Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Use Presenter View if you need private notes and a next-slide preview; rehearse aloud and test any captions, media, or remote controls before the talk begins.
Prepare the presentation and display
- Open and check the deck. Confirm the file opens on the device you will present from. Play any embedded audio or video and verify that fonts, animations, and transitions appear as intended.
- Set up the room or meeting. Connect the projector or external monitor, or open the meeting and identify the correct screen or window to share. If using an external display, check which screen shows the audience slides before you begin speaking.
- Start the slide show. In PowerPoint, use the Slide Show controls to start from the beginning or from the current slide. Microsoft’s Present your slide show guidance covers the presenting flow; exact controls can vary by platform and version.
Choose how to control the slides
Use Presenter View when you have a second display
Presenter View can show the current slide, a preview of the next slide, speaker notes, and timing on your presenter display while the audience sees only the slide show. Select the intended monitor in the slide show setup, then confirm the audience display is showing the correct view. See Microsoft’s Use Presenter View in PowerPoint instructions.

If Presenter View opens on the wrong screen or a second display is unavailable, do not assume your notes are private. Pause, verify what the audience can see, and switch to the slide show on the intended display. Keep a manual fallback: present from the single screen without notes, or use printed notes if appropriate.

Advance manually or use saved timings
For a live talk, manual advancement gives you control to adapt to questions and audience pace. PowerPoint also supports recording timings for individual slides with Rehearse Timings. If you do not want slides to advance automatically, set the show to manual advancement in Set Up Slide Show. Microsoft explains both rehearsal and timing options in Rehearse and time the delivery of a presentation.

- 【PORTABLE SLIDE CLICKER】This presentation pointer includes a convenient clip that attaches to a notebook or pocket for easy carrying. It is a helpful tool for meetings, classrooms, training sessions, and presentations, and it is also suitable for sharing with colleagues and friends
Learn the controls and test any remote
Before the event, practice moving to the next and previous slide and ending the show on the keyboard or device you will actually use. A wireless presentation remote is optional; compatibility and range depend on the device and room, so test it in the real setup. Microsoft’s presenting guide covers slide navigation but does not endorse a particular remote.
Rehearse for timing and delivery
- Run the full talk aloud. Rehearse with the actual transitions, media, and pauses. Time the whole presentation, including the opening and audience questions if they are part of your allotted time.
- Use Rehearse Timings if useful. The feature records per-slide and overall timing, helping you spot sections that run long. Timings need not control the live show: choose manual advancement in Set Up Slide Show when you want to retain control.
- Consider Speaker Coach as a prompt. Speaker Coach can offer automated rehearsal feedback about pacing, filler words, wordiness, inclusive language, and reading text from slides. Use suggestions to review your delivery, not as a substitute for your own judgment. Availability may depend on platform, version, or account. Details are in Microsoft’s Speaker Coach guidance.
Make the talk accessible
Captions and subtitles
PowerPoint supports live automatic captions or subtitles. Check the feature and language options on the platform and version you will use, and test them before the talk. Automatic transcription is not guaranteed to be perfect, so do not rely on it as the only way attendees can follow important information. Microsoft documents the feature in Present with real-time, automatic captions or subtitles in PowerPoint.

Screen readers and an independent way to follow
Microsoft documents screen-reader support for presenting, with details that can vary by platform and version. If attendees need screen-reader access or want to follow along independently, provide an accessible copy or another suitable way to access the material where possible. See Use a screen reader to show your presentation with PowerPoint and Microsoft’s video on presenting inclusively.
For a remote or hybrid presentation
Confirm what your audience will see by checking the selected share source and, if possible, asking a participant or colleague to verify it. Keep private notes and unrelated desktop content off the shared display. Microsoft’s Present Live support page says Present Live in PowerPoint for the web is deprecated and directs remote presenters to PowerPoint Live in Teams. Organization access and interface options can vary, so confirm current availability before telling participants how to join. See Present Live: Engage your audience with Live Presentations.
