To suppress the “New Software is available” toast for a Configuration Manager task sequence, open the task sequence’s properties and enable Suppress task sequence notifications. This hides the availability toast, but it does not remove the Software Center notification-area icon or hide the task-sequence progress window. Those are controlled separately.
Choose the setting for the interface you want to hide
| What you want to hide | Use this control | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| The “New Software is available” toast | Task-sequence property Suppress task sequence notifications | Suppresses the availability toast. The Software Center notification-area icon remains visible. The option is disabled by default. Microsoft documents the task-sequence property. |
| The task-sequence progress dialog | Deployment setting Show Task Sequence progress | Controls whether the client displays task-sequence progress. It is separate from availability-toast suppression. Microsoft documents the deployment cmdlet. |
| Progress only during part of a task sequence | Task-sequence variable TSDisableProgressUI |
Set it to true to hide progress or false to display it. You can change it more than once during the sequence. See Microsoft’s task-sequence variable reference. |
| The deployment in Software Center and all notifications | Deployment-phase UserNotification set to HideAll |
Hides the deployment in Software Center and suppresses all notifications. This is broader than hiding only the availability toast. Microsoft documents the phase setting. |
Suppress the task-sequence availability toast
- In the Configuration Manager console, go to Software Library > Operating Systems > Task Sequences.
- Open the task sequence’s properties.
- Select Suppress task sequence notifications, then apply the change.
This setting suppresses the “New Software is available” toast, not the Software Center notification-area icon. For the documented behavior and scope, see Microsoft’s Manage task sequences guidance.

Check deployment conditions if the toast still appears
Microsoft documents this suppression property for task sequences running in the full operating system. It is ignored when a task sequence starts through PXE or boot media, and it does not apply to clients communicating through a cloud management gateway (CMG). If a toast remains, confirm how the task sequence was launched and how the client communicates before treating the property as ineffective.

Hide the progress dialog separately
For the whole deployment
Change Show Task Sequence progress in the deployment’s User Experience settings. The PowerShell deployment cmdlet exposes this control as -ShowTaskSequenceProgress. This controls the process/progress dialog; it is not a replacement for Suppress task sequence notifications when the target is the availability toast. See Set-CMTaskSequenceDeployment.
#1 Best Overall
For selected steps in the sequence
Set the TSDisableProgressUI task-sequence variable to true where the progress UI should be hidden. Set it to false at the point where the UI should return. Microsoft describes the variable and its use in the task-sequence variable reference.
Set notification behavior with PowerShell
Microsoft’s Set-CMTaskSequence cmdlet documents Boolean parameters -SuppressNotification and -EnableNotification for task-sequence notification behavior. It also documents -UseDefaultText and -CustomText for choosing default or custom progress-notification text; when default text is disabled, provide custom text. Consult the Set-CMTaskSequence reference for parameter syntax and supported usage.
Rank #2
For deployment progress, use -ShowTaskSequenceProgress with Set-CMTaskSequenceDeployment. Keep that setting distinct from task-sequence notification suppression: one addresses the progress dialog, the other the availability notification.
Use HideAll only when broader suppression is intended
For a phased task-sequence deployment, the UserNotification parameter accepts DisplayAll and HideAll. Microsoft describes HideAll as hiding the deployment in Software Center and all notifications. Choose it only if you want that broader result, rather than merely suppressing the “New Software is available” toast. See Microsoft’s New-CMTaskSequenceDeployment and Set-CMTaskSequencePhase references.
