How to Hide Samsung Media Output and Change Audio Routing

Samsung’s Media output control cannot be deleted from the One UI 7 Quick panel, but you can adjust collapsed-panel media controls or select a different audio destination.

You cannot delete the fixed Media output control from the Quick panel on Samsung devices running One UI 7. You can adjust whether media controls appear when the panel is collapsed, try a setting reported for some older devices, or change where audio plays—depending on what you mean by “disable.”

First, identify what you want to disable

Samsung’s Media output control lets you manage current media playback and choose an audio destination. It is separate from Device control, which provides access to SmartThings devices and scenes. The steps depend on whether you want to hide the panel control, hide playback controls, or stop sound from going to a connected device. Samsung’s Galaxy media and device guidance explains the distinction.

  • Remove the Media output shortcut: On One UI 7, Samsung identifies it as a fixed Quick panel element that cannot be deleted.
  • Hide media controls in the collapsed panel: One UI 7 has a setting for how media controls appear; this does not remove the Media output function.
  • Change the audio destination: Select a different output in Media output. The control remains available.

One UI 7: adjust the collapsed-panel media controls

Samsung’s One UI 7 support guidance says fixed Quick panel elements—including Media output—cannot be deleted. Editing the panel or changing its layout will not remove that fixed control.

If the issue is media controls appearing when the Quick panel is collapsed, Samsung documents this route:

  1. Swipe down from the top-right of the screen to open the Quick panel.
  2. Tap Edit (the pencil icon), then Panel settings.
  3. Choose Together, then Device control and Media control buttons.
  4. Tap Show when quick panel collapsed to adjust that presentation.

This setting concerns media controls in the collapsed panel; Samsung does not describe it as a way to uninstall Media output or delete its Quick panel control.

Older Galaxy software: check the available panel and notification options

Menu names and features vary by model and software version. Samsung’s general Galaxy guidance explains that Media output appears among Quick settings icons and is used to select an audio device. On some versions, tap a button’s text or touch and hold it to open detailed settings; use Edit to edit available buttons. These controls do not guarantee that Media output can be removed.

A community-reported setting to try

A Samsung Members Community moderator suggested this route for some devices: Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Device control & Media output, then set Media output to None. The moderator also suggested opening Quick Panel > three-dot menu > Quick Panel layout and switching between Combined and Separate views.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is a community troubleshooting suggestion, not a universal Samsung-documented fix. The setting may not exist on your model or software version, and a user in the same thread later reported that the problem persisted. See the Samsung Members Community discussion for the original report.

Change where sound plays

If your goal is to stop audio from playing through a connected device, open Media output in the Quick panel and select the destination you want, such as the phone or a connected pair of Galaxy Buds. Samsung says that when multiple devices are connected, you can select more than one for Dual audio. This changes audio routing; it does not remove the Media output control. Available options depend on the devices connected.

When a setting or button is missing

  • Check your phone’s One UI version: Samsung’s One UI 7 guidance specifically treats Media output as a fixed element.
  • Look for the exact setting on your device rather than assuming a path from another Galaxy model will match; Samsung notes that screens and menus can vary by model and software version.
  • Decide whether the problem is the fixed shortcut, a collapsed-panel playback control, or the selected audio destination. Each requires a different adjustment.
