Hosting a Minecraft One Block server starts with identifying which kind of One Block experience you have. A plugin-based OneBlock server runs BentoBox and its OneBlock addon on a normal server and does not require Forge or NeoForge. A modded One Block pack is a complete client-and-server modpack that requires the exact Minecraft version, modloader, Java release and server files specified by the pack. The sections below cover both setups, including self-hosted and control-panel installations.

Choose the right One Block server type
“One Block” describes a gameplay concept, not one universal download. In one version, players break a regenerating block whose contents advance through themed phases. In another, the mechanic is part of a larger modpack containing many mods, configuration files and a required modloader. Installing the wrong type of server is the most common reason a setup fails.

Plugin OneBlock server
The plugin route uses a normal Minecraft server with BentoBox and the OneBlock addon. According to the published setup sequence, you download BentoBox from SpigotMC, download the OneBlock addon, place BentoBox in the server’s plugins directory, place the addon in BentoBox’s addons directory, and restart. No Forge or NeoForge installation is needed.
This approach is appropriate when the download is described as a BentoBox addon, Bukkit/Spigot plugin, or OneBlock world template. It is not the correct method for a CurseForge or Modrinth modpack that lists NeoForge, Forge or Fabric as its loader.

Modded One Block pack
A modded pack includes a specific Minecraft release, a loader and a collection of mods. The loader is normally shown beside the Minecraft version on the pack’s CurseForge or Modrinth page. Forge mods do not run on Fabric, and NeoForge is not a drop-in replacement for Forge on versions after 1.20.1. Treat the pack’s listed loader and Minecraft version as hard requirements, not suggestions.
| Installation type | Loader requirement | What you install | Typical effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plugin OneBlock | None beyond the server software | BentoBox plus the OneBlock addon | Lower; configure addon phase files after installation |
| Modded One Block pack | The exact loader named by the pack, such as NeoForge | Server pack or complete instance, loader, mods and configuration | Higher; every client and server component must match |
Check compatibility before creating the server
Confirm Minecraft and loader versions
Write down the Minecraft version shown by the pack and the loader shown beside it. Do not infer the version from the pack title alone: similar names can exist for different releases. A client running NeoForge cannot join a server built for Fabric, and a pack built for one Minecraft release can fail even when the loader name is correct.

It is normally prepared with the files a dedicated server needs. If no server pack exists, install the normal pack in a launcher and copy the entire instance contents into a separate server directory before removing client-only components.
Use the Java release expected by the pack
The commonly published version guidance is:
| Minecraft range | Java release stated in the setup guidance | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 1.20.5 and later | Java 21 | Verify against the individual pack’s documentation |
| 1.17 through 1.20.4 | Java 17 | Verify against the individual pack’s documentation |
| Legacy packs | Java 8 | Verify against the individual pack’s documentation |
These are guidance ranges rather than a guarantee for every pack. If the pack author supplies a launcher profile, startup script or explicit Java requirement, follow that instruction instead. A wrong Java version can produce an immediate startup error before any mod is loaded.
Plan memory without over-allocating
Memory requirements depend on the number and type of mods, view distance, world activity and player count. One published example uses -Xms4G -Xmx8G; those values are an example, not a universal requirement. Leave memory for the operating system and other services, and increase the maximum only when logs or sustained performance show that the pack needs it. Setting an unnecessarily large heap can make the host less stable rather than faster.

Prepare a clean server directory
- Create a dedicated directory for this server rather than mixing files with another world or modpack.
- Keep the downloaded server pack or original instance as a backup until the new server has started successfully.
- Use a path without confusing duplicate version folders so that startup scripts and configuration files remain easy to identify.
- Have the pack’s client installation available for testing; the server and client must use compatible files.
Set up the plugin-based OneBlock server
1. Install the server software
Start with the normal server software supported by BentoBox and the OneBlock addon. Create the server directory, run the server once, and complete its initial setup. Do not add NeoForge for this route; it is a plugin installation, not a modded-loader installation.
2. Download BentoBox and the OneBlock addon
Obtain BentoBox from SpigotMC and obtain the matching OneBlock addon release. Version compatibility matters: use releases intended for the same Minecraft/server generation. If the addon documentation specifies a dependency or minimum BentoBox version, satisfy it before troubleshooting gameplay.
3. Place the files in the required directories
- Stop the server if it is running.
- Put the BentoBox plugin file in the server’s
pluginsfolder. - Start the server once so BentoBox creates its folders, then stop it again if the addon directory does not yet exist.
- Put the OneBlock addon file in BentoBox’s
addonsfolder, not directly beside the server jar. - Start the server and inspect the console for successful plugin and addon loading.
The exact folder names can vary slightly with the server implementation, but the important distinction is that BentoBox is a plugin and the OneBlock component is a BentoBox addon. Placing the addon in the ordinary plugins directory prevents it from loading.
4. Configure phases and progression
After the first successful start, BentoBox creates the OneBlock phase files. Each phase controls the block-generation pool, item weights, chest loot, spawned mobs and the number of blocks players must break before the next phase. Edit these files only while the server is stopped, keep a backup of the originals, and preserve the YAML or other configuration syntax exactly.
Make one small change at a time. Restart, create or reset a test island, and verify that the phase advances at the expected block count. A malformed configuration can stop the addon from loading, while an incorrect weight can make a desired block effectively impossible to obtain.

5. Test player access
Join with a client that matches the server’s Minecraft version and the plugin-compatible client requirements. Test island creation, block regeneration, phase advancement, chest contents and mob spawning. Also test a second player if the server is intended for groups, because permissions and island ownership can expose problems that a solo test misses.
Set up a NeoForge One Block modpack yourself
No One Block-specific NeoForge server guide was identified, so use the pack’s own files together with the standard NeoForge server process. The following sequence is the practical path when the pack explicitly lists NeoForge.
1. Obtain the correct server files
Use the pack’s dedicated server pack whenever one is offered. If there is no server pack, install the pack normally in a launcher and copy the complete instance contents into the new server directory. This preserves configuration files, datapacks and the mod list that the pack expects.
Do not assume that copying only the mods folder is sufficient. Many packs depend on configuration files, scripts, default settings or generated metadata outside that folder. Copy the instance first, then remove only files that are clearly client-only.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →2. Remove client-only mods
Shader and resource-pack mods are typical client-only examples. They have no role on a dedicated server and can cause a crash during startup. Other client-only entries are not always obvious, so removal can require checking the pack’s documentation, reading the mod’s description and testing startup one change at a time.

Keep a record of every removed file. If the server starts but clients later report a missing-mod mismatch, compare the client and server lists and restore only components that the server actually supports. Never remove gameplay, library or world-generation mods merely because their names are unfamiliar.
3. Install NeoForge as a server
- Download the NeoForge installer that matches the pack’s Minecraft and NeoForge versions.
- Run the installer and choose Install Server.
- Select the clean server directory prepared for the pack.
- Allow the installer to create its libraries, launch files and supporting folders.
- Start the generated server once. It will normally stop while it waits for you to review and accept the Minecraft EULA.
- Open the generated EULA file, change the acceptance setting as required by the EULA, save it, and start the server again.
The installer step is the authoritative part of this process; follow any version-specific options shown by the installer rather than copying a command from an unrelated release.
4. Start the server with the generated launch files
NeoForge installations commonly provide a platform-specific launch script. On Linux, use ./run.sh; on Windows, use run.bat. If you need a manual command, one published example is:
java -Xms4G -Xmx8G @libraries/net/neoforged/neoforge/*/unix_args.txt nogui
The command above is an example from setup summaries and should be checked against the files generated by your NeoForge installer. The wildcard path, argument file name and script names can differ by release or operating system. Adjust -Xms and -Xmx to the pack’s actual needs and the memory available on the machine.
5. Read the first successful startup carefully
A clean startup should progress beyond library loading and reach the normal server-ready state without a missing dependency, wrong-loader or invalid-mod error. Treat warnings about client-only mods, absent libraries, duplicate mods or failed registry entries as setup issues to resolve before inviting players.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
6. Match each player’s client
Every player should install the same pack release, Minecraft version and loader family. If you removed client-only files on the server, do not automatically remove them from clients; client-only visual mods can remain on the client when the pack supports them. Conversely, a gameplay mod present on one client but absent from the server can prevent login or create registry mismatches.

Use a hosting control panel instead
A managed panel can hide the Java installation, file placement and startup-script details, but it does not remove compatibility requirements. The published panel workflow is to search for the modpack, choose its version and select an option such as Reinstall this version. Labels differ by host, so confirm that the selected entry is the NeoForge build and the intended Minecraft release before reinstalling.
- Back up any existing world and configuration files; reinstall actions can replace them.
- Search the panel’s modpack catalog using the exact pack name.
- Select the Minecraft and NeoForge versions shown by the pack.
- Choose the panel’s reinstall or install action and wait for file deployment to finish.
- Review the generated startup command, Java version and memory allocation if the panel exposes them.
- Start once, accept the EULA through the panel’s file manager or console, then start again.
- Read the console for missing-mod and wrong-version errors before sharing access details.
Some providers publish NeoForge instructions specific to their own panel. Those instructions can be useful for button names and file locations, but the pack’s version requirements and NeoForge’s installer behavior take priority over a host’s generic template.
Troubleshoot the failures that matter most
The server exits immediately
- Wrong Java: compare the Minecraft release with the Java guidance and the pack’s documentation.
- Wrong loader: verify that the server uses NeoForge when the pack requires NeoForge, rather than Forge or Fabric.
- Unaccepted EULA: complete the EULA step after the first launch.
- Incomplete files: restore the server pack or copy the complete instance instead of only the mods folder.
A mod fails to load
Check the error for a missing dependency, incompatible Minecraft version or client-only mod. Compare the installed mod file with the pack’s exact release and remove only files confirmed to be client-only. Do not solve a dependency error by downloading a random newer version; modpacks are assembled as tested sets.
Clients cannot connect
Confirm that the client and server use the same Minecraft version, loader and gameplay-mod set. A client-side shader or interface mod is usually unrelated to server compatibility, but a content, library or world-generation mod mismatch is significant. Reinstalling the same pack version on the client is often faster than manually replacing individual files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe plugin OneBlock addon does not appear
Check that BentoBox is in plugins, the OneBlock addon is in BentoBox’s addons directory and the server was restarted after both files were copied. Review the console for a BentoBox version mismatch or malformed phase configuration. An addon placed directly in plugins will not be loaded as a BentoBox addon.
Phases behave incorrectly
Restore the last known-good phase file, then reapply one change. Verify block weights, chest-loot entries, mob definitions and the block threshold for advancement. Test on a new island so that an existing island’s saved progression does not obscure the configuration change.
Operate the server safely after installation
- Stop the server before editing mod, plugin or phase configuration files.
- Back up the world, configuration folders and the original pack before upgrades.
- Upgrade one component at a time and test on a copy of the world first.
- Keep a written record of the Minecraft version, loader version, Java version, memory flags and removed client-only mods.
- Do not mix files from different pack releases; restore the complete matching set when rolling back.
- Watch startup logs after every change and resolve errors before players create valuable progress.
A One Block server is ready for regular play only when the selected installation method matches the download, the loader and Java release match the pack, the first startup completes cleanly, and a client using the same pack can join and progress through the intended phases.
