You can add the shared “I’m Getting Pulled Over” shortcut through the iPhone’s Shortcuts app, skip its setup wizard, and then choose the trusted contact who should receive alerts. The current walkthrough that documents this process was tested on an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 26.3.1, but that single test does not guarantee identical behavior on every iPhone or iOS version.
What the shortcut is supposed to do
According to Rhett Intriago’s April 1, 2026 walkthrough for iPhone Life, the documented copy dims the screen, lowers media volume, sends your current location to a configured contact, and starts front-camera video. When recording stops, the walkthrough says the video is uploaded to iCloud and a copy is sent to that contact.

Those actions describe that particular shared copy, not a universal Apple feature. A shortcut shared through iCloud can be edited or replaced, and independently shared copies may behave differently. Apple does not certify privately shared shortcuts.

Before you add it
- Have the Shortcuts app installed on your iPhone and be signed in to the Apple account you use for iCloud.
- Choose a trusted recipient and tell them you are setting up an emergency-style alert.
- Inspect the shortcut’s action list before running it. Look for actions that access location, Messages, Camera, iCloud Drive or other data.
- Check the recording and privacy rules that apply where you live. This setup guide is not legal advice, and the sources do not establish one recording rule for every state or country.
How to add and configure the shortcut
- Open the shared iCloud shortcut link on your iPhone. Review the shortcut’s name and visible actions before adding it.
- Tap “Set Up Shortcut.”
- Tap “Skip Setup.” The current iPhone Life walkthrough recommends skipping the setup wizard because it reports bugs in that flow.
- Open Shortcuts and select the Library tab. Find the shortcut you just added.
- Open its details. Tap the shortcut’s three-dot button to enter the editor and details view.
- Scroll to “Recipients.” Add the trusted contact who should receive the location and recording messages, then confirm the selection.
- Add additional recipients if needed. Return to the Recipients section and repeat the add-and-confirm step for each person.
- Approve requested access. If iOS asks for Location, Messages or another permission, tap Allow only when that access matches the actions you inspected and want the shortcut to perform.
- Run a controlled test. Tap the play button while parked or at home, and warn the recipient first. A test can send an alarming message and may share your location or create a recording.
How to trigger it during an actual stop
Use Siri
Say “Hey Siri, I’m getting pulled over.” Apple documents Siri as a way to run shortcuts, and this is the voice phrase used by the current walkthrough. Siri must be available and recognize the phrase on your device; the sources do not guarantee recognition in every configuration.

Tap the shortcut in Shortcuts
Open Shortcuts and tap the shortcut directly. Apple also documents tapping a shortcut as a launch method. This is the in-app fallback if you prefer not to rely on voice recognition, but the sources do not establish that either method is universally more reliable during a traffic stop.

What permissions mean and how to change them
Shortcuts requests access when an action needs data. To review or remove access later, open the shortcut’s details, tap Privacy, and turn off individual permissions such as Location or Safari. Apple also provides Reset Privacy in that area to clear the shortcut’s granted access and require permission requests again.

Apple’s privacy guidance warns: “Apple cannot verify the authenticity or behaviour of shortcuts shared privately. Always verify shortcuts you receive from contacts.” Apple also says shortcuts downloaded from the web or shared by others may not have been reviewed by Apple, and that it has no control over or responsibility for their content or functionality.

Important limits to understand
- The iPhone Life report names an iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 26.3.1 as its test configuration. It is not a compatibility guarantee for every model or software release.
- The documented workflow is not proof that recording, upload or message delivery will succeed if the phone is interrupted, locked, out of storage or without a usable network connection.
- The sources do not establish how the shortcut behaves when the camera is already in use, the phone is restarting, an automation is blocked, or iCloud cannot upload.
- Sending a recording or location may expose sensitive information. Configure only people you trust and remove recipients who should no longer receive alerts.
When to remove or stop using it
Delete the shortcut if its actions no longer match what you expect, if its permissions are broader than necessary, or if a later update changes its behavior. You can first use Details > Privacy to revoke access, then remove the shortcut from your Library. Keep an alternative that does not require handling the phone, such as contacting emergency services when appropriate, rather than treating this shared shortcut as a guaranteed safety system.
