Plan RAM, Java and storage before installation
The official All The Mods server guide says to allocate at least 6 GB of RAM for most ATM packs. The general ATM guidance recommends 8–12 GB as the maximum allocation for most packs and calls for a computer with at least 16 GB of total system RAM. These are starting points, not a guarantee: player count, view distance, active machines, chunk activity and other server settings change the actual requirement.
| Resource guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| 6 GB allocated RAM | Minimum starting allocation stated by the server guide for most ATM packs. |
| 8–12 GB allocated RAM | General recommended maximum range for most packs; increase only when observed workload justifies it. |
| 16 GB system RAM | Recommended total memory for the computer running the server, including the operating system and any other applications. |
Server allocation is not the same as the machine’s total memory. Giving Java nearly all available system RAM can make the operating system swap or become unresponsive. Leave room for the operating system, remote-administration tools and monitoring. Start with the lower end that fits your player count, then measure behavior before increasing it.

No ATMVB-specific Java major version is stated. Use the Java version required by the exact Minecraft 1.19.2 server-file release and by the startup package supplied with it. Do not assume that the system default Java is correct. If the launcher exits immediately, prints an unsupported-class-version error or reports that Java is unavailable, check the active Java executable and switch to the version required by the pack.
Choose a suitable machine
- Use a dedicated folder with read and write access rather than a protected operating-system directory.
- Provide enough free disk space for the extracted files, the world, logs and backups; no fixed disk size is specified because world growth depends on exploration and activity.
- Prefer a wired or otherwise stable network connection for a home server.
- Keep the machine awake while players are expected to connect and ensure your firewall and network policy permit the service according to your own hosting environment.
Download the official Server Files archive
- Open the All the Mods: Volcano Block project page on CurseForge.
- Select the release you intend to run.
- Open that release’s additional files and locate the entry labeled Server Files.
- Download the matching archive. For the release identified in this guide, that is
serverfiles-1.0.8.zipfrom the Minecraft 1.19 Server Packs section. - Keep the archive so you can verify the version later or rebuild the installation without mixing files from another release.
Never combine a server archive from one ATMVB release with a client installation from another. Even a small version mismatch can produce missing-mod, registry or network-handshake errors.

Install ATMVB locally on Windows
1. Create and extract into a dedicated folder
Create a folder such as C:MinecraftATMVB (the exact path is up to you) and extract the complete Server Files archive into it. The account running the server must be able to create and modify files there. Avoid extracting only part of the ZIP or nesting the real files several levels below the folder you plan to use.
2. Run the supplied startup script
- Open the extracted folder in File Explorer.
- Double-click
startserver.bat, or run it from a Command Prompt opened in that folder. - Allow the first run to continue. It generates or completes the server files and may take considerably longer than later starts.
Do not close the window merely because the first launch appears idle. Stopping the installer before it finishes can leave an incomplete installation.
3. Accept the EULA
- After the first run stops or reports that the EULA must be accepted, open the generated
eula.txt. - Change the setting from
eula=falsetoeula=true, then save the file. - Run
startserver.batagain.
The EULA change is a required second-stage action; the server will not complete a normal start while it remains false.
Install ATMVB locally on Linux
1. Extract into a writable directory
Place the Server Files archive in a dedicated directory owned by the account that will run the server, then extract it there. Keeping ownership consistent avoids later failures when the server tries to write logs, world data or configuration files.

- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.

- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
2. Grant execute permission to the startup script
From the server directory, the official guide gives this example:
sudo chmod +x startserver.sh
If you do not have sudo access, an administrator can apply the permission or the file owner can use an equivalent permission change allowed by the host. Verify that the script is executable before troubleshooting Java or mod errors.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →3. Start the server and complete the EULA step
- Run
./startserver.shfrom the extracted directory. - Let the first run finish creating the server files.
- Open
eula.txt, changeeula=falsetoeula=true, and save it. - Run
./startserver.sha second time.
Use a terminal session that will not terminate when you disconnect, or use your normal service/session-management method, so the process remains available after you leave the shell. The exact service manager is an operating-system choice and is not part of the ATMVB pack.
Finish the first startup and configure safely
Wait for the console to report that the dedicated server has loaded. The official guide describes the successful checkpoint as: “When it says Dedicated server took xx seconds to load you’re good to go and can join the server.” The number of seconds varies by hardware and workload; the important point is that startup has completed rather than merely begun.

Use server.properties deliberately
After the first successful launch, you can edit server.properties, pack configuration files, or world/serverconfigs for a specific reason. Make one change at a time and keep a copy of the original so you can identify a bad setting.
Leave server-ip unchanged unless your hosting environment specifically requires a bind address. The server guide warns that changing it is usually unnecessary and can prevent startup. A blank or default value is often safer than entering an address copied from a different machine.

- Keep the world, configuration, logs and startup scripts in the same dedicated server directory.
- Do not overwrite configuration or KubeJS files casually when testing an update.
- Record the ATMVB release, Minecraft version, Forge build and Java version alongside your backup notes.
Connect players with matching client files
Install the same ATMVB pack release on every client. The client must also use the same Minecraft 1.19.2 and Forge combination as the server. A player running a different release can be refused during the handshake or encounter missing content even if the server itself starts normally.
- Start the server and wait for the fully loaded message.
- Give players the server address appropriate to your network or hosting provider.
- Have each player select the matching ATMVB profile in the launcher.
- Connect only after the client has finished loading the same modpack version.
If one player cannot join while others can, compare that player’s pack version, Minecraft version, Forge version and local configuration before changing server files.

Host ATMVB with a managed server provider
A managed host can remove much of the operating-system work. Some control panels offer a modpack installer or one-click update. If the panel does not list ATMVB, create a fresh Forge environment appropriate for the pack and upload the extracted Server Files through FTP, SFTP or the provider’s file manager. Some panels require you to select a custom JAR or configure a ServerStarter entry; follow that panel’s documented startup method while retaining the ATMVB files from the matching archive.
Evaluate a host on capabilities, not an advertised pack name
| Check | Question to ask before ordering |
|---|---|
| Forge support | Can the panel run the Forge and Minecraft combination required by the ATMVB release? |
| Installer | Does the modpack installer list the exact ATMVB release, or will you upload Server Files yourself? |
| File access | Can you use FTP/SFTP or a file manager to edit server.properties, configs and KubeJS files? |
| Custom startup | Can the host select a custom JAR or ServerStarter configuration when the panel does not provide a one-click option? |
| Backups | Are automated backups available, and can you download or restore them independently? |
| CPU performance | What processor resources are assigned, and are they shared or dedicated? |
| Storage | Is there enough room for the extracted pack, world growth, logs and backup copies? |
| Location | Is the data-center location close enough to the intended players for acceptable latency? |
No host price, uptime figure or commission arrangement is established here, so compare those details directly with each provider. Confirm support for the exact Forge/modpack release rather than relying on a generic “modded Minecraft” label.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTypical managed-host deployment
- Order a plan whose memory and CPU resources fit the expected ATMVB workload.
- Use the panel’s modpack installer if it offers the exact release.
- If it does not, select the required Forge environment, stop the server, and upload the extracted Server Files through FTP/SFTP or the file manager.
- Set the panel’s startup JAR or ServerStarter option if required.
- Start the server, wait for the dedicated-server-loaded message, and complete the EULA edit if the host has not already created it.
- Check the generated logs for Java, Forge or missing-file errors before giving the address to players.
Back up before updates or major changes
Stop the server cleanly before copying its files. Always back up the world before updating ATMVB, Forge, Java or a configuration that affects world generation. Keep at least one copy outside the live server directory so a failed update cannot destroy both the installation and its only backup.
Update in the existing folder
- Stop the running server and make a complete backup.
- Download the new release’s matching Server Files archive.
- Replace the pack directories in the existing installation with the directories from the new archive, taking care not to erase data you intend to retain.
- Review configuration and KubeJS changes before restarting.
- Start the server and watch the console for migration or missing-content errors.
Update into a clean folder
- Create a new directory and extract the new Server Files archive into it.
- Copy the existing
worldandlocaldirectories into the new installation. - Copy
server.properties,eula.txtand any modified configuration or KubeJS files that you intentionally want to preserve. - Keep the old directory unchanged until players have connected successfully to the new one.
The clean-folder method makes rollback easier because the previous installation remains available. Do not copy every old file indiscriminately: a stale mod, script or configuration can defeat the purpose of the new server files.
Troubleshoot the most common startup and connection failures
| Symptom | Likely checkpoint | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The script will not run on Linux | Missing execute permission | From the server directory, apply the required permission, for example sudo chmod +x startserver.sh, then run ./startserver.sh again. |
| The first launch stops before creating a usable server | Installer was interrupted | Restore the extracted Server Files, run the script again and allow the first process to finish before closing it. |
| The server immediately reports a Java or class-version error | Wrong Java major version or Java executable | Check the Java requirement for the exact ATMVB/Minecraft release and verify which Java binary the startup script uses. |
| The server refuses to start after editing properties | Invalid bind setting | Undo unnecessary changes, especially a manually entered server-ip, and retry with the original value. |
| A client is rejected during login | Client/server version mismatch | Compare ATMVB release, Minecraft 1.19.2, Forge version and relevant configuration on both sides. |
| The console never reaches the loaded message | Startup still running or a mod/configuration failure | Wait for the first generation step to finish, then inspect the console and logs for the first explicit error rather than repeatedly restarting. |
| Players experience lag as activity grows | Workload exceeds the initial allocation | Review player count, view distance, world activity and other server settings; adjust resources or settings based on observed usage instead of assigning all system RAM immediately. |
Local computer or managed host?
| Decision factor | Local hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Uses hardware you already own, but electricity and maintenance remain your responsibility. | Recurring provider charge; exact prices vary and were not established here. |
| Maintenance | You manage Java, Forge, scripts, updates and operating-system security. | The panel can simplify deployment and some routine administration. |
| Backups | You choose the backup schedule and storage location. | Backup tools may be built in; verify retention, downloads and restores. |
| Performance control | You control the physical CPU, memory and background processes. | Performance depends on the provider’s assigned or shared resources. |
| File access | Full local access to every file. | Depends on FTP/SFTP, file-manager and custom-JAR features. |
| Network location | Latency follows your home or office connection and availability. | You can select among the provider’s available geographic locations. |
| Best fit | Owners comfortable administering a computer and network. | Groups that prefer a control panel and provider-managed availability. |
Choose local hosting when you need full control and already have a reliable machine. Choose a managed host when simplified deployment, remote access and provider infrastructure matter more than direct hardware control. In either case, the decisive compatibility check is support for the exact ATMVB Server Files release, Minecraft version and Forge environment.
