The fix depends on how the channels reach your TV. If they come through an antenna or a cable plugged straight into the TV, check the cable and run the TV’s channel scan. If they come from a cable or satellite box, select the input that box uses. If they come from an app, reopen that app and check the TV’s live-channel guide. Menu names vary by brand, model and software version.
Step 1: Work out where your channels come from
A channel scan only helps channels that the TV’s own tuner receives. Find the row below that matches your setup:

Antenna or cable straight into the TV
Check the connection
Make sure the coax cable is firmly seated at the TV and at the antenna or wall outlet. A loose connector is a common reason channels vanish.
Run the automatic channel search
Look for Auto Tuning, Auto Channel or Auto Program in the TV’s channel settings. On LG sets running webOS 6.0 or later, LG’s support instructions give this path: All Settings → General → Channels → Channel Tuning → Auto Tuning → Start. Older LG software and other brands use different paths, so check your model’s manual if you can’t find it.

Why channels disappear in the first place
LG lists three possible causes: the channels were deleted from the TV’s list, a broadcast frequency changed, or the cable broadcaster reorganized its channels. A fresh scan fixes all three, provided the signal is actually reaching the TV.
If the scan finds nothing
LG’s support page says: “If the symptom persists even after completing the automatic channel search, it is likely that the broadcast signal is not being received.” Recheck the antenna or coax connection and confirm the TV is set to the right source for your installation. Then ask your cable provider, or your building management if you’re in an apartment or shared property, whether service or signal has changed.

Cable or satellite box
Don’t run a tuner scan. LG’s guidance says viewers who use a set-top box don’t need Auto Tuning, and it should not restore the box’s service anyway.
- Turn the box on.
- Press the TV remote’s Input or Source button.
- Choose the port the box is plugged into, such as HDMI 1.
- If the picture appears but channels are missing, contact the cable or satellite provider. LG directs set-top-box users to the provider for help.
App-delivered channels
Reinstall or reopen the provider app
Google’s Android TV help says watching live TV from a particular provider may require downloading that provider’s app. Confirm the app is installed and that you’re signed in.

Check the live-channel list
On Android TV, the Live Channels instructions let you choose a source and customize which channels show in the program guide. If channels seem gone, check that the source is added and that the channels haven’t been hidden from your customized list.
Free live channels on Google TV
In the US, Google TV offers some live channels without installing an app, signing up or subscribing. It also carries channels from apps such as Haystack News, Plex, Pluto TV and Tubi. What you see depends on your location and provider.
Do you need an antenna?
Only if you want over-the-air local broadcasts. LG’s antenna guide says to connect the antenna to the TV’s antenna input and then run Auto Tuning. An antenna won’t bring back app channels or set-top-box service, so don’t buy one to fix those.
