If you mean the volume popup that appears briefly after you press a volume key, Windows 11 25H2 has no documented built-in setting to hide it. You can move it instead. The taskbar’s volume icon is a different control and can be hidden on supported Windows editions, but that does not remove the popup.
First, identify which volume control you mean
- Volume indicator (OSD, popup, or flyout): Appears on screen briefly when you change the volume with a keyboard key or device control.
- System-tray volume icon: The speaker control in the taskbar’s notification area.
Windows has separate controls for these elements. Hiding the tray icon does not hide the on-screen indicator.

Move the on-screen volume indicator
Windows 11 25H2 coverage reports a setting for changing where hardware indicators appear, including the volume indicator. To find it, open Settings > System > Notifications > Position of on-screen indicators. The reported placements are:
- Bottom center
- Top left
- Top center
This changes the indicator’s position; it is not a hide option. The placement setting is also reported for Windows 11 24H2. Windows Central’s coverage of the setting describes repositioning, not suppression.

Hide the system-tray volume icon instead
If you meant the taskbar icon, Microsoft documents the HideSCAVolume policy for Windows 11 version 21H2 and later, including 25H2, on Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions. The policy removes the volume control icon from the system notification area; it does not establish that the on-screen indicator will disappear.
Use Group Policy
- Open the Local Group Policy Editor.
- Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
- Open Remove the volume control icon and set it to Enabled.
Microsoft documents the policy’s scope and effect in its Experience policy reference and taskbar policy settings. This route is for supported editions; it is not an OSD fix.

Use Quick Settings to access volume controls
After hiding the tray icon, you can still reach volume controls through Quick Settings. Microsoft describes Quick Settings as a place to access system controls, including volume. It does not document Quick Settings as a way to suppress the volume indicator. See Microsoft’s Windows 11 taskbar guide.

Microsoft’s 25H2 Group Policy reference confirms that policy documentation exists, but it does not establish a policy for hiding the volume OSD: Windows 11 25H2 policy reference. A PowerToys request for a hide-volume-OSD feature was closed as not planned; that does not prove that every outside utility fails, but the available sources do not establish a current, tested third-party solution.
