How to Host an All the Mons Cobblemon Server: Complete Java Edition Setup

A practical Java Edition guide to hosting All the Mons Cobblemon: identify the exact release, match loader and dependencies, prepare the server, size RAM, configure access and test safely.

To host an All the Mons Cobblemon server, first identify the exact pack release and its Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build, Java requirement, and server-package instructions. Install that same release on every client and on the server, match every dependency, allocate enough memory, then configure your firewall and router (or use managed hosting) before testing with another player.

All the Mons’ exact manifest is not established here, so do not guess its loader, version, server-pack filename, or Java version. Read the release’s official project page first; mixing files from different releases is the most common cause of failed starts and client disconnects.

What you need before installing

Use Minecraft Java Edition

Cobblemon is a Minecraft Java Edition mod. The official Cobblemon installation documentation states that it is not available for Bedrock Edition. Every player therefore needs the Java Edition launcher and a PC installation that can run the pack.

Record the five values for your All the Mons release

Open the pack’s official project page and write down these values before downloading anything:

  • Minecraft version: for example, a 1.21.x release. Do not assume that a newer Minecraft version is compatible.
  • Mod loader: Fabric or NeoForge (or the loader explicitly named by the pack maintainer).
  • Cobblemon build: the exact version included by that pack release.
  • Java requirement: use the major Java version specified for that release.
  • Server distribution: whether the project publishes a dedicated server package, and the filename or installation procedure it documents.

The official Cobblemon installation page currently displays Minecraft 1.21.1, but that does not prove that every All the Mons release uses 1.21.1. Treat the pack’s own release manifest as authoritative for your installation.

Choose self-hosting or managed hosting

You can run the server on a computer at home or rent a managed Minecraft server. Both approaches can work; the right choice depends on how much control and administration you want.

Consideration Home server Managed server
Upfront and recurring cost Uses hardware and electricity you already have; no hosting subscription, but you carry upgrade and replacement costs. Recurring rental cost; the provider supplies the server hardware and control panel.
Files, mods and backups Full access to files, scripts, worlds and backup destinations. Usually managed through a panel and file manager; verify that the plan permits the exact All the Mons loader and release and allows your preferred backup method.
Public access You must configure the operating-system firewall and router, and your internet connection must accept incoming connections. The provider normally exposes the service and gives you an address; you still configure the game and permissions.
Resources RAM, CPU, storage and bandwidth are limited by your machine and connection. Limits depend on the purchased plan; check memory, CPU sharing, storage and transfer policies.
Uptime The server is available only while the host computer, network and power remain online. Data-center power and network infrastructure generally remove the home-PC dependency, but no uptime figure should be assumed without a provider’s current terms.
Support You troubleshoot Java, loader errors, ports and backups yourself. Support may help with the panel or machine; confirm that it supports your specific pack and loader rather than only vanilla Minecraft.

The Cobblemon project says it does not operate an official server. Its project listing points users toward public servers or commercial hosting, naming BisectHosting as an example provider. That mention is not an endorsement of a particular plan, location or All the Mons version; verify current availability directly with any host.

Install the exact client pack

Players must run the same compatible release as the server. The official Cobblemon documentation supports Modrinth, Prism and CurseForge launchers. Use whichever launcher distributes the All the Mons project, and select the exact release recorded in the previous section.

  1. Install or update the launcher you intend to use.
  2. Search for the official All the Mons project, not an unrelated fork or similarly named profile.
  3. Select the release whose Minecraft version and loader match your server plan. Record the release date or version string so every player installs the same one.
  4. Let the launcher install the pack and its declared dependencies. Do not add a different Cobblemon version, loader, performance mod or library until the base pack launches successfully.
  5. Start the profile once. Stop at the title screen, then close the game so the launcher finishes creating its instance files.

If one player uses a manually assembled profile while another uses the launcher’s managed profile, compare the actual mod lists and versions rather than relying on the profile name. A one-file difference can prevent a connection.

Prepare the server package

When a dedicated server package exists

Use the server package published for the same All the Mons release. A dedicated package normally supplies the loader, mods and configuration in a layout intended for a server. Keep it in a separate directory from your client instance and do not copy a client profile over it.

The official Cobblemon Fabric distribution includes a server package and states that it can connect with vanilla Cobblemon clients and servers. That fact applies to that official Fabric distribution; it does not establish that All the Mons publishes a server package or that its package has the same contents.

When no server package is published

Follow the pack maintainer’s documented server procedure. Some projects provide a server installer; others require you to install the loader first and then copy only server-compatible mods. Remove client-only mods exactly as the maintainer instructs. Do not delete a mod merely because its name sounds cosmetic: some libraries are required by gameplay mods, while others are safe only on the client.

If the project gives no server instructions, stop before opening the server to the internet and ask the maintainer which release, loader and dependencies are supported. Guessing produces an installation that may start but fail when a player joins.

Match loader, Minecraft and dependencies

The server and every client must use the same compatible release, loader and dependency set. Check the launcher’s mod list against the server directory after installation.

  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Installation path Dependency called out by official Cobblemon documentation What to verify
Fabric Fabric API Use the Fabric API version required by the selected Cobblemon and Minecraft versions.
Forge or NeoForge Kotlin Install the Kotlin dependency required by that loader path and by the selected release.

Do not mix Fabric and NeoForge files. A NeoForge server cannot load Fabric mods simply because both are intended for the same Minecraft version. Likewise, a server running one Cobblemon build can reject a client running another even when the loader matches.

Start the server safely for the first time

  1. Create a new server directory with enough free storage for the initial world, generated chunks, logs and backups.
  2. Copy or install the matching server package into that directory.
  3. Use the launch script supplied by the pack. If the maintainer provides a Java command, copy it exactly and change only the memory values you understand. Do not invent a jar filename or Java version when the release documentation specifies different values.
  4. Start the server once and wait for it to finish generating its initial files. The first run may stop and ask you to accept Minecraft’s EULA; if so, read the EULA, change the generated setting only if you agree, and start again.
  5. Read the console for loader, dependency or Java errors before attempting a connection. Keep the complete log from this first run; it is valuable when asking the pack maintainer for help.
  6. Stop the process cleanly using the server console’s stop command. Avoid killing the window while the world is saving.

Use the Java major version named by the All the Mons release. A server that launches under an unsupported Java version can fail with class-version errors, missing modules or unexplained crashes, so “the newest Java” is not automatically the correct choice.

How much RAM does an All the Mons server need?

Memory depends on the pack, view distance, world activity and number of players. The figures below are published recommendations for Cobblemon distributions, not a measured capacity guarantee for All the Mons.

Memory Source and meaning How to use it
2.5 GB The official Cobblemon Fabric pack’s minimum recommendation, listed by CobbledStudios on CurseForge in its 2026 listing. A starting floor for the official Fabric pack; it may be insufficient for a larger All the Mons pack or busy world.
3 GB or more The same official pack’s recommendation for best performance. A more sensible baseline for a small installation when the All the Mons documentation does not require more.
About 8 GB A community Cobblemon Realms guide’s starting recommendation for a 1.21.1 NeoForge server, accessed in 2026. A community starting point for a heavier NeoForge setup, not an official All the Mons requirement.

Allocate memory only after checking what the pack contains. Leave RAM for the operating system and other services; assigning all physical memory to Java can make the host unstable. Increase the allocation in measured steps if logs show memory exhaustion, rather than treating a larger number as a substitute for matching dependencies or reducing an excessive view distance.

Make a home server reachable

On the server computer

  • Allow the Java server process through the operating system’s firewall when prompted, or create a narrowly scoped inbound rule for the server port shown in the server configuration.
  • Keep the server computer on a stable wired or wireless connection and prevent sleep while the world is online.
  • Use a private address for administration and share only the external address needed by your players.

On the router

  1. Give the server computer a consistent local address, using your router’s DHCP reservation feature if available.
  2. Create a port-forwarding rule from the router’s configured Minecraft server port to that computer’s local address and the same port.
  3. Check whether your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT. If it does, ordinary port forwarding may not expose the server; ask the provider for a public address or use managed hosting.
  4. Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. Testing only from inside your home network can succeed even when outside players cannot connect.

Share the reachable address privately. If you change routers, internet providers or the server computer’s local address, recheck the forwarding rule before troubleshooting mods.

  • When you're down to one card, don't forget to yell "UNO"!

Use managed hosting when networking is the bottleneck

A managed host can remove the home requirements for port exposure, power and local maintenance. Before paying, verify all of the following in the current plan documentation:

  • The exact All the Mons Minecraft version and loader are supported.
  • You can upload or install the pack’s server package and edit its configuration.
  • The plan provides enough dedicated or guaranteed memory for the pack, not merely a headline RAM number shared with other services.
  • You can download complete world, dimension, player-data and configuration backups.
  • The control panel lets you select the Java version required by the pack.
  • Support will investigate mod-loader and pack issues rather than limiting assistance to vanilla servers.

The provider’s current price, location availability and supported pack versions can change, so confirm them at purchase time. Cobblemon itself does not provide a universal official server plan.

Back up before updates

Updating a modded world without a recoverable copy can permanently damage chunks or player data. The community Cobblemon hosting guide recommends a complete backup before updates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Announce downtime and stop the server cleanly.
  2. Copy the entire world directory, including every dimension folder.
  3. Copy player data, server properties, permissions, scripts, the mods directory and all configuration files.
  4. Store the backup outside the live server directory and label it with the old All the Mons release, Minecraft version, loader and date.
  5. Install the new server package and update every client to the same release.
  6. Start the server and inspect the log before allowing players back in. If the update fails, stop the server and restore the complete backup rather than mixing old and new files.

Test the finished server with a second player

Do not treat a clean console start as proof that the installation is ready. Use a second account or trusted friend who is not on the host’s local network when possible.

  • Confirm the client reaches the server without a missing-mod or mismatched-version message.
  • Generate or load terrain and walk far enough to test new chunk generation.
  • Verify that Pokémon spawn as expected and that capturing, battling and other pack-specific interactions work.
  • Check that the intended permissions let ordinary players play without giving them administrative access.
  • Stop and restart the server, then confirm that the world, player inventory and configuration persist.
  • Review the log after the test for repeated warnings, tick delays or stack traces.

Troubleshoot by symptom

The server stops immediately

Check the Java version, loader choice and the first error in the log. Confirm that the server package is for the recorded Minecraft version and that no client-only mod was copied into the server. Remove nothing else until the pack maintainer’s instructions identify it.

The client says the versions or mods do not match

Compare the client and server manifests line by line: Minecraft version, Fabric or NeoForge loader, Cobblemon build, required libraries and every mod version. Reinstalling the exact launcher release is usually safer than replacing individual files from a different pack version.

Players cannot connect from outside the house

Recheck the server’s firewall rule, the router’s forwarding destination and the address shared with players. Test from a separate network and investigate carrier-grade NAT before changing mods or world files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The server runs but becomes unstable under activity

Check available memory and the pack’s documented requirements. The official 2.5 GB minimum and 3 GB performance recommendation apply to the official Fabric pack, while a community guide starts a 1.21.1 NeoForge server at about 8 GB. All the Mons may need a different allocation; use its release documentation and logs rather than treating any figure as a player-capacity guarantee.

An update breaks the world

Stop the server, restore the complete pre-update backup and return clients to the old release. Then review the new release’s migration notes and repeat the update only after confirming its loader, Java requirement and dependency changes.

Final launch checklist

  • All players and the server use the same All the Mons release.
  • Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build and Java major version match the release manifest.
  • The server package is the maintainer’s package for that release, with client-only files handled as documented.
  • Required loader dependencies, including Fabric API or Kotlin where applicable, are present in compatible versions.
  • Memory allocation follows the pack’s guidance, with capacity left for the host operating system.
  • Firewall and router rules expose only the configured server port.
  • A complete backup exists before the first update.
  • A second player has tested joining, gameplay, saving and restart recovery.
