Plan on 8 GB when several friends will play. The server archive and every player’s client must use the same pack and Minecraft version; a mismatch is the most common reason a technically correct installation will not let players connect.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
You can either run the server on your own computer or rent a managed Minecraft instance. Self-hosting costs less after the hardware is available but requires Java, firewall, networking and update maintenance. A managed host installs LL5 from a template and handles the machine, so it is usually faster for a public or always-on server.

TNP Limitless 5, usually abbreviated LL5, is a large Forge modpack for Minecraft Java Edition distributed through CurseForge. Hosting it means running the dedicated Forge server supplied in the pack’s LL5 Server Files download, not launching the normal client on a second computer. Players still install the client pack through their launcher and connect to the address of the dedicated server.
The pack contains roughly 400 to more than 500 mods, depending on the source and the specific release being counted. That scale affects startup time, memory use and update work. Treat LL5 as a heavy modded server rather than as a lightly modified vanilla world.

Confirm the exact release before installing anything
Version information for LL5 is inconsistent across current listings, and pack files change. The CurseForge project, the Minecraft Forum discussion and MineWonderland identify Minecraft 1.18.2; the Modpack Index also describes LL5 as a Forge 1.18.2 pack. ScalaCube’s listing says 1.18.1. Use the manifest and Files tab for the release your players will install, not a host’s older description.
The project lists server-files version 2.34.1 as the latest in its Minecraft 1.18 Server Packs section, while version 2.34.0 is dated August 2023 in that listing. StickyPiston also labels 2.34.1 as latest, although its page is described as about 600 days old. A client file such as 2.20.2 has its own server-files download, so do not assume that the newest server archive is compatible with every client release.
The matching rule
- Choose the exact LL5 client file that every player will install.
- Record its pack version and Minecraft version from the CurseForge Files tab or the downloaded manifest.
- Download the LL5 Server Files archive carrying that same pack version.
- Do not mix a 2.34.1 server with a 2.20.2 client, or a 1.18.2 server with a 1.18.1 client, unless the pack publisher explicitly states that combination is supported.
Keep a copy of the manifest with your server notes. If a host’s one-click catalog shows a different Minecraft or pack version, stop and verify before creating the world.
Java, memory and other requirements
Java 17, not Java 8
The LL5 CurseForge page directs users to Java 17. Java 8 instructions that appear in some search results belong to the older TNP Limitless 1 (LL1) pack for Minecraft 1.14.4, not LL5. Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime and confirm the executable that your server script will use. On a command line, java -version should report a Java 17 release; if it reports Java 8 or a different major version, correct the system path or the script’s Java path before starting Forge.
How much RAM to allocate
No official server-memory figure from the pack author was identified. Hosting providers give different practical estimates, so use them as operating guidance rather than as a guaranteed specification.
| Source or use case | Published figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| BisectHosting | 5 GB | Described as enough to run smoothly in its LL5 hosting material. |
| StickyPiston | 6 GB minimum; 7 GB or more for friends or a public server | A conservative floor and a higher target for more concurrent players. |
| ScalaCube | At least 8 GB | The most generous baseline among the provider estimates. |
| Practical starting recommendation | 6 GB minimum; 8 GB for a group | A provider-based recommendation, not an official pack-author requirement. |
Allocate only memory your machine or plan can actually spare. Leaving no RAM for the operating system can make the server unstable even when the Java heap value looks adequate. The 6-to-8 GB guidance above is for the dedicated server. CurseForge’s 6 GB, possibly 8 GB or more, client recommendation should not be presented as a server requirement.

CPU, disk and network planning
The available LL5 material does not publish a CPU model, disk quota or bandwidth minimum. Use a modern 64-bit system, leave free disk space for the world, logs and backups, and prefer a wired connection for a self-hosted machine. A large modpack can take longer to start and save than vanilla Minecraft, so avoid treating a long first launch as proof that the installation failed.
Option one: self-host LL5 on your own machine
Self-hosting gives you control over files, backups and configuration. It also makes you responsible for Java updates, firewall rules, port forwarding, crashes and keeping the server and client releases aligned.
1. Select a fixed client release
Ask players to agree on one LL5 file before you download the server. Open the LL5 project in CurseForge, use the Files tab to identify the Minecraft and pack versions, and write both values down. If you are joining an existing group, copy the exact version from the launcher profile rather than relying on memory.
2. Download the matching server archive
Open the server-files download attached to that client release and save the LL5 Server Files archive. Do not substitute a generic Forge installer, a server archive from another TNP pack or an archive whose version is merely close. Extract the files into a dedicated directory such as an LL5 server folder, separate from your client installation and from unrelated worlds.
3. Install and verify Java 17
- Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime on the host computer.
- Open a new terminal or command prompt so the updated path is loaded.
- Run
java -versionand confirm the major version is 17. - If the archive’s startup script names a Java executable explicitly, update that path to the Java 17 installation when necessary.
The exact Forge installer and startup-script names are supplied inside the downloaded archive and can differ between releases. Follow those included files instead of copying a command from another Minecraft version.
4. Set the memory value in the supplied launcher
Use the archive’s start script or configuration file to set the Java heap. Begin at 6 GB for a small private group and move to 8 GB when the player count, exploration area or mod activity requires it. Express the value in the format the script already uses; do not create a second competing script with different values. Keep enough memory for the operating system and any monitoring or backup process.
5. Accept the Minecraft EULA
Run the included server launcher once. Forge may stop after generating its initial files and an EULA file. Open that file, read the license, change the acceptance setting to true only if you agree, save it, and run the same launcher again. If the archive provides a dedicated installer step before the start script, complete that step exactly as documented in the archive.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
6. Wait for a complete Forge startup
The first successful launch can take substantially longer than later launches because Forge and the mods build caches and generate configuration files. Watch the console for a final ready message and for repeated error or crash lines. A window that closes immediately usually indicates a Java-path problem, a missing archive file, an incorrect script invocation or insufficient memory; read the last lines of the log before changing settings.
7. Configure the world before inviting players
Stop the server cleanly through its console command, then review the generated configuration files and the server properties file. Set the world name, difficulty, game mode, player limit and whitelist according to your group. Make a backup before changing mod configuration, and change one setting at a time so a failed launch can be traced to the last edit.
8. Make the server reachable
For players on the same home network, give them the host computer’s local address and the port shown in the server properties. For players on the internet, allow that port through the operating system firewall and forward it from the router to the server computer. Use the external address supplied by your network, and check whether your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT; in that case ordinary port forwarding may not work and a managed host or a private virtual network may be required.
Never disable the firewall for the entire computer as a shortcut. Create a rule limited to the server application or port, keep the operating system updated, and whitelist players while you test.
9. Test with one client first
- Start the server and wait for its ready state.
- Connect from the host or local network using the server’s local address.
- Connect from a second network, such as a phone hotspot, if you intend to accept internet players.
- Confirm that the joining client uses the identical LL5 and Minecraft versions.
- Only after a clean test should you publish the address to the whole group.
Option two: use managed LL5 hosting
A managed host supplies the machine, network access and control panel. The setup is quicker, but the available pack version, RAM tier and upgrade policy are controlled by that provider. Read the selected template’s Minecraft and LL5 versions before ordering.

BisectHosting
Its LL5 instructions describe choosing Minecraft in the server selector and selecting TNP Limitless 5 so the installation is automatic. Confirm the template’s pack version and the plan’s allocated memory; the provider’s 5 GB statement is an operating estimate, while a larger group should follow the 6-to-8 GB guidance above.

ScalaCube
In its control panel, add a game server and choose TNP Limitless 5 – LL5. ScalaCube lists LL5 as Minecraft 1.18.1, which conflicts with the 1.18.2 references in the project and other listings. Treat that label as a reason to inspect the installed manifest and ask support which release the template actually deploys.
ZAP-Hosting
Its LL5 material describes ordering a server that is set up automatically and preconfigured. Check the exact pack release, Java runtime and memory included in the selected plan rather than assuming that “preconfigured” means every client version is supported.
Other providers may list a TNP Limitless variant without offering LL5 specifically. A listing for LL8, for example, does not prove LL5 availability. Search the provider’s current modpack catalog for the exact name and version before paying.

Choosing between self-hosting and a managed plan
| Consideration | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Download files, install Java 17, configure memory, EULA, firewall and router. | Select an LL5 template; installation is generally automated. |
| Control | Full access to server files, configs, backups and logs. | Control-panel access depends on the provider. |
| Networking | You handle public addressing, forwarding and firewall rules. | The provider supplies the network endpoint. |
| Maintenance | You perform updates, restarts and recovery. | The provider maintains the machine, while you still manage pack and world changes. |
| Best fit | A technically confident owner with a suitable always-on computer. | A group that values quick deployment or does not want home-network administration. |
Common failures and targeted fixes
“Incompatible mod set” or a refused connection
Compare the client’s pack version, Minecraft version and mod list with the server archive. Reinstall the client profile from the same release used to obtain the server files. Do not copy individual jars from a different LL5 release to force a connection; that can create harder-to-diagnose registry and world problems.
The server exits with a Java error
Check java -version, then inspect the archive’s script for a hard-coded Java path. LL5 requires Java 17 according to the CurseForge project guidance. Remove Java 8 from the script’s path when it is being selected accidentally, and restart the terminal after changing environment variables.
Out-of-memory errors or severe lag
Confirm that the configured heap is actually 6 GB or more and that the host has additional memory for the operating system. Move to 8 GB for a larger group, reduce simultaneous exploration while testing, and check the console for a mod-specific crash. Increasing the heap cannot repair a mismatched mod set or a faulty configuration.

The first launch appears frozen
Large Forge packs can spend several minutes loading and generating files. Watch CPU, disk activity and the log. If the process continues producing log entries, let it finish. If it stops at the same error on every attempt, save the final stack trace and investigate that named mod or missing file rather than repeatedly restarting.

Verify the server’s listening address and port, the operating-system firewall rule and the router’s forwarding target. Test from a genuinely different network. If the public address changes, use the current address or a dynamic-DNS service you control. Carrier-grade NAT or a blocked inbound port may require managed hosting.
The world becomes damaged after a change
Stop the server, restore the most recent known-good world backup and return the server to the exact pack release that created it. Keep a separate backup before every pack update or major configuration edit. Never test an upgrade only on the live copy of a valued world.
Updating LL5 safely
Because the latest listed server files and client files do not necessarily share the same version number, treat an update as a coordinated migration.
- Choose the target client release and confirm its Minecraft version.
- Download that release’s matching LL5 Server Files archive.
- Read the archive’s included notes and compare its Forge and mod files with the running server.
- Stop the old server cleanly and create a full copy of the world, configuration and scripts.
- Install the new files in a separate directory or on a staging instance.
- Start the staging server, allow migrations to finish, and test with a copy of the client.
- Schedule downtime, replace the live files only after the test succeeds, and tell every player which client release to install.
Do not downgrade a world casually. A newer mod or Forge version may alter data in a way that an older server cannot safely read.
Operational checklist for an always-on server
- Record the LL5 pack version, Minecraft version and Java 17 path beside the startup script.
- Keep the server directory separate from client downloads and unrelated worlds.
- Back up the world, configuration and scripts on a schedule and before every update.
- Use a whitelist until connectivity and permissions are tested.
- Review logs after restarts and investigate repeated warnings instead of hiding them.
- Restart during a planned maintenance window rather than killing the Java process.
- Give trusted operators only the permissions they need.
- Tell players to use the same client release and to remove stale profiles when troubleshooting.
- Keep the host operating system, Java runtime and router firmware maintained.
- Write down the recovery procedure so another adult can restore the server if the owner is unavailable.
Pre-launch decision checklist
Choose self-hosting when you already have an always-on 64-bit computer, can allocate at least 6 GB of server memory, and are comfortable with firewall and router configuration. Choose a managed plan when you need a public endpoint quickly, cannot forward ports, or prefer a control panel over command-line maintenance. In either case, the non-negotiable steps are the same: Java 17, a server archive that exactly matches the client release, adequate memory, a completed EULA, and a tested backup and recovery plan.
