAN address can change, so if a previously working connection stops after a router or computer restart, check that the host still has the address being shared.
Allow friends outside the home network to join
A private LAN address cannot be reached directly from the public internet. For outside players, forward the server’s configured port from the router to the computer running the server, allow the Java server through the operating-system firewall, and share the public address and port with friends when required. Technic’s setup guide also describes port tunneling as an alternative when router port forwarding is unavailable. Restart the server after changing the network setup.

A historical server-properties example uses port 25565. Preserve the port configured in the downloaded package unless you have a reason to change it. If you do change it, the router forwarding rule and the address players use must match that configured port; forwarding a different port will not direct traffic to the server’s listening port.
Test access in stages: first localhost on the host, then the host’s LAN address from another device at home, and only then an outside connection after forwarding or tunneling is configured. This sequence helps distinguish a server problem from a local-network or internet-access problem.

Troubleshoot common setup failures
The server starts, but it looks vanilla
- Open the launch file and verify that it runs
BTeam.jar. - If it runs
minecraft_server.1.6.4.jar, change back to the pack’s modded launcher or correct the jar reference using the files in the server download.
Forge reports missing mods or rejects a player
- Compare the client’s selected Attack of the B-Team build with the build used to create the server package.
- Restore the complete
modsandconfigcontent from the server download if files were removed or overwritten. - Check that all players are using the same pack build and mod set as the server.
The server will not start or crashes during launch
- Confirm the computer is using 64-bit Java.
- Check that enough memory is available for the server allocation as well as the operating system and any game client running on the same computer.
- Verify the Java version expected by the legacy pack files. The newest installed Java version is not necessarily the compatible one for an old Forge server.
- Use the package’s supplied launch file and server jar rather than swapping in a vanilla jar or changing mods to work around a Java error.
The EULA prompt keeps returning
Edit eula.txt in the active server folder, set eula=true, save it, and rerun the same launch file. If it still returns, verify that the launcher is not starting a second copy of the server from another directory.
Friends cannot connect
- Test
localhoston the host. If that fails, the issue is server startup or local access, not outside routing. - Test the host’s LAN address from another device on the same network. If that fails, check the host address and firewall.
- For an outside player, verify the router forwards the configured server port to the host computer and that the operating-system firewall permits the Java server.
- If port forwarding is unavailable, use a port-tunneling service and restart the server after changing the network setup.
- Give outside players the public address and the configured port when required; do not give them the host’s private LAN address.
Should you self-host or use a managed server?
Self-hosting keeps the server files and settings on your own machine, but that machine and its network connection must be available when people want to play. A managed server may reduce the need to keep a home computer on, but the exact Java and Forge support, file access, backup tools, performance, and service terms depend on the provider. Verify those details directly before choosing; current prices, uptime guarantees, and player capacity are not established here.

What to have ready before sharing the address
- The server package was downloaded from the pack’s Technic Platform page using Server Download.
- The package is extracted into a dedicated server folder, separate from the client installation.
- The included launcher starts the modded
BTeam.jar, not the vanilla 1.6.4 server jar. - The server has completed its first run, and
eula.txtis set toeula=true. - 64-bit Java and a compatible runtime are in use, with enough memory left for the operating system and any client game.
- Each player is using the same Attack of the B-Team build and mod set.
- Local connections work before you configure access for players outside the home network.
