To hide message previews on a Samsung phone, change the lock-screen notification content setting. In One UI 8, go to Settings > Notifications > Hide content while locked and choose Hide when locked. To hide previews for just one messaging app, use its app notification settings instead. One UI 7 uses a different menu path.
Choose whether to hide previews or all lock-screen alerts
- Hide message text but keep the alert: Choose Hide content or Hide when locked. The notification can remain visible while its details are concealed.
- Hide previews from one app: Use the app-specific lock-screen content control, available in Samsung’s One UI 8 instructions.
- Change how notifications appear across apps: Samsung’s US support page describes choosing a notification display type under Settings > Notifications > Lock screen.
- Remove all lock-screen notifications: This is different from hiding their content. The available controls and exact steps can vary by software version; check the lock-screen notification settings on your device.

Hide message content in One UI 8
Hide previews from all apps
- Open Settings and tap Notifications.
- Tap Hide content while locked.
- Select Hide when locked. Choose Show always only if you want notification content to remain visible on the lock screen.
Hide previews from one messaging app
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the messaging app.
- Tap Show or hide content when locked.
- Select Hide when locked.

Hide message content in One UI 7
- Open Settings > Notifications > Lock Screen Notifications.
- Choose Hide content.

If the setting is missing or a preview still appears
- The menu path does not match: Menu names and locations may differ by model and software version. Search Settings for “lock screen” or “hide content,” or check which One UI version the phone is running.
- Only one app still shows message details: Check that app’s notification settings. In One UI 8, the app-specific control is under Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- You want no notifications on the lock screen: Hiding content conceals details; it does not necessarily turn off the alert. Look for a lock-screen notification display control in Settings. The exact disable-all steps are not established consistently for every version.
