To get bees into a crafted beehive in Minecraft, guide nearby bees to it with a flower or a lead, or move their occupied bee nest with a Silk Touch tool. For a long move, relocating the nest at night is usually the safer option: the bees can stay inside the block while you carry it.
Choose how to move the bees

Guide bees to the crafted beehive
Use a flower
- Find bees near a natural bee nest and make sure a crafted beehive is placed at the destination.
- Hold a flower and walk toward the hive. Bees follow a player holding a flower, according to Minecraft’s official Bee article.
- Leave flowers around the destination so the bees have a reason to remain in the area.
Use a lead
You can attach a lead to a bee and guide it to the hive. The Minecraft Wiki says this works even when bees are angered. Minecraft Wiki: Bee.
Move an occupied bee nest with Silk Touch
- Wait until the bees have returned to their nest. Night is a practical time; rain is another time bees may return indoors.
- Break the occupied nest using a tool enchanted with Silk Touch.
- Place the nest near the crafted beehive. Bees stored inside the nest can leave once it is placed again.
Minecraft’s official guidance recommends relocating a nest at night with a Silk Touch tool. Minecraft’s Bee article. This carries the occupied nest rather than transferring its bees directly into the crafted hive.

Keep the move safe
- Do not break an occupied nest without Silk Touch. Its bees will be released and can become angry. Silk Touch is what lets you carry the occupied block intact. Minecraft Wiki: Bee.
- Use campfire smoke to calm bees during interaction. Place a campfire underneath a nest or hive. Smoke can help make handling safer, but it does not replace Silk Touch when you want to transport an occupied block intact. Minecraft’s Bee article; Minecraft snapshot 19w34a notes.
Where to look for bee nests
